Dorking Wanderers H 13th Nov

I've just listened to Marc White's interview as well, and for an opposing manager to give the team that has just defeated his such praise I think is worthy of acknowledgement.

Especially so soon after the final whistle has gone, when disappointment is at its height, so fair play to the guy.

I assume the decision to have the players name on the back of their shirts is his too, but that is something that I feel is out of place at our level.

"Delusions of grandeur" to me, that's my opinion anyway.

At least Dorking's left back, a Mr B. Taylor, took the mickey taking about him having his name on the back of his shirt in a great spirit.

Was nice to see an opposing player smile and laugh at things the fans said to him, rather than scowl or bite back.

Unfortunately Mr B. Taylor's namesake, number 17 Mr. J. Taylor, was not as pleasant a character.

How can his tackle on Guy in the second half be judged the same level of infringement of the rules as Josh's and Matty's yellow cards for time wasting ?

Some player other than Guy might have shrieked out in "pain" and done numerous roll overs on the pitch, in the manner of that Dorking player in the first half when Aaron got his booking.

I think Marc White said in his interview that this J. Taylor had now an injury, well no sympathy for him  in my eyes.

Another great, unexpected 3 pts.

I thought Lenchy had his best game this season by far.

A great probing run that got us the penalty, then great craft and graft from George and Matty to win us the corner that led to the second goal.

We don't score many goals like that do we, direct from corners?

The last I can remember was that Ben Harris blockbuster from the edge of the area away at Dorking ( again) a couple of years ago, when we won 5-3.

Another blockbusting header, this time from Freddie.

Well done Freddie, four goals already this season from a full back.

( I have to say I enjoy Freddie's enthusiasm when he acknowledges the supporters at the end of the match. )

I just wish Lenchy had scored from that good chance he had near the end.

It would have topped a great display from him, and also saved us from having to watch the last few minutes of the match through the fingers covering our eyes!

Seeing how petty the ref was in my opinion, I'm very surprised that he didn't ask for the penalty to be re-taken, as I thought 2 or 3 Slough players were well inside the penalty area when Aaron struck the ball.

( I'd like to see the highlights to see if my memory of the incident is as I think I remember it. )

All in all a tremendous win, which all the players worked damn hard to achieve.

P.S.  Are we printing fewer match programmes than previously?

Not for the first time this season I didn't get one yesterday as they had sold out, but thankfully and gratefully I've managed to bag one by other means.

True but some of it was a bit disparaging - "only way they were going to beat us", obviously they're a richer team than us, but we did play football too.

Sorry RB, do you mean some of the singing/chanting was a bit disparaging?

Of course we played some football but imo for us to get points off teams like Dorking, Havant, Maidstone etc our work rate and teamwork has to be at a very high level.

I'm disappointed with your post HR.

You haven't started your monologue with 'Morning all' ?

And just for John, another fine post HR  ?

I meant Marc White's compliments were a bit back-handed. No criticism of the singing at all - it was great. Of course our work rates and teamwork are great and that's part fo what makes a Bakes and Unders team but we also played good football at times and he suggested we didn't. For example he dismissed both our goals as their mistakes whereas Lenchy had gone on a particularly penetrating run which they were struggling to deal with - hence the penalty and Freddie was unmarked because of a great late run and an excellent corner.

I don't think many managers or supporters give the oppo the praise they sometimes deserve, they tend to concentrate on their own failings rather than praise the opposition for their good play.

Like our managers tend to do I think you've got to try to be honest, which must be difficult especially straight after a game, in appraisal of the opposition as well as your own sides poor play.

As HR has said I think you've got to give Marc White some praise for some of his comments on us straight after a defeat.

Is that the one where the Dorking player went down clutching his leg as if he'd been shot whilst Guy just got up.

If so it's possibly the reason why he got away with just a yellow card.

Refs are too easily conned.

Nothing to add to what's been said, except that in the interview with Marc White there was a mention about the state of the pitch! I'm no expert on the 3G technology but it seemed to play fine to me. We are into it's 5th year of use so it's possible it's past its best and is in need of replacing. Anyone with any thoughts?

I think the toughest decision of the afternoon must have been the MoM award as I'd say every player to a man had a shout for it.

I'd like to pick out 2 players I've been critical of in the season so far - Jonathon North and Matt Lench.

North - I thought he was excellent yesterday. Far better decision making than at any point in the season, made a couple of excellent 1 on 1 saves and was also far more vocal than before. Credit where its due and long may it continue.

Lench - I agree with 1 or 2 previously in that I thought that was his best game of the season by a mile. Ran his socks off, tackled well, the run to win the penalty was as direct as I've seen him this year and the corner for Freddie Grant was as good of a delivery as you could get. Hopefully he can keep repeating those performances, especially the covering for Jackman and Davies and taking that responsibility seriously.

On Neil and Jon, I don't remember ever (or rarely) seeing them as animated or loud as they were yesterday and it seemed the boys responded very well to the directions given.

All in all an excellent, hardworking team effort where every player had a good to excellent game what more can you ask for as a fan. Well done to everyone.

Marc White seems a bit of an enigma but actually a pretty decent guy. During his post match interview I don't think he was trying to make any excuses speaking about injuries etc, I think he just made observations about his side. In addition, its not like he needs to worry about excusing the result to a board of directors is it?.

LOL, I remember looking over from the opposite side a few times at them and they were both "resting" on the barrier!

Would also love to know what Marc White was chatting about to our players on the pitch waiting for his team to reappear after half time...

I didn't hear his reference to the pitch so I must have another listen.

On 3G pitches I thought they had a life span around the 10 year mark but could be wrong.

I think he's definitely marmite.

He doesn't pull any punches but then as you say why should he when he runs the whole shebang.

The guy interviewing him asked him about the surface and he gave a very tongue in cheek response as if he was playing away at prime Burnham at the height of their pitch issues. It was all a joke.

Just listened again and still cannot hear any mention of the pitch.

At what time on the recording is it mentioned.
