Holyport Rebel
Have to say that I'm a bit surprised that I don't think I've seen any reference anywhere on our sites to Jonathan and Josh being named in The Non-League papers "Team of the Day", and Bakes' and Unders' also being named "Top Boss's" for this team after the weekend's game v. Maidstone. Congrats !

Reading Rebel
On 07/11/2021 at 10:49, Holyport Rebel said: Morning all. What a great weekend. Another unexpected away win at a "big" club and the first new ABBA album in forty odd years released too ! Life doesn't get much better than this. ( Well, not for me it doesn't.) ( How am I able to listen to all the new songs on the album for free on Youtube, without having to buy the album ? Doesn't make sense to me. Hey ho.) Sorry, I digress. I was in the Maidstone clubhouse before the game, and a group of Maidstone fans saw my Slough scarf and started talking to me. Very friendly and level headed they were too. They proceeded to tell me, not in a bragging way or anything like that, about their defender who had played for Wolves in the Premier League, about their new goalkeeper who they thought had come from Millwall, and several other players they had who had impressive footballing C.V's. They spoke about the bad run of results Maidstone were on, that their manager was under pressure to get better results which a club with their resources should be achieving and that a bad result today would really get their fans on his back. Hearing these Maidstone fans talk about the strengths their team had, I repeat again not in a bragging way but a realistic matter of fact way, made me think that our chances of getting a good result were diminishing by the minute. They asked me what our strengths were. I replied by saying that we had a couple of respected, honest managers, who expect their team to give 100% each game, and that when you do that you will always have a chance. I said I'd be extremely delighted with a point though ! With 30 minutes to go of the match I was still thinking I'd be delighted with a point ! I thought Wazza was superb when he came on. If he is now fit to play the full 90 minutes he surely must be in the team. Great header, great cross from Eitel. But then there is a problem. After yesterday's performance I don't think you can drop either Aaron or Scott or George or Matty. And I much prefer seeing two out and out strikers up front. Thank God I'm not a manager. I think Ben would have loved playing in a match like yesterday's. A good crowd, with big, strong aggressive defenders to wind up. I also think Alfonso and Joe would have learned a lot from yesterday's game. Blimey, I think Maidstone's number 2 only let go of Joe's shirt when the half-time whistle went ! I think Jonathan and Freddie are really starting to "blend" into the team, which is great to see. As I heard Geoff say on the coach after the game........... "If you had said a few weeks ago that we would have gone away to Havant and Maidstone and come away from both games with victories, the men in white coats would have come to take you away. " Right, I'm off now to listen again to those new ABBA songs. How does that old ABBA song go............................? "THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On your point about Wazza. He hasn't played a lot of football since his return from injury so for me we've got to be very careful before he's unleashed for a full 90 minutes. At the moment we are playing well so there is no rush. The last thing we want is for him to have a set back.
