V Maidstone A 6th November

At the start of season Maidstone were one of the much fancied teams and did well initially but they haven't scored a home league goal  since the 11th September and their last 3 home league games have resulted in 2 losses and a draw and no home goals scored in these matches either Considering our recent improvement I'm sure the team will be expecting point(s) from this one.

You are not quite right there IA. The home draw was 2-2 against Concord Rangers followed by 0-2 defeats to Eastbourne Borough and Dorking Wanderers.

Away they won 0-3 at Bath City, drew 0-0 at Dulwich Hamlet and lost 3-2 at Hungerford Town last Saturday in a pulsating match.

I was referring only to their home performances  and thank you for confirming their last home league goal was on 11th Sept. Of course previous performances matter  They're  the reason Maidstone have been losing league position in recent weeks and of course the reason we are beginning to progress up the table to an acceptable position for a club like ours.

Of course they matter but only as far as points gained.

Let’s hope so ?

Yes excellent win  but surely not unexpected due to our recent considerable improvement I said a few weeks ago that our problem wasn't a lack of skilled talented players but the time  needed to get them gelling with teammates and understanding what Neil/Jon required of them

On our day we can take on the perceived best with confidence and of course we'll  have some unexpected setbacks but the days when people spoke of a relegation battle I think are gone as far as this season is concerned.

Our recent much better results will improve our revenue stream  People want to support a winning team that plays attractive football something Neil/Jon usually turn out Maidstone were 2nd for a number of weeks Their attendances were 500 more in those weeks  Im sure our gates will go up in line with our improved performances.

Excellent win for the Rebels against the MIGHTY MAIDSTONE!!!!!!!!

Well done to all.

The only mystery to clear up is the absence of Ben Harris from the squad.

RR the only mystery from today was were you shopping again???

Superb day out.                        On Tour with the Rebels.

A real team performance again Scott Davis what a great game so pleased for Eitel and Wazza back on the pitch super subs making an instant impact on the game. Maidstone have a superb stadium and supporters  allowed in the club house this time.

Even though we lost at Billercay that was the start of our turn around this season.

I left home on my scooter at 6.30 am to meet my friend Atma at his house in Hounslow. I lived in Maidstone from 1956 to 1959 but Atma had never been there.

We travelled Hounslow West - Hammersmith - Victoria - Bromley South - Maidstone East where we arrived at 10.00 am. Atma was very impressed with the countryside and was surprised how hilly Kent was. I mentioned the North Downs to him!!! Atma has a particular interest in history and the environment.

Our walking tour of Maidstone covered my trainspotting haunts in steam days at the three stations East, Barracks and West; The Archbishop's Palace; All Saints Church in which I was in the choir from 1957 to 1959; the Carriage Museum; where the bus station was in the 1950s and what it was like and where it is now; the house I lived in; Mote Park; Maidstone cricket and rugby union grounds; the River Len Walk; Maidstone High Street; St Faith's Church and Gardens and frequent references to all that had changed since I lived in Maidstone before finishing our walk at the Gallagher Stadium.

On our return journey, the Venice Simplon Orient Express had just arrived in platform 2 of Victoria station behind Merchant Navy Class 35028 "Clan Line".

Upon our return to his house in Hounslow, I asked Atma two questions :-

Q How many out of 10 for today? A : 10

Q : What was the champagne moment of the day? A : The Warren Harris goal after 77 minutes.

I returned home on my scooter at 9.30 pm.

Morning all.

What a great weekend.

Another unexpected away win at a "big" club and the first new ABBA album in forty odd years released too !

Life doesn't get much better than this. ( Well, not for me it doesn't.)

( How am I able to listen to all the new songs on the album for free on Youtube, without having to buy the album ? Doesn't make sense to me. Hey ho.)

Sorry, I digress.

I was in the Maidstone clubhouse before the game, and a group of Maidstone fans saw my Slough scarf and started talking to me.

Very friendly and level headed they were too.

They proceeded to tell me, not in a bragging way or anything like that, about their defender who had played for Wolves in the Premier League, about their new goalkeeper who they thought had come from Millwall, and

several other players they had who had impressive footballing C.V's.

They spoke about the bad run of results Maidstone were on, that their manager was under pressure to get better results which a club with their resources should be achieving  and that a bad result today would really get their fans on his back.

Hearing these Maidstone fans talk about the strengths their team had, I repeat again not in a bragging way but a realistic matter of fact way, made me think that our chances of getting a good result were diminishing by the minute.

They asked me what our strengths were.

I replied by saying that we had a couple of respected, honest managers, who expect their team to give 100% each game, and that when you do that you will always have a chance.

I said I'd be  extremely delighted with a point though !

With 30 minutes to go of the match I was still thinking I'd be delighted with a point !

I thought Wazza was superb when he came on. If he is now fit to play the full 90 minutes he surely must be in the team.

Great header, great cross from Eitel.

But then there is a problem. After yesterday's performance I don't think you can drop either Aaron or Scott or George or Matty.

And I much prefer seeing two out and out strikers up front.

Thank God I'm not a manager.

I think Ben would have loved playing in a match like yesterday's. A good crowd, with big, strong aggressive defenders to wind up.

I also think Alfonso and Joe would have learned a lot from yesterday's game.

Blimey, I think Maidstone's number 2 only let go of Joe's shirt when the half-time whistle went !

I think Jonathan and Freddie are really starting to "blend" into the team, which is great to see.

As I heard Geoff say on the coach after the game...........

"If you had said a few weeks ago that we would have gone away to Havant and Maidstone and come away from both games with victories, the men in white coats would have come to take you away. "

Right, I'm off now to listen again to those new ABBA songs.

How does that old ABBA song go............................?

"THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I just say sorry to Geoff for quoting something in my previous post that I heard him say to somebody else on the coach?

Although I found it amusing and totally accurate, I'm a bit concerned now that fellow fans might think that I might post things on here that I hear second hand and name the person responsible.

I won't do that again.

Sorry again Geoff.

It was a lovely line though.

HR, personally I saw nothing wrong with your quote from Geoff, it was nothing incriminating and I'm sure most supporters would have said the same as Geoff.
