v Concord

I must be the only supporter on this forum who was at the game today, either that or it's purely down to apathy.

On the game today:

Decent first half and deservedly went in at half time 1-0 up.

Not sure what happened at half time but it wasn't the same team that played in the first half.

Concord came out and stamped their authority on the game, won most of the second balls and any 50/50's that were there to be won.

I can only remember one decent second half chance which fell to Alphonso who put it over the bar, that apart I don't think their keeper had a shot to save.

Not sure what to put it down to, possibly tiredness with virtually the same starting 11, either way Concord got their just reward with a dominant second half performance.

Perhaps 'dominant' is a bit over the top but imo they were still the better side in the second half.

Not sure we saw the same game RR. Thought we were generally the better side throughout and whilst they did have some moments second half I don’t remember them being any better  than us. Thought our midfield 3 was excellent again all game and lenchy looked a lot better today than in previous games. Sucker punch to end that I don’t believe we deserved. Frustrating thing is it started from them winning the ball back from our free kick where Jackman was forced to take it with concord defenders no more than 5 yards away but the ref didn’t care. Great week all in all!!!

Gutted to concede so late today, feels like a defeat initially.

I thought we completely dominated the first half, second half was fairly even and felt we needed the second goal. They looked toothless up front though until the 9 came on.

For us, George Hunt looks more comfortable by the game and I think he’s going to be huge for us this year. Togs and Guy are a good partnership and looked solid. Need to also mention the non-league Pirlo, Scott Davies is really making that position his own. This is probably the best run in the team he’s had and the range of passing from there and the chances he creates is great to watch. Reads the game well too and is getting in good defensive positions.

Overall, 7 points from 9 is promotion form ?, let’s keep going.

Yes, I think we must of seen different games Radders.

As I said first half I though we played well and could possibly have deserved to have been 2-0 up but second half I thought Concord must have changed formation/tactics or something because from being second best they started winning challenges and second balls all over the pitch and looking much more dangerous.

Agree that if we were offered seven points from a possible nine 3 games ago I think most supporters would have bitten their arm off.

Hard to be annoyed at dropping 2 points after 2 excellent wins, but it’s still so frustrating!!! Hopefully we can extend our unbeaten run although our next 2 are very tough but if we can play to the same levels then there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be confident going into these matches. I wonder if with our recent form the urgency to sign a new centre back and striker especially (witu Tenconi’s form) has now slowed? I really hope not because if we’re able to sign 2 quality experienced players who are better than we have then that would give us a massive boost and help keep us on the unbeaten run.

Did anyone catch the attendance yesterday?

Morning all.

Isn't it strange how people can go to the same game, and come away with such differing views?

A couple of people on here have given contrasting reactions to yesterday's 90 minutes, and my feelings differ to both of them.

I walked out of  Arbour Park after the game seething that a "horrible" team like Concord Rangers came away with a point.

I normally admire teams such as Concord, who have punched above their weight for many years now,  but when they have in their ranks individuals who behave in the manner that they did yesterday,

that admiration goes out the window.

Unfortunately, we seem to regularly now get officials who don't seem up to the job, but to hear the constant, loud complaining and whining from many Concord players and management whenever a decision went against them, even when it was obviously the correct decision, was nauseating.

I know all clubs do this to an extent, but Concord I felt excelled at this.

Especially their number 3 and number 7.

When their career's at Concord come to an end they could always go down a level or two and join Mark Bartley at Marlow.

I think they would fit in perfectly there.

Perhaps some on here might regard their actions as being "ultra professional", or "showing a will to win".

I thought it was overstepping the mark, and I would not like to see a Slough Town player behaving like that.

Were there words exchanged between the Concord bench and Slough fans in the second half ?

As we were kicking the other way to what we normally do in the second half, Slough fans were gathered around the Concord dugout, and from my view from the opposite side of the pitch it did look that at times

words were being exchanged, though I could of course be mistaken about this.

I thought I saw at the final whistle though, 3 anorak wearing members of the Concord dugout ( I don't know if they were management or playing staff), standing up and turning to the Slough fans behind the goal.

with their arms outstretched and fists clenched, giving a message which seemed obvious to me to be saying.......

"Stuff You".

Very classy.

That's how I read it anyway.

In the immortal words of Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers, when we go to their dump of a ground in March, I hope we give them a "damn good thrashing!".

On a more positive note, can I just say how much I am enjoying "A Rebel in Brighton" articles in the programme.

It must be difficult for regular contributors such as Warren and "Legend of Pegasus" to come up with something new to talk about in each programme, but they are doing a great job.

Thanks for your views HR.

On the subject of players and management constantly complaining and whining.

There are players and managers at all levels of football that do this, I think partly because it's in their nature and partly I'm sure because they are seeking to gain an advantage from the weaker refs and linos who will eventually allow themselves to be influenced i.e. if you constantly complain eventually you'll get a decision that will go in your favour.

It's a bit like what happened in an incident in the game yesterday, players surrounding the ref when a foul is committed, their ultimate aim is to influence the ref to get the offending player booked or hopefully sent off.

I'm sure the FA brought in a rule that stated only the captain could approach the ref but that rule seems to have disappeared hence you constantly see refs putting up with being surrounded and harassed by players.

On the subject of our programme, I agree that Warren's articles are a great read.

On the other articles 'Legend of Pegasus' etc I would love to know who actually writes these articles because they don't have any names attached to them in the programme.

Finally you say there have been differing views on yesterday's game and your views differ but you haven't actually given your view of yesterday's game.

Thanks for highlighting that comment from Concord Rangers Steve D.

It is nice to see it, but my earlier comments were based on what I saw at the game.

I didn't say it was all of them that was behaving I thought in an unsporting manner, but those that did gave in my eyes a very bad reflection on the club as a whole.

Ah well, as I previously said, everyone can have a different opinion of the  90 minutes, and that was my overriding feeling from yesterday's match.

As for the actual match itself Reading Rebel, I thought it was a very scrappy match, with not much flowing football at all.

We had the better of the first half, they had the better I thought of the second.

I prefer to view the result as a game which helped us to get 7 pts out of a possible 9, rather than think of it as 2 pts dropped yesterday.

For me it was about them saying what great banter they had with the Slough fans I did not get that impression towards end and after the game when it boiled over and got a bit nasty.

Such a shame to let in equaliser so so late the players did not deserve that after a great week but hopefully as they say things will even out over a season and it will be s scoring with last kick of the game.

Was Ben captain for the game.

Let.s go again next week

First half we were the better side but both teams had 3 efforts on target, second half was a real midfield battle and we didn’t have a shot on target with Concord having one, the goal.

Another game where the referee was poor, clear foul by us in build up to our goal, their no.7 should have got red for scissor tackle on Josh, decisions wrong to both teams but more importantly not noticing Lenchy choking and shaking on the ground while letting play go on.

As for the Concord celebration of the equaliser and full time whistle it was mostly light hearted apart from a Concord sub - unused sub - giving it the w*#+er sign with both hands to those in the West Stand, but one of their backroom staff did apologise after the game for their ‘delighted’  celebration.

The ref was very poor anyone else notice their 9 go down injured just before the halfway line in the second half physio came on to review and yet he was not asked to leave the field of play as required by the ref then straightaway he goes over in our box looking for a pen.  For a big lad he was very fluffy! Agree with comments on 3 and 7 how 7 stayed on the park is beyond me and bordering on desperation on how they both play both punching above their weight in this league.

1st half Sloughs, 2nd half we got dragged into a bun fight which they probably edged not that I agree with how they edged it.

Attendance was a disappointing 437 yesterday.

Whilst there had been some back and forth between the West stand and their bench, I don't think it warranted the full on celebrations including the hand gestures. Makes you pleased as to who we have in charge and the manner in which they conduct themselves at all times, heated moments or otherwise. Was also disappointed to see a "fan" having a proper go at the Slough bench after the game and was rightfully ejected. Not quite sure what his issue was but hopefully won't be seen again for a while.

On the "banter" with the west stand, in the first half both the manage and coach got shouted at for swearing by the stand and called out for it. They both acknowledged they had dome wrong, but still continued to swear. Unfortunately this seems to be a common issue from away managers and benches and IMO it's extremely poor by the stewards not to be doing something to enforce the ground rules as I'm certain if I was in the stand shouting what they where, I would have been removed from the ground.

In the second half there was some good banter by a few of the fans in the stand with the bald guy (manager?) and rightly so, when they equalised they were bound to give it back. The sign language by the sub was poor, but I suspect that was the excitement of youth as the manager/coach gave it back to the guys that had been bantering them. All fairly harmless stuff and we'll received by everyone involved I'd say.

Blimey that’s around 200 down on recent crowds which were already disappointing and way down from last season. I know Concord don’t bring any away fans but why such a low crowd especially after 2 wins? This is quite worrying and bit of a head scratcher especially as the Bath game just a few days ago attracted 200 more? Really gutting as the club are putting on deals but I guess you can only keep trying.

Was it a home fan or an away fan giving our bench some stick?

Now for the game?

Thought we did well again, much in the vain of Tuesday night. Only slight difference was the chance creation yesterday. Against Bath, IMO, the Bath keeper was their MoM, where as yesterday I'm not sure I remember the Concord keeper (or Jonathon North) really having anything to save.

It was clear to see the fatigue setting in after the past week with a few of the boys at the end, but they all gave everything they had to give which is all I as a fan want from the team.

As has been said in a couple of ways above and in Neil's interview, 7/9 points out of this week's fixtures is an outstanding result especially given some of the performances and more importantly results we have had this season thus far.

Alfonso Tenconi has been a real find and 2 out of 2 thus far is a massive bonus and long may it continue.

Was also excellent to see Warren Harris back on the pitch, hopefully having him on the way back will give us more options and is like getting a new signing at this stage.

Fingers crossed the performances and results can continue moving forwards and we can find those couple of illusive signing to give the squad another boost following the recent success.

If it was thats a ridiculous move. After Whitehawk, I think Neil and Jon were probably surprised how little stick they would have received, but it's clear there has been a shift both with the squad moves and the attitude in the dressing room in the past week. Anyone being too overly critical at this point given the turn around is very much barking up the wrong tree.

On the low attendances:

My thought is that because the cost of living is rising in leaps and bounds some people are having to pick and choose what games they attend.

Bath was a reasonable midweek attendance but another home game a few days later against an unfashionable club like Concorde could possibly have meant that some supporters chose to give it a miss.
