Havant game [and Bakes and Unders interview]

Just listened to Ade's interview of Bakes and Unders about squad changes and the forthcoming Havant match. Found it really interesting and cleared up a lot of questions we[fans] have about the acquisition and signing of new players.

Also well done to Ade for asking [and not ducking out of] the question about the timing of the Tom Derry departure. I understand why Bakes and Unders have chosen to release Tom Derry but I was a bit puzzled by the timing of it ie going into the away match against Havant.

As for the Havant match,as Del Boy says 'He who dares'.....

But when would be a good time to release a player? Had it happened after the Havant game, some would then say we’re playing Bath on Tuesday night and will be short!

True. I suppose our managers thought they had another player coming in.

I just thought they would have given him a 2 or 3  more games, as all strikers go through lean spells. I suppose he is one of our more costly of players,so perhaps that has a bearing on it.

Sounds like it wasn't just the playing side with Tom Derry with Bakes saying the 'dynamics' weren't right, whatever that means.

When Bakes said the 'dynamics weren't right' about Tom Derry, I took that to mean on the pitch ie not fitting into the style of play and not scoring enough goals.

I didn't see Tom Derry in a Slough shirt, so do not know of his talents and inabilities but I do know the Slough crowd and sometimes they give unfair stick to strikers who aren't putting the ball in the net. They miss other elements/nuances of a player's game.

So with pressure mounting on Bakes and Unders to halt this recent slide, our managers probably felt impelled to change something about the team, with Tom Derry not being a fans favourite, and failing to find net enough, it would appear he was the obvious 'fall guy' to be released.

Well done bakes, unders and the boys. Hopefully shut the moaners up for 3 days or so. Been awful reading the dross on here over the last week.8 games into the season, get a grip people.

Radders - any reason having read the "moaners" comments you didn't chime in with your confidence about today's fixture and how we would get a result? Just to counter balance the moaners?

As for the result, amazing. No way anyone thought we would get anything from the game so to give us 3 points is fantastic. Hopefully we can use this as a stepping stone and build on this for the 2 home games to make sure it isn't a one off.

Those that made the game, how did we play? Did the "new" striker look good?

Great win against our promotion/playoff rivals today.

Tough to summarise the game as so much happened and the second half felt like 2 hours. It was a very hard working performance and all 13 players gave absolutely everything. Midfield 4 all played well and George Hunt had his best game so far for us. We were clearly the better team in the first half, had our fair share of possession and created chances and half chances.

Alfonso showed glimpses up front of what he’s about, very quick and sharp and has confidence. Looks promising.

Hard to pick a MOTM as everybody played well, but I’d have to shortlist Capt today Ben Harris, Freddie Grant and Jonathan North.

Havant showed their usual class in defeat, with their abuse directed at Jon North I think - for getting a boot to the head which led to the red card.

Hopefully we follow this up and get some momentum going.

An excellent win and signs that talented individuals are beginning to meld into a coherent team

Not sure why a number of  us talk H&W up They've  a gobby manager but have made a modest start to the league season  lost as many games as they've  won and lost just one less than ourselves currently in 13th place they will need to improve a lot to meet Doswells aspirations

Congratulations to Neil and  Jon who have clearly put a lot of thought and work into recent days.

Radders, you're always welcome to chip in with your own comments and opinions rather than leaving it to only the 'moaners' to have a say.

BTW I don't think there's been any unfair or derogatory comments from forum contributors or moaners as you like to call them.

Fantastic win.

Well done you Rebels!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait for Tuesday's game!

Adrian, they have spent a small fortune on assembling a team that on paper should go close to getting promotion this season, that's why not just us but most supporters and managers talk them up.

They are under performing at the moment but they are still involved in the FA cup, with a tasty away game at Charlton to come, and as most on here have said we are only 8 games into the season so there's still plenty of time for them to challenge for promotion.

3spirit, I'm sure not being a fans favourite was nothing to do with Tom leaving and only scoring twice was more than likely only a minor factor.

If a player fits our managers criteria and is doing everything else right but just not finding the net I'm sure they would be given a lot more time.

After all we were only 7 games into the season when Tom left.

Ben was brilliant winning  lots of headers getting stuck in and as always making a nuisance of himself winding up there defence. North.s best game Guy@toggs superb at the heart of the defence especially last twenty minutes last ditch defending and three goal bound shots block.

bakes@unders being defenders themselves they must be over the moon how the team defended from front to back outstanding.

We stopped Havant from getting a foothold in the game as well keeping there crowd quiet.

Well taken penalty from Arun had a great chance to make it 3 nil before half time very impressed with Alfonso.

A result to build on.

RR  There's plenty of evidence that spending a fortune to try to buy success really doesn't work the people who try it usually spend big on players from a higher level ageing and past their best by date  Big spending isn't helping Marc White is it And of course you need really intelligent management

Adrian, we know money doesn't always guarantee success.

Dorking have just gone into a play-off place and if Havant win their game in hand they will also be in a play-off place.

With only 8/9 games gone they are both still on schedule to reach the play-offs so I wouldn't say at this moment in time that the money they've spent has been wasted.

I think Dowsett was expecting a problem his pre match address mentioned the two games in 4 days against Torquay just 3 games before this match He mentioned that we were and full strength again whilst he had key players missing and praised our managers

Nice opening line RW.

Is it a throw away comment or do you really believe it?
