Tom Derry

I think everyone on here knows my feelings on Tom Derry this season for Slough so no point "kicking a man when he's down", hopefully we can use this departure and Ryan Bird's wages (with the league insurance policy and gofundme money in place) to start to revamp and improve things.

It's pretty rare that Neil and Jon get a signing totally wrong, but even rarer for them not to act when required so I applaud them for that, also good news to see Guy Hollis, Ben Harris and Warren Harris back in the side for the weekend as well?

Has departed the Rebels.

I'd like to thank Tom for his efforts in a Rebels shirt and wish him all the best for the

RR For 55 years I have  supported every player who plays for our club but like Phil Beal who played for us in the 70s he gave me the impression of when is the ref going to blow the final whistle sorry to say just my view and how I saw it now I maybe totally wrong.

Would say as an experienced striker his style of play did not suit our team and playing along side inexperienced players did not look easy also as there was a disconnect in where he was expecting the final ball to be placed noticed it on a number of times since his first game.

All our forwards past and present Ben Harris Manny Scott Harris Eddie Smith etc you always know they will leave there all on the pitch.

I honestly don't think Tom was that sort of person not to give his all.

I think he tried his hardest but unfortunately it just didn't work out for both parties.

In hindsight perhaps.

Having said that some supporters were calling out for a striker who can 'hold the ball up' and 'win all the headers'.

From what I saw, Derry wasn’t good at either of those things!

We know decent strikers cost a pretty penny but we do really need one who has experience of this level and has been prolific. We need a player to hit the ground running and not another youngster who will need time to develop. Although I’d prefer a permanent signing maybe a loan of an experienced National League player could be an option to get us up and running?

John Akinde (Gillingham) - looks to be seeing out the final year of his contract, doesn’t appear to be getting any playing time, possible loan opportunity until the transfer window?

Michael Gash - maybe no longer a threat at Conference Premier level, but too good to be playing for Peterborough Sports?

Jake Robinson - is he still at Dartford? Doesn’t appear to have played for a month, is he injured?

Jake Robinson is still at Dartford, not sure if he's injured but he's recently been co commentating on Darts radio on match days.

Why not bring in a new centre half and play Guy Hollis up front with Ben Harris for a few games. Guy can head a ball, is strong and not easily shaken off the ball. Get him to close down on the opposition defenders. Would save a few bob for a few weeks and get him up to speed for the winter games[as a defender]. I'm not sure his right peg could hit a barndoor but he is a confident sort of bloke,so I would tell him to shoot on sight of the goalposts.  It would be novel and give the fans a laugh, if nothing else ! ha ha. Also may suit attacking midfielders breaking into the box by making space for them and ease Ben Harris from doing too much physical work, given his injury woes.

Finding a striker and a centre back on Tom Derry's wages will be a tough push, so maybe a bit of out of the box thinking, may lead to a change in fortunes.
