View from the Boundary
A first league win for 2 months and ending a winless run of 9 games, a very welcome 3 points at Holmer Green sees Jets climb out of the drop zone with a 2-1 scoreline. Played in almost perpetual rain it wasn't a classic, and Jets rode their luck certainly with the post twice coming to their aid, but having been an early goal down at the break Ferrell Charles latched on to a peach of a cross from Kyal Williams on the hour before Ricardo Adewuji grabbed the winner on 68. Right back Steven Wade got his marching orders for kicking the ball away with 15 still to go, a second yellow and the last thing the team needed, but the Greens couldn't take advantage. Another couple of debutants tonight, the number 8 (Ben Barnett) looked decent in attacking midfield. Spoke to his dad afterwards, Ben's been out for 12 weeks with a fracture in his back and wasn't due to play the full 90 so he did very well in those circumstances, plus the conditions. Well over 50 players have played for Oxhey already this term, and there will be more to come. Kevin Christou is moulding a promising young side, some positions are stronger than others certainly but in just 4 games the improvement is obvious. There's going to be ups and downs with so many young players in the side but I have no doubt they will be well clear of a relegation battle and probably top 10. Not many would've said that a few weeks ago.
