Rhodes
A very disappointing First Round exit on penalties for Eynesbury United on Saturday considering the are the holders of the trophy: Hunts Intermediate Cup 1st Round Warboys Town (0) 0 Eynesbury Utd (0 0 For the second time in a week United bowed out of a cup competition on penalties, after a good 0-0 cup tie with Warboys. In a game that could have gone either way Maher of Warboys stepped up to beat Jeckells and send the home team and supporters into delirium. The first half was very much an even affair with both teams enjoying good possession. United had the first real chance when Baxter put in a low hard cross but there was no one in the box to finish. Warboys had plenty of good play and also had a great effort which Jeckells saved. All square at half time and United dominated for huge parts of the half, however they paid the price for not being clinical. Fox hit a 30 yard shot which smashed into bar, Humphrey gave the Warboys right back a torrid time and when Larham touched a rasping shot over the bar from Routs the writing for United was probably on the wall. Adam Jennings was denied when his header saw Larham save at the near post. Controversy in the last minute when Spavins seemed to be fouled in the area but the referee decided it was a fair tackle and the game went to penalties. Dixon scored the first, however McLeans effort was saved, Morris and Fox scored theirs but Maher rattled the net and United’s hold on the cup was over. It’s was a good game but for United it’s now back to the league and that elusive promotion to step 6 .. next Saturday they are home to 61FC.
