A groundhopper from another Forum was at Preston Park this afternoon:

Spartan South Midlands Football League - Premier Division
Preston Park - Official Attendance: 90
Harefield United (3) 4  Dunstable Town (0) 0

Admission - £6
Programme - online (not checked it out yet)
The most remarkable thing about this game was that I made it for the start. Closure of parts of both the M4 and the M40 heading in to London should have had me worried, but Google Maps suggested I could complete the trip in under 2 hours. My trust was misplaced. I joined the M40 from the M25 at about 13:25 and left at the next junction, along with everyone else, over an hour later. I had already resigned myself to missing the start of the match, but amazingly I paid my £6 and walked through the turnstile at 14:56 - a total journey time from South Hampshire of about 3 hours. No time for pre-match food & drink or photos, but I was just happy to have arrived.
This was a fairly routine win for the hosts. Their #10 opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Their second goal came from the penalty spot, scored by their #8 (Richard Pacquette who, in a previous life, had famously given Havant & Waterlooville a 1-0 lead against Liverpool at Anfield) and the third was netted by their #9. Dunstable battled gamely in the second half, determined not to let the scoreline get any worse from their perspective, but with a little under 15 minutes remaining, Harefield's #10 notched his second.
Journey home was far less stressful. Made it in plenty of time to watch another routine win - for England against Andorra.

Risborough Rangers 4 Arlesey Town 1

A well known groundhopper from another Forum was at Horsenden Lane, I hope he was well looked after:

Fatbear's Sporting Diaries: Risborough Rangers 4-1 Arlesey Town ( att : 121 ) Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division (fatbearssportingdiaries.blogspot.com)

Risborough Rangers 4-1 Arlesey Town
Spartan South Midlands Premier Division
Attendance 121
Admission £7 ( concessions £4, U18 £1 )
On-line programme but also a free 4 page fold over team sheet
A comfortable victory for Risborough, taking advantage of an awful first 30 minutes from Arlesey who were tactically all over the place, playing what looked to be a back three but had to replace two of them by half-time. Arlesey looked good going forward though so are likely to feature in a number of high scoring games this season.
Risborough looked pretty solid all-round so look likely contenders for promotion.

Only 2 league wins for Corries in the last 2 campaigns, 17 games played, since the new manager/s took over.

Already behind schedule on the colossal 5 year plan. Top 5 finish was the initial target.

Where do they go from here?

Nice club Tring and got a lot of a time for Gary who kept that club running for years.

There is little to no ground development opportunity there, so not sure what the end game was for their 5 year plan. Appears a lot of grandiose statements with little substance.

the last club in Division 2 to publicly promote a 5 year plan was Mursley and they are now in the North Bucks and about 8 years into their plan.

It's scary how much time & effort Gary has put in over the years. Not seen the plan but I think there was a potential deal a few years ago with a land swap meaning housing being built on their ground & them getting a new pitch close by. I think that side of Icknield Way is Green Belt so always an issue to develop and get lights.

We weren't expecting this result were we:

Spartan South Midlands Div 2
Bovingdon (0) 0 Eynesbury United (3) 6 (Bassett 4, Fox 2)
Four goals from skipper and man of the match Lee Bassett saw the Bulls take home all three points in what was the Bulls best away performance of the season.
Hosts Bovingdon were looking to win their fourth straight game and started on the front foot and the best of the early exchanges, but as most teams have found this season Evan Jeckells made a couple of early saves to keep the scores level. United were playing a new formation and were struggling to get to grips, but they still carved out chances and Bassett could have broken the deadlock but his shot was well saved. Bovingdon though continued to get their chances but we’re wasteful in front of goal and never took their chances. On 25 minutes the game burst into life when good work from the midfield found the ball falling to Shane Fox whose rasping shot nestled in the bottom corner. One up and to be fair a little against the run of play. However, this did kick United into life and Bassett could have made it two but his effort was well blocked. Bovingdon though kept pushing and should have been level but a great save from Jeckells when realistically from 5 yards he should not have had a chance, and moments later he made another great save when the Bovingdon wide man got in behind the United back line.
United continued to grow and great work from Flack saw a ball flash across the goal and Bassett was their to fire home. Two up and now United were finally hitting the straps and skipper Bassett was on hand again when Fox squared the ball and he fired hone to send the away side in three up at half time.
The second half saw very much the same with the hosts working hard to break United down and United hitting them on the counter. And it was from one of those counter attacks that saw Bassett once more in the right place but he scuffed his shot and the keeper saved. However, it was not long before he got his hat trick when his partner in crime Fox again worked a great chance and Bassett fired home to make it four nil. Fox then got his second after great work from Bassett who robbed the defender and squared for his partner to score. And Bassett finished of the scoring when his shot was deflected home to complete a great day for the Bulls. Was it a six nil ? probably not but the Bulls were clinical in front of goal and Jeckells was a lot busier than the score suggested, but a great win and now on to New Bradwell at home next week, the boys can only take a lot of confidence from this performance and they sit third in the league but a long way to go.

Will this result cost Buckingham United boss John Walton his job, New Bradwell St Peter led 5-1 at the break and it was 8-1 just after the hour mark with a 21st minute substitute having scored five of the goals. It was surprising therefore that the visitors only struck once more before the finish however they did have a player needlessly  dismissed on 76 minutes which will have been disappointing for boss Jamie Green:

That must have been some power point presentation. Reminiscence of Andre Villa Boas getting the Chelsea job. Perhaps they included the floor layout plans for each house.
