If you're talking about avoiding relegation, I'm not sure having a financial backer is necessarily the answer.

There are plenty of clubs who are doing ok without any substantial backing and there are clubs like Hemel for example who have a wealthy Chairman and are struggling at this present time sitting bottom of the table having just sacked their manager.

In this current climate having a club that is self sustaining, financially solvent and competitive in their division is probably more important than having someone chucking money around in an attempt to get promoted.

Completely missing my point RR but it’s ok, I’m not falling into the trap I did 10-11 years ago and getting accused of stirring things up… Let’s leave it there!

On the financial backer point, I think you only need to look at Dorking sitting in 10th place after 6 matches to see massive investment isn't always the answer.

Having said that, im sure all in the board and running the club would love someone with money to come in and take on that role.

The problem for us as Slough is what would a financial backer actually be getting as with the club (as far as I'm aware) we have no assets apart from a few balls and kits (maybe some cones as well?) and the "rights" to the name, logo etc for the club. So what we would actually be looking for is someone or a group of people that are prepared to come in and "own" the club, put a load of money in to improve the team all for very little (possibly tax purposes but that gets complicated).

Doesn't sound like an easy sell to me!!!!

I don’t think that was the full story with Steve RR but I stand to be corrected.

Voicing concern about the financial backing of a club can happen at any time regardless of league position, I’m asking a very valid question.

The point is Cookham Rebel that a well managed club is financially viable by covering costs with income, of which in the latter sponsorship is often a major factor.

Having a financial backer rather than getting a club standing on its own two feet is not desirable.

Surely players will react differently to criticism.

Some will go into their shell and get worse and some will respond, show some backbone and come out fighting.

It's ok having lots of skill levels and capabilities but I'm afraid skill and ability alone is not always enough.

There have been loads of top midfield players who don't have a lot of skill but they are top players because they have other attributes to offer.

In my experience people who take their sport as seriously as players at Slough's level do are their own worst critics and there is a lot of evidence about the effect of cognitive dissonance on performance under pressure. Also, in a team sport, if even 2 or 3 heads will dip further if the team are booed then it will affect the team's performance overall and be counterproductive.

I understand the viewpoint of people who say, I paid £15 and have the right to boo, I just don't share that view and think it's likely to worsen performance at the time not improve it. That's why I will choose to encourage the team at those moments.

I am not an apologist for the performance last Saturday, it was abject. I think a lot of players should be taking a long hard look at themselves - I know Jon and Neil will ensure they do, I think it will be in the nature of most to do so but it needs to be done fast or we will be in for a torrid season. Like Neil did in the interview, I would excuse Joe and Eitel, they came on to rescue a game and plainly were trying hard in a situation that the team had made almost impossible. I'm really hoping they both score a goal soon as I think they will get into a lot of scoring positions.

It's what makes a club though isn't it - different opinions and strengths, even amongst the supporters.

Of course. If players are booed some will react badly to it and some will react positively to it but overall if it happens during a game it will affect the game and performance of the team negatively.

I understand why people feel the need to boo but I don't agree with it.

Apart from an avid supporter winning the lottery, it would have to be a person or group of people who want to run/own a club that is well run, debt free and has the potential to pull in decent attendances.

Sorry ladies and gentleman, expected funds didn't come through as I'd hoped. Let's hope for some better news Saturday evening ;)

Ok SG, my point is quite simple, the club is standing on its own 2 feet, has done because of the excellent work put in by Mr Easterbrook’s leadership BUT if we want to be ambitious, and I’m not saying promotion, finance has to come from somewhere else, innovative ways etc even if that means backing. Our 2 excellent managers do not strike me as 2 men that are happy to stand still, that’s all I’m saying, they are about progression.

Bakes, Unders - Apologies for throwing my opinion in of you 2 as Managers, but that’s how I view you both, ambitious and progressive!

Looking at his profile I'd guess that Shredding was more of a Hayes supporter than Slough.

Being that we haven't got a game that week it's pretty much guaranteed that he will be at Hayes.

RR : the only time that I don't like football at 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon is when there are two matches which I want to go to. Hayes & Yeading United v Sutton United is a tie between two clubs with much history and local interest but not chosen by any of the television companies.

At 3 pm this Saturday afternoon I will be at Maidstone United v Slough Town, musically inspired by Brighton Rebel's article in last Saturday's match programme.

Not surprised you'll be watching the mighty Slough against Maidstone  ?
