FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

The team needed to get in the Whitehawk faces more, we gave them way too much time and made a team on a very very poor run look good, if this had happened there where mistakes all over that team, any player could look half decent with a lot of time on the ball! where was our desire? Wide players and our ten just jogging to press – not acceptable.

4-3-3 was the way to find the cracks in Whitehawk with an aggressive press, that's why they have conceded many goals they stick to trying to play out from the back no matter what the circumstances hence other teams scoring a fair few against them so far this season as they technically would not be good enough if hounded hard.

I wouldn’t say all are players gave the ball away poorly today, some would have had decent stats if analysed, I see the midfield showing for the ball a lot but not receiving it and we go long for it just to be lost most of the time or flicked on with no runner gambling, maybe this is what RR meant by non-existent today in midfield.  Watch closely next time how many times the midfield all of them are asking for the ball hand signal/voice/movement, and they don’t receive, disagree about lightweight in that position, lightweight or lack or effort in few other departments today imho.

Hate to say it we looked very soft at the back again today and not compact enough and goals being scored a concern again and would agree with Neil some senior players did not show up today!

That’s what I would call a very bad day at the office with a some dinosaur performances within the team.

Takes a defat like this sometimes for a reality check and a dust off as much as that is painful for the paying fans.

Have to disagree with some of what you say Footyfan.

Our midfield either continually gave the ball away or were just not physical enough to compete with a less talented but more determined and robust Whitehawk midfield.

Ineffective is different to non-existent. They got on the ball quite often but not much came of it, either going forward creating chances or stopping the opposition from playing.

Thats what's great about footy differing views...........

I know Neil said he would not of been surprised if the team were booed for the performance for me if your team are down they need more encouragement what does booing acheive.

COYREBELS

Agreed.

Now we know how Gainsborough felt.

I define myself as a supporter rather than a fan and believe I have a job to do when the players heads are down and that's help them pull them up again. It was a terrible performance but I will never boo the team...I didn't' hear anyone do that. As an athletics coach I knew that if a supporter/family member gave an athlete a hard time when they were performing badly (and in many cases straight afterwards) it just made it harder to perform.

My personal view is that we have lost some of the steel we have previously had in midfield (Togs away yesterday, Sam hanging his boots up, Dunny moving on) and whilst you need the skill levels and capabilities of Aaron and George Hunt, who on their day are great, we don't have a midfield leader as such. But, I'm not a football expert, and I know Jon and Neil will be brutally honest with themselves and the team - as will key squad members - so I'll trust them to make the interventions.

We don't have the cash to make wholesale changes and I'm not sure it would help if we did.

I've supported this team for more than 50 years and I'm not going to stop now.

Surely players will react differently to criticism.

Some will go into their shell and get worse and some will respond, show some backbone and come out fighting.

It's ok having lots of skill levels and capabilities but I'm afraid skill and ability alone is not always enough.

There have been loads of top midfield players who don't have a lot of skill but they are top players because they have other attributes to offer.

At times yesterday it looked like we were playing a 5-0-5 formation, there were several occasions when there was 30 yards between the defence and the midfield.

It’s been quite rightly noted that there was a lack of leadership in midfield, with George and Aaron still young and new to this level, but that’s where the more experienced players need to step up. For me, if Togs is unavailable then, I’d like to see Sean play the holding midfield role

Agree that we lacked leadership in central midfield.

As well as missing Togs and regardless of what players are missing, playing Matt Lench out of position is a waste of his talents and for me he should be in central midfield unless there is no other option.

I think lack of leadership at the back must be questioned as well.

Dipped out on a nice local derby.

Shredding Green will get a chance to see what he missed on Saturday if he's up for another trip to Hayes and Yeading FC.

Looking at his profile I'd guess that Shredding was more of a Hayes supporter than Slough.

Being that we haven't got a game that week it's pretty much guaranteed that he will be at Hayes.

I am a Slough Towseason ticket holder and only see Hayes & Yeading United four or five times a season.

The only thing guaranteed for me on Saturday 2nd October is that I am on a railtour to Crick Tram Museum and on another to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway on 16th October, the date of the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

I think Shredding Green is a ground hopper/football and sport fan, and his heart's in the right place about Slough Town FC, as he likes to support the club.

It's strange topic on what makes a great supporter. I read the forum regularly and laugh at some of the comments about club loyalty. It's exactly the same as people who attend a church or a social club constantly. They expect to be treated better than everyone else. I totally agree they should have perks and benefits that the long service deserves but why do people feel the need to alienate other attendees who just happen to want to do things in another way. I admire long serving Slough supporters for what they give to our club but sometimes I find haughty comments about what other fan's do or don't do cringing. I wasn't aiming this comment at you Reading Rebel, I was just commenting in general about such things.

Does anyone know what’s going on behind the scenes with finding a new financial backer?

To me, this is the biggest reason for our poor start, lack of finance, unless someone comes in soon I hate to think what might happen.

Should’ve stuck with Mr Easterbrook!

Steve Easterbrook resigned from his position as Chairman.

We're only 5 games into the season and 4 points off a play off place so not sure why you've voiced your concern at this time.

I don’t think that was the full story with Steve RR but I stand to be corrected.

Voicing concern about the financial backing of a club can happen at any time regardless of league position, I’m asking a very valid question.

After I win the lottery tonight, look no further (taps nose).

If you're talking about avoiding relegation, I'm not sure having a financial backer is necessarily the answer.

There are plenty of clubs who are doing ok without any substantial backing and there are clubs like Hemel for example who have a wealthy Chairman and are struggling at this present time sitting bottom of the table having just sacked their manager.

In this current climate having a club that is self sustaining, financially solvent and competitive in their division is probably more important than having someone chucking money around in an attempt to get promoted.
