FA Cup Second Qualifying Round Draw

Only two Berkshire clubs are in the draw Slough and Hungerford.

Both Marlow and Flackwell Heath are in the draw with Flackwell having to win their replay with Weston Super Mare.

Nice local game against Flackwell will do for me.

Just avoid the dreaded Truro away and of course the obligatory Dartford.

Just remembered that Truro are now playing at Plymouth Parkway's ground which would cut the journey down by at least 1hr 30 mins.

The draw was split into five regions but I could not find what the regions were. However, Truro City were definitely not in the same region as Slough Town and
Hungerford Town will be pleased that they have been drawn at home to them.

For the two southern regions they must of drawn a line from say Reading down to the coast and then a line across to Kent and Essex.

Couldn't have wished for a better draw to get into the next round and the chance of some more prize money.

Certainly winnable but as we know it's the FA cup and there will be plenty of cup upsets.

Remember Harrogate Railway !

FA Cup November 2010 1-0

11th September 2010 in fact. Apparently Rebels were a team of fiddlers and fumblers on the day :-

11 September 2010 15:00 FA Cup

ERITH TOWN

SLOUGH TOWN

Slough Town, who have enjoyed a very promising start to the season in the Central Division of the Southern League, disappeared without trace from the FA Cup following an abject performance against Erith Town from the Kent League yesterday.

The home side deserved to progress after the travelling Rebels fiddled and fumbled their many opportunities away following a recent brilliant period that had seen them score fourteen goals in their previous three matches. They managed to still look a classy side, but the superb Tim Roberts in the home goal hardly seemed troubled as he comfortably controlled his penalty area throughout the game.

Unfortunately for the travelling Slough faithful, goalkeeper Jamie Jackson had a dreadful moment on the half hour as the ball popped out of his hands and ran loose allowing Rikki Cable to score the goal that decided the tie for Erith, after which the Rebels squandered chance after chance throughout the rest of the game.

The further time went on, the more Erith seemed the more certain to take the honours, and towards the end they grew in confidence and seemed on the brink of increasing their lead. In the final stages Slough desperately substituted Simon Martin by bringing on assistant manager John Lawford, who had retired from the game a couple of seasons ago.

The vital missing ingredient from the Slough attack may have been the suspended Sean Sonner, but the fact remains that it’s Erith Town who will progress into the next round while the sizeable number of travelling Slough fans will be involved in an important league match instead at the end of the month.

Yeah, I went into that one thinking we were through before ball was kicked.

I remember they brought a few, they had this red kit and this big lug up front.

That one was gutting.

Also, losing to H&Y at Windsor where that DJ Campbell scored a few. Didnt they pull a prem team next round?

Rebels lost to Yeading before they merged with Hayes and in the next round Yeading were drawn at home to Newcastle United and played the match at Loftus Road. The Premier League was known as The Premiership in those days.

Lee Bowyer and Shola Ameobi scored the goals which ensured Newcastle avoided a potentially embarrassing pitfall against non-league Yeading.

Yeading held out for 50 minutes before Ameobi and Craig Bellamy opened up Yeading's stubborn defence to provide Bowyer with a simple tap-in.

Ameobi clinched victory with a firm header from a free-kick.

Although Newcastle finished comfortable winners, David Clarke's free-kick forced a fine save from Steve Harper.

Despite a difference of 123 league places, Yeading showed scant respect for their Premiership opponents and in the opening exchanges were determined to test out Newcastle's new £8m signing Jean-Alain Boumsoung.

The French defender twice conceded free-kicks in dangerous positions and from the second for a foul on Errol Telemaque, Newcastle's defence was flat-footed as Emond Protain rose highest to head over.

Newcastle tried to draw Yeading's sting by patiently stringing passes together and Ameobi worked his way to the by-line where his pull-back was met by a stretching Bowyer who deflected the ball wide from three yards out.

Yeading escaped on 19 minutes when Ameobi slid a pass through for Bellamy to rattle the crossbar with a ferocious shot, and as Newcastle maintained the pressure Delroy Preddie produced a brilliant fingertip save from Jermain Jenas' piledriver.

But at the other end, Newcastle keeper Steve Harper had to be at his best to prevent the Ryman League leaders from taking the lead.

Bowyer's rash challenge on Telemaque 20 yards out gave David Clarke the chance to curl a free-kick round the wall and it needed a full-length save from Harper to keep it out.

Another free-kick gave Yeading a chance at the start of the second half but from a training ground routine the ball was worked to Clarke whose shot curled wide from 22 yards.

But five minutes into the second half, the sighs of relief were audible as Newcastle took the lead.

Ameobi's pass found Bellamy scuttling into the inside-right channel and he placed the ball across goal to provide Bowyer with the simplest of tap-ins.

Bowyer had a chance to kill the game but lifted the ball over keeper Preddie and the crossbar as he burst on to Robert's cross.

Ameobi did give Newcastle breathing space just after the hour when he got ahead of his marker to plant a firm header past Preddie.

Relieved of the tension, Newcastle were able to play with some freedom and Bellamy led a lightning break from defence which ended with Bowyer firing over under pressure from Clarke.

Newcastle attacked in waves as the part-timers tired, but they refused to fold and showed determination and spirit to deny Newcastle.

Yeading were denied a deserved consolation when Harper went full-length to palm away Darti Brown's fierce shot.

RM, I think it was the old Yeading fc before they merged with Hayes.

If my memory served me correct they drew Newcastle in the next round and made something like 100k+ from it.

I think Yeading tried to switch the venue of the game but the FA declined the request.

Just seen the comprehensive reply from Shredding with all the details.
