My first game this season and whilst I think we’ll be competitive as always, we are going to struggle to create chances and score enough goals to be competitive in the top half.

On the penalty, the young lad showed incredible bravery but one of the senior players has to take responsibility there even if they are not a regular penalty taker, the way everyone parted like the Red Sea when the decision was given was poor I thought.

Their goal, the ball was moving all over the place so no blame on North!

1st game of the season for me today due to 1 thing or another. Gutted with the result but I thought there were some major positives to take from the game.

1. Thought the defence looked very solid, even though missing Josh Jackman. Sean deputised very well and performed exactly like you would expect. In a complete U-turn from me, I thought Ryan Bird looked very solid and had a good game as well. 1 that I am certainly happy to be proved wrong on.

2. Thought the younger members of the team in Hunt, Goueth, Lawal and George looked excellent prospects and some of the football was superb. Good flowing passes and movement.

3. Tom Derry put himself about and was a thorn in the Cippenham teams side all afternoon. Had a good breakaway chance in the 1st half after great play from Hunt and Goueth and will be gutted to have not scored.

A few negatives from what I saw -

1. I thought Lench looked poor this afternoon and was surprised at his lack of cutting edge going forwards. Also dwelled on the ball too much and got caught out.

2. I assume Togs wasn't 100% fit as towards the end of the 1st half he looked spent which isn't like him at all.

3. Gutted for Goueth and the pen he missed. Brave lad to step up and take it but a good save was made. It happens and I hope he keeps his chin up as other than that I thought he was excellent.

4. After the previous 2 games reports on North, I was shocked with the goal. I will be interested to see the highlights as I'm not too sure what he was trying to do with a fairly poor freekick, but mistakes happen and other than that he was faultless today.

One of those games where a draw was probably a fair result but 1 error has coat us. Not the end of the world as these things happens and I think this season we have to be very realistic on our team and position available to us to finish in.

I thought overall the performance was very good and hopefully next week away at Welling we can use some of the very good chances we created today and put them to the sword.

Not sure I agree on the "chances" created today CR. Goueth had a good one in the 1st half as well as Derry on the breakaway. 2nd half was more difficult but I thought across the game we delivered the ball into the box very well, just didn't have the finish on the end.

100% agree about the pen. I never understand why any centre forward doesn't take a pen. Especially given Derry was taking them in pre-season. No fault on Goueth though.

Will be interested to see the replay of the free kick as from the top of the stand, it looked fairly tame, so will be interested to see the footage and see the movement.

I mean the chances were not clear cut chances, all half chances where the chance favoured the goalkeeper.

With the free kick, the ball moved right at the last moment, nothing North could do but parry it.

Absolutely gutting to lose a game like that! We should have and deserved to win but poor defending and a bit of luck for Chippenham stole the points for them. We played some decent stuff at times and the young lads, Lench and North for me were our top performers. I think we were all surprised no senior player take the penalty as it’s seems unfair to give a young lad that pressure obviously unless this was all agreed beforehand and he wanted to take it?

Penalties along the ground never a good idea, but no blame on the young lad.

Not often I disagree to any great extent on your post match comments SF but on this occasion my views differ somewhat.

Firstly I agree with you that our defense did look solid and that George Hunt certainly improved on last week and had a reasonably good game along with Eitel who put in his usual all action shift.

It's mainly on your negative comments that I disagree with.

I thought Matt Lench was a candidate for motm and Lee Togwell for his comeback game put in his usual solid shift shoring up our midfield.

I can remember Lenchy getting caught out on the odd occasion but the amount of times he demanded the ball and carried it forward with some purpose it's inevitable that he will lose the ball on the odd occasion.

I thought our overall performance was ok but I really cannot remember too many if any of the 'very good chances' you say we created.

Two very evenly matched teams where for most of the game it looked like one goal would decide the outcome.

Again, some of our approach play was good without that killer ball/cross or shot in the final third to finish off a move.

Bringing on Lawal late on seemed to revitalize us in attack which eventually brought about the penalty which gave us the opportunity to grab all three points.

On the penalty I'm sure that Ryan Bird picked up the ball and wanted take the penalty but for some unknown reason the ball was given to Eitel to take.

It's got to be said that no blame is to be attached to Eitel for missing the penalty in what was a high pressure situation where if scored would more than likely have given us all 3 points.

In fact for such a young lad Eitel should be applauded for having the bottle to step up and take it.

Still early in the season but Welling away next week is looking like a big 3 points.

Well that was disappointing was thinking for sure a point but to loose that just hurts!

Footy is a very opinionated game on who did what etc but comes down to the detail in what you personally look for when watching a game.

The young lads in the team are for sure are capable footballers with some excellent passages of play from them Eitel and Hunt are beginning to forge a understanding and this can be seen in the tempo and trust that they move the ball around and cause problems for the opposition.

Football is such a fast game nowadays and you physically have to be able to get around the pitch and compete, this is the piece where I would say we lack, some can do it and some can't.

For me Ryan Bird had a good game today and probably edged motm for Slough and did his job as a stopper.

Hopefully next week we add to Wellings growing negative goal differnce.

Too early after just 3 games to be forming any opinions re the outcome of the season So far we have played 1 excellent team and 2 indifferent teams imo but our next game re Welling pits us  against a team whose GD is -13 after just 3 games They also have a game  on Monday that we don't  A convincing win will give some balance to our start and increase confidence and belief.

Of course no surprise in supporters having differing opinions on how players have played.

We've already had differing opinions on how Lenchy and Togs played ranging from poor to possibly our best player for Lenchy.

Still think I'm right on Lenchy though  ?

Interesting that you think we have players who can't get around the pitch and compete.

I think penalties along the ground are ok as long as, in the main, they are taken with pace on the ball and preferably in the corner.

I think Eitel's placing was ok but just not enough pace on the ball.

Crowd of ‘just’ 560 today, down 79 from what was a disappointing opening day crowd of 639. Obviously some are missing from COVID related but our average is a good 200 down which for a club that solely relies on people through the gate doesn’t bode well for any squad strengthening.

It didn't help that I counted about 15 Chippenham supporters behind the goal.

Ok there might have been a few scattered about but still a poor turn out from them.

I think you've also got to take into account it's the last bank holiday before schools go back which cannot have helped.

Add on the fact that some people are still concerned about covid and it may not be as bad as first thought.

Glen  Chippenham have a home Bank Holiday game with H&W tomorrow so not surprising not many travelled imo There is an almost full Bank Holiday program so I doubt if many clubs took their usual away numbers on Sat hence numbers weren't boosted by away support

I’m not concerned about the away support it’s the dwindling home support we should be worried about. Aside from COVID all the other factors are relevant every season but it appears there’s still been a big fall in numbers so far. I guess I was hoping after being starved of live football for so long we would enjoy larger crowds attending instead it seems the opposite has occurred.
