It was sadly a bridge too far for Harpenden Town last night at Garden Walk, at least Hadley still fly the SSML flag and entertain Ware in their Quarter Final on Tuesday 15 February:

Unlike you I have a life which allows me to be out a lot of the time and not sat at a computer trawling the internet. I was emailed the change of venue by Hadley and updated Full Time when I got home in the evening

A groundhopper from another Forum was at the Final last night at Parkfield:

Cheshunt 2 v 0 Hadley - Hertfordshire Senior Cup Final - Played at Potters Bar Town FC
Programme 20 pages £2.00 - Admission £10.00 - Att. 435

Prior to the start of proceedings here, there were several references to Cheshunt's previous HSC Final record of P9 W0 L9 record. They were no doubt elated to see this unwarranted record ended.

A contest that in the end showed the two division gap between the teams, though praise for Hadley though they will be disappointed that for all their possession in the opening hour they created very few chances and only really tested George Marsh in the Cheshunt goal on one occasion. The Cheshunt defence was hugely effective throughout.
On a pitch that had a hardened surface that a pneumatic drill would have had difficulty penetrating and was also somewhat uneven, Hadley were the more convincing during the first period. They had a good call for a penalty waved away when Solomon Ofori was pushed to the ground but the overriding memory of the first half was the level of defensive cover from Cheshunt as they always had the required number of defenders in place as was shown when an effective blocked thwarted one of the few occasions when a flowing Hadley move directly threatened with Ofori lining up a shot. There was only one occasion when the Cheshunt defence was breached with a quick turn into space by Dylan Ebmbengo and equally quickly struck shot that Marsh reacted very quickly to instinctively push the shot over the bar. Little from Cheshunt going forward but you could sense that they were patiently waiting for opportunities to arise.
The second half was much more even with Cheshunt starting to attack more effectively and Hadley becoming ever more frustrated about their continued inability to breach a well organised defence. Few obvious chances for either team with the closest being for Cheshunt as a corner from the right arriving out to Jamie Reynolds on the edge of the area and his powerful drive was narrowly wide of the post.
As the second half progressed there was the hint of that rarely seen beast of a period of Extra Time being played at the end of a County Cup tie, however it was becoming clear that a combination of effective substitutions being made by Cheshunt and a tiring Hadley defence which was having a tendency to on occasion concede possession was swinging the game into Cheshunt's favour and this proved to be the case with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes both of which originated with Hadley defenders losing possession just inside their own half. On both occasions the errors were capitalised on with a misplaced header being directed out to Kayne Diedrick-Roberts who angled past Tiernan Parker to give Cheshunt the lead. Diedrick-Roberts had the opportunity to double the lead running onto the pass of the game from Nick Dib that dissected the Hadley defence, however the former was beaten by a Potters Par pitch bobble just as he was lining up his shot which he placed wide. A minute into stoppage time and another conceding of possession was exploited by Cheshunt and Mo Camara angled a shot through the not inconsiderable gap between Parker and his near post to seal the win and the lifting of the trophy for the first time for Cheshunt. Also noted that Cheshunt clearly very much in form will be more than difficult opponents in the ILP Play-Offs that commence next midweek.
Evening well organised by the HCFA with a reasonable enough turnout which included a Cheshunt drummer who is probably the most unsubtle exponent of the art of pitchside bashing of instrument. Did not stay for the presentation as the lure of a fast return service back to Kings Cross was of greater benefit, indoors at 23.46.
