Hi guys,

Just a word of warning, over the past few years our (Chelmsford) younger fanbase has gained a reputation of being particularly unpleasant. Games against the likes of Dartford, Billericay and Braintree over the years has seen things kick off - fights breaking out with Dartford fans, glass bottles being thrown against Billericay, pitch invasions v Braintree. Seeing as it'll be the first proper game home and away fans are allowed into, the general consensus between our fanbase is that a lot of our more idiotic fanbase will end up travelling to Slough purely to look for trouble. I'm sure Slough are not strangers to this - seem to remember Millwall kicking off against you in the 80's after losing an FA Cup tie at your old ground!

Cheers!

So what is Chelmsford City FC doing about their undesirable element? He doesn't mention that.

He quotes "Slough are not strangers to this" but then refers to a match that took place 38 years 8 months and 11 days ago. How many Slough Towmatches have we seen any crowd trouble at in the meantime ... must be in the low single figures.

What a peculiar posting by ccfc123, as a moderator I've been asked to approve it . I don't approve it but as a couple of Slough fans have responded, I hardly think it's worth taking it off the forum. Other moderators may think different.

I can't make out if ccfc123 thinks he is a Chelmsford hard man[ but a silly foolish boy underneath it] or a genuine friendly Chelmsford adult supporter, warning Slough fans of their 'rogue' element. Either way it's a bizarre post.

Reading it again, he sounds like he must be older to know about the Millwall game but it still is a strange post IMO.

Anyone (even kids) can google past events!

I really can’t see any CCFC kids wanting to spend the money and time to get here for a ruck when they can quite easily to that at home games or in their own neighbourhood!

Even the brain dead enjoy an outing ! Hope you are right, though, they stay closer to their home.

Starting off with 'Hi Guys' and with very good spelling and punctuation it's almost certainly an educated adult not one of the brain dead.

Yes, the 'Hi Guys' seemed a pleasant entry to preceedings but the message sort of went off the rails, I thought.

The trouble is not all football thugs are young. Mindless hooligans are mostly young.  Some fully grown blokes can cause bother and fighting.

Haha, most definitely the latter, I'd hope so anyway! I appreciate if my post came off a bit strange, was just trying to warn/advise about our mindless element of younger fans.

Thanks for the tip off.

How are Chelmsford looking for the season ahead?

We've gone down a route of recruiting younger players, all part of an apparent vision set out by the new board. Personally, I feel there's a real lack of experience in the squad. I can see us finishing around the 15th placed mark.

With there not being a lot of money about I think sides recruiting and blooding younger players will be the preferred option for a lot of clubs.

Thanks for the reply. Glad you've cleared that one up.

I have only just registered to look on this site and am surprised by this topic prior to Saturday's game which I plan to attend along with 2 fellow supporters - all of us "of an age".

As a Chelmsford supporter since  1971 and having travelled to a fair % of away games, particularly over the last 10 years, I can only remember a couple of occasions when there has been any crowd trouble; one was when a previous Chairman provided free transport to an evening FA Cup replay at Aldershot when a number of never-seen-before young men came along just to make trouble. mind you we had to put up with coins being thrown at us by some of their so-called fans throughout the game.

Whilst it would be foolish of me to promise that there will be no trouble on Saturday I can assure you that our regular away supporters are well-behaved, if sometimes a little rowdy if the local ale is good!

Got a heads-up about this post on our own forum and just wanted to say it's a load of utter cobblers (it's clearly from someone looking to create trouble where there is none). See you all tomorrow for what is hopefully a cracking match.
