v Binfield

I couldn't make the game but listening to the post match interview it sounds like we put in a really poor performance.

These type of performances can happen whether it's in pre-season or a league game.

The main thing is the reaction you get in the next game so it's important for the players to step up to the mark and put in a good performance against Fulham on Wednesday.

Personally thought Neil was a bit harsh in the interview. Definitely wobbly at the back and gave them too much time on the ball but we had most of the chances in the second half and there were some really good performances - Gabe George's delivery into the box was consistently good, George Hunt obviously reads the game well and worked well with Aaron Kuhl in the first half. Joe Lawal was lively throughout and reminded me of Dan Roberts when he was first getting time with the team - he'll develop and his speed will trouble defenders.

'Wobbly at the back'

Was it 4-4-2 with Ryan Bird and Lee Togwell as our central defenders?

Early day's in pre- season but I think we're going to miss Sam Togwell's experience and leadership at the back.

To be 100% honest, I hope Neil and Jon are looking at our defensive players seriously as the current squad looks IMO excellent in midfield and attack but very questionable in defence. Freddie Grant and Josh Jackman are very good fullbacks, Sean Fraser will always do a job on a temporary basis in this league but isn't a starter obviously. Centreback is what worries me big time. Nis obviously has his health issues and unfortunately you never know when that maybe an issue, Guy has his work commitments that inevitably take him away for periods of time and IMO Ryan Bird isn't anywhere good enough to be a centreback at this level (or any level really).

I genuinely thought Nis would hang them up this summer similar to Sam and we would have 2 or 3 new centrebacks in the squad with Guy as support along with the 23's.

To be fair, I have been wrong plenty of times with Neil and Jon's approach to the squad and teams and I really hope I am this season, but if we are going with Nis, Guy and Ryan Bird as our centreback options I fear we maybe in for a tough season at the back.

3 at the back with Ryan the only one who played both halves.

Presumably the 3 at the back were Freddie Grant, Lee Togs and Ryan Bird?

1st half, yes. Second half, Nis, Lewis Pegg, Roman Smith (latter 2 U23s.)

God, im just glad football is back for us to be moaning again. Im not concerned, its pre-season freindlies. We play Binfield 9 times again and probably wouldnt lose, so relaxed about it. I remember previous years, we've had poor preseasons and then went on to have a great season. Not concerned, we have two of the best gaffers in the league, theyre no mugs.

Haven't seen a game yet but will be at Fulham game this coming Wed.....very interesting to see comments about Bird who was superb a couple of years back in that defence and kept named defenders out of the starting 11. I do agree that the warning signs are there though, i believe we have conceeded inside 5 mins in all three games so far?

Who knows if we will bring more in or if the club even have the funds to do such a thing.

Moaning or just an opinion?

No such thing as a friendly game of football or at least there shouldn't be.

Players should be playing to impress our managers to get themselves a place in the starting line-up.

Agree that pre-season games are for trying new formations/tactics and losing games might be a consequence of that.

Forget about the football just great to be back seeing everyone again after a year.

Good to do both.

Watching non league football is not just about the football it's about enjoying a day out meeting and chatting to friends and fellow supporters.

Of course winning and being successful is still crucially important.

Who was it who said

"Winning isn't everything but losing isn't anything!"
