GENNARO GATTUSO CREDENTIALS

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

In January 2010, Gennaro Gattuso opened a fish shop in his home town of Corigliano Calabro.

FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

Seven clubs in 8 years 3 months 20 days.

Maximum games as manager of a club : Pisa 86.

FIORENTINA

On 25 May 2021, Fiorentina announced the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach, effective from 1 July. However, on 17 June, just two weeks before the start of his contract, Gattuso and Fiorentina mutually rescinded the agreement due to a dispute between the two parties regarding player investment and the involvement of Gattuso's agent, Jorge Mendes.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR EXPERIENCE

On 15 February 2011, during Milan's Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspur, Gattuso pushed Tottenham coach Joe Jordan away by the throat during an incident on the sideline. Jordan was seen outside his allowed technical area exchanging words with Gattuso, in relation to the relatively physical game that had been played. After the game, after Gattuso had shaken hands with the Tottenham players, video footage showed him confronting Jordan and head-butting him after another exchange of words, before being restrained by both teammates and opponents. "I lost control. There is no excuse for what I did. I take my responsibilities for that", said the 33-year-old Gattuso, but he also said that Jordan had provoked him throughout the game but refused to say what his comments were. Newspapers, however, reported Joe Jordan had been using racist, offensive calls for much of the game by calling Gattuso a "[****!!****]ing Italian bastard" from the sidelines. The following day, it was announced that UEFA was looking at additional sanctions or punishment for Gattuso's actions against Jordan the previous day and that he had been charged with "gross unsporting conduct." Gattuso was then suspended for five
Champions League matches – one for yellow card accumulation, the other four for the incident with Jordan.
The Tottenham coach also received a touchline ban by UEFA for his involvement in the exchange.

HEALTH

Gennaro Gattuso suffers from an auto-immune disease named oculoar myasthenia. He opened up about his illness in late 2020.

FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE

"Gennaro Gattuso is not being considered as a candidate to become the new Tottenham manager.

The Italian, 43, left thhe manager's position at Fiorentina on Thursday, 23 days after being appointed.

The prospect of him joining Spurs prompted a fan protest, which was communicated to the club by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporter Trust.

The club had not commented on Gattuso but it is understood they are now looking elsewhere."

Perhaps Daniel Levy will appoint the National League Board to find a successor to Jose Mourinho!

What a fiasco this whole saga is. Never known anything like it. Perhaps Spurs make money from all these press reports and that is why they keep chopping and changing. It's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with, as ENIC love monetary gain and are not usually haphazard in business dealings.

The link with Gennaro Gattusa was the pits. I wondered if this was Daniel Levy on a wind up with Tottenham fans who have been slagging him off, as some sort of revenge/retribution.

Can see Spurs ending up with Eddie Howe or Graham Potter, which I don't think is a bad move to be honest! Not a Spurs fan but I'd rather have one of those 2 than some of the names being touted around.

The only three British managers in the top fifteen of the bookies odds for the next Tottenham Hotspur manager are 1st Graham Potter, 6th Steven Gerrard and 15th Eddie Howe.

I thought Erik Ten Hag at Ajax looked a good appointment but he's another one that looks unlikely. I don't know why they don't just appoint Jurgen Klinsmann for a year [unless he is incredibly successful] as the Tottenham fans would see him as someone close to their heart having played for the club in two stints, and he says he wants the job, and is also free to take it so it's not like they would have to pay compensation to a club for a manager's release.

Been told by a reliable source that its very likely to be Nuno Espirito Santo now

He's still in third place with the bookies behind Graham Potter in first and Roberto Martinez in second whose management record with Belgium is :-
03.08.16 - Present Played 35  26-6-3 Win rate 74.29%
A bit of that would go down well with Tottenham!
Belgium v Portugal in Euro 2020 is at 20.00 on Sunday 27th June.

I'm not convinced with Martinez... Belgium are the same as his Everton, great going forward and suspect defensively, only difference, he won't have Courtois at Spurs if he ends up there. Martinez would be great for a season then it would begin to unravel.

That would be great for Tottenham ... a whole season before it begins to unravel!!!

It would make some sense if it was going to be a someone managing a Euro’s nation & not being disclosed until that nation is knocked out of the tournament.

Steven Gerrard has suddenly zoomed into second place with the bookies.

Cannot for life of me ever see Steven Gerrard managing Spurs.

He'll just wait until the Liverpool job becomes available.

A few months at Tottenham Hotspur getting Premier League management experience before becoming manager of Liverpool could be useful for him.

The latest odds :-

Next Tottenham manager - Sky Bet odds

  • Graham Potter - 9/4
  • Steven Gerrard - 3/1
  • Nuno Espirito Santo - 4/1
  • Roberto Martinez - 6/1
  • Erik ten Hag - 7/1
  • Ernesto Valverde - 10/1

I agree with you about Roberto Martinez. I would rather have Eddie Howe, Steven Gerrard, Nuno Santo or Graham Potter than him.

I'm surprised Rafa Benitez hasn't been interviewed, given his record and experience. Whoever gets the job, will have their work cut out having an Italian director of football over them, and Daniel Levy poking his nose in.

I don't know about Steven Gerrard managing Spurs but he does need to prove himself managing in the Premier League with a club before he's likely to manage Liverpool.

Not sure about that.

Steven Gerrard is a legend at Liverpool and I'm sure the fans will want him.

If he does the same next season at Rangers I'm sure he'll be one of the favorites to take over from Klopp regardless of his lack of premiership credentials.

I think managing Belgium is slightly different to managing Spurs.

It doesn't matter who's in charge if we don't get rid of the dead wood i.e. Aurier, Sanchez, Dier, Docherty, Davies etc. and replace them with some decent players Spurs are going nowhere.

As we haven't got any Slough squad news, RR, what Spurs players would you get rid of?

I would sell Harry Kane this season, as he will be another year older next season, and he will go for the best price this time around. I would get rid of Kane, Aurier, Ali, Dier, Doherty,Sissoko,Winks and Lamela. And let Sanchez or Alderweireld, and Davies go in the next transfer window, or next season.

And bring a new goalkeeper in to vie for the top spot with Hugo Loris.

All the ones you've mentioned but I would let Sanchez and Alderweireld go now.

Not sure who scouted Aurier, Sanchez and Doherty but whoever it was should also go  ?

I think Loris is not the keeper he was but with a better defense in front of him he's still good enough.
