Jack Turner and Sam Togwell depart the Rebels

Recommended Posts

Really sad to lose Jack he is a fantastic keeper , be hard to replace. For Sam it’s a really tough decision to get right when to call it a day and really respect he has made it now. Again he will be tough to replace as his leadership and higher league experience have been vital for us.
Thanks to both of them for their service to Slough. Always welcome for a drink in the bar at Arbor Park .

Good luck to both of them. As has already been said they have both been excellent for Slough. Big gaps to fill with them leaving and neither will be easy to replace with the same quality but on the other hand, our squad needs a revamp and I'm looking forward to seeing what players we manage to sign.

heard a rumour about jack a little while back, and thought for a little while it would not long before sam called it a day not in any way by his performance on the field just thought he had been playing a long time and at a high level just takes it out of you what with the present situation in the world tends to put things into perspective , sorry to see them both go and good luck to both of them in their future endevours

Yeah there was always going to be changes as a number of players have been at the club for a good time now (great - love the stability and loyalty), and none of us are getting any younger (but maybe Sue is!), so it is not unexpected that there will be some changes.

I also think this last year away from football and the changes Covid has imposed has made a lot of people revisit their priorities and what they want from life.

Both Jack and Sam's names will be muttered positively on the Slough Town terraces for many a year, and a thank you to them both is more than deserved.

Looking forward, I am sure Jon (and Neil) will have already lined up potential replacements.

As for keepers, the lad from the U23 is one option, Mark Scott – would love to see him back, is Big Nose the old Chesham keeper still playing?  Trent is an option?!?! And of course Jamie Jackson would always like to add another decade to his record!

Looking forward to the new season and it looks like it will be possible to have a crowd back in the ground – lots of singing to catch up on!

Looking at the keeper situation, yes we do have the under 23's keeper as an option but not sure it would be fair to bung a young lad who's inexperienced and still learning his trade into the firing line. As far as Jacko is concerned he's already stated on social media that he's not interested in a return to the rebels.

I think we do have a massive problem in recruiting a keeper whose good enough to follow in the footsteps of Jack Turner. At this level I would say the majority of the best keepers are at or will look to join the clubs who can offer them the top money. Perhaps our new scouting system will unearth a gem but again this could take time.

I think a mini squad rebuild was on the cards and finding out who our new recruits will be all adds to the excitement in the build up to the new season.

Hi all, hope everyone is keeping well!

To save too much speculation on the keeper front I’m happy to give a “forum exclusive” and tell you that we will be announcing our new keeper on Tuesday, after the social media boycott ends, and it’s someone very much proven at this level and one that we are delighted to get on board.

This will be part of a wider announcement where we’ll provide an update on a few other incomings.

Sounds like excellent news Unders.

Thanks for updating us with this info.

I thought it might be Jonathan North. A great signing in my opinion. As a player to fill in for Jack's departure,we couldn't have got a better replacement, although I have to add I've not seen him play for a couple of years so I'm basing my view on his solid displays for Wealdstone, when he was noted for being one of the best goalkeepers around.

Tom Derry I know little about but he sounds/looks impressive going by what Bakes and Unders said on the interview, and a few video goal clips I just watched from his Braintree matches. We've been crying out for another good forward for awhile so let's hope we've found one.

Having Matt Lench and Scott Davies back is another good call. Matt is a class player at our level and can be instrumental in a lot of our best play. Scott is now such an experienced wise head, that as a player for our squad we have a great asset to aid the first team and help the under 23's develop, what's not to like?

I just wish we had a Slough match with a crowd this week ! ??

Not one for me to judge, I wouldn't know about these things, but Tom Derry is apparently Britain's most swiped player on Tinder fact fans.

On one of Tom's photo's he looks remarkably like Mark Nisbet. Our team looks more like a bunch of male models touting for a job on a reality show like Love Island.

Myself being no oil painting I can only look on with jealousy but it got me thinking about all the ugly players that used to play football !

I remember one of my favourite northern Conference strikers, who looked like he had been beaten around the head with a frying pan, and a podgy southern midfielder who looked like a bulldog chewing a wasp, and lot's of strikers with comb over's.

What's happening to our great game?  ha ha ha !

Really pleased with the signing of both Tom Derry and Jonathan North.

Not only good experienced players at this level but reportedly both come with the ambition and character to fit in well with our squad.

Also delighted that the prodigal son Lenchy has returned to his spiritual home and the return of Scott Davies can only be a plus for the season ahead.

Nothing on his twitter page so probably not.

Early days, plenty of time for him to find a suitable club.

What are his realistic options? Havant and Eastleigh would be ideal for him but not sure if he’d be on their radar. Gosport Borough, Bognor, Worthing and maybe AFC Totton are the more likely destinations.

Havant and Eastleigh already have very good keepers so doubtful he'll end up at those clubs.

Dorking has been rumored but distance wise there's not a lot between travelling to Dorking or Slough.

I reckon he'll end up dropping down a level.
