Slough v Dartford (FA Trophy 2nd Round)

Leading 2-0 we had a great chance to progress but unfortunately we went to sleep for Dartford's first goal which let them back into the game and then proceeded to give away an unnecessary free kick just outside the area which allowed Jack Jebb to take a free kick that Jack Turner couldn't hold and it was 2-2.

On the game itself I thought we put in a good team performance for the majority of the game and deserved to be in front with a number of players putting in good performances.

Unfortunately we paid the price for a couple of lapses in concentration which on the night let Dartford off the hook.

Common themes which aren’t being eradicated. But it was a close match against one of the leagues favourites who have a far bigger squad and budget than us so hopefully we can take the positives but really work on our defensive side.

It’s actually frustrating we now enter another mini break (I think it’s our turn to miss a game) as I don’t think it helps when you’re trying to build confidence and get on a run. Next one is yet another tough one at a resurgent Oxford City.

Not that we played well (we didn't), but no way should we have lost from that position, particularly against a side who hitherto hadn't looked bothered.

Embarrassing.

I must of watched a different game Nathan.

I can't agree that Dartford didn't look bothered, you only had to look at some of the flare ups and an animated Steve King on the touch line.

Agree that we shouldn't have lost the game at 2-0 up.

I thought we were relatively comfortable but conceding the first goal was always going to be crucial giving the momentum back to Dartford.

It's only a free weekend because it's the next round of the Trophy.

Poor old Truro having to go 300 miles to Concord Rangers for their midweek Trophy tie......

But it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch in advance of Truro City travelling and rearranged for Saturday 19th. December.

Probably shouldn't admit to this on here as it will do nothing for my "street cred" , ( what street cred ? ! ) , but as someone who went to the pictures with my wife to see the film "Love Actually " when it first came out and has seen it every Christmas since at home on DVD, I thought Ade's "skit" before kick off was brilliant. After this admission I'd better go off and be       " Alone again.....naturally".

Not sure when it will go up, but was done! Plenty of positives from last night and thought we were back to what we expect from one of our teams (and one that has been backed up by a number of people I have spoken to who watched the game), and with others coming back from injury shortly, we will put some wins together, ps not every goal conceded is a mistake, sometimes a team can score a good goal.

There was no defensive lapse or mistake last night (in fact we were excellent defensively last night), they scored a good goal against the run of play, and momentum swung their way, and they scored from a good free kick which fell to them on the rebound, personally happy we did not lose the game after 90 minutes as sometimes that can happen when you get pegged back with 10 plus to go, however we regrouped and went again.

Penalties can go either way, we were one goal away from going through, however no blame attached to Louis or Josh missing penalties, as much better players than them have missed.

Will we ever have a run in the Trophy again?!?! I'd rather have a run at getting to Wembley than making the play offs to be honest. We are not equipped to surviving yet in the National League should we ever get promoted so have a run at the Trophy instead, or is it that the Trophy has lost its appeal like the FA Cup, to me it hasn't, surely we'd love the chance of a day out at Wembley, nothing will ever beat that season we got to the semi finals under McDermott.

Would love to CR, however our record in the trophy at Slough has been poor, and even as a player I never had a run in it....

In recent years it took a back seat more so when we had the FA Cup runs due to the backlog of games, but last two years we have drawn out teams from our league, and penalties have been the reason for exit, what with missed penalties in both games against Concord (away and at home when 2-1 up) and then last night!

It's not as if we've rested players in order to prioritize the league so not sure it's a case of play-offs or Trophy.
