Dartford v Slough

Always going to be hard this season with what’s going on in the world and financial restriction, preparing for games etc . Not just for us but other teams too. Aim this season to be in this league next season. That will be a good season imho. Then fingers crossed following year we go again.

Decent first half from us where we looked dangerous on the break without really testing the keeper.

Quite a few times in the first half we put ourselves in trouble either from poor distribution from Jack or playing the silly short ball from a goal kick.

Have to say that I don't think Jacks kicking/distribution has been up to his normal high standard so far this season.

The start of the second half was a bit of a disaster for us.

IMO both Dartfords goals were preventable.

The first goal came out of nothing when Jack Barham was on the byline going nowhere when he was allowed to wriggle free and put a cross into the six yard box for the first goal.

Dartford's second goal came about when a player was facing the corner flag again going nowhere when Sean Fraser needlessly fouled him. From the resulting free kick into the 6 yard box they scored their second goal.

Apart from the two goals conceded I thought we played ok against a team pushing for the title.

As usual we showed plenty of effort and fighting spirit, kept pushing forward and with a bit of luck could have got something from the game.

Have to disagree with this assesment RR. Today our plan seemed to be hoof the ball up to Dan Roberts and hope for the best. We had plenty of possession, but like last week I can't recall any meaningful shot on target.

I don't think luck has much to do with it as we've clearly lost something we've had in abundance for the past few years. Just goes to show how good we've had it - I think this is the first time we've lost four on the bounce under Bakes & Unders?

Who played where today ie line-up positions?

On the Slough Twitter it said Slough hit the post and had a shot from Warren Harris cleared off the Dartford line and a Dan Roberts shot was saved well by the Dartford keeper. On the Dartford twitter, it said Slough had plenty of possession but the final ball from us was awful. What's the truth?

Final ball was poor from us but we had few chances and limited them to a few, Hodges hit the crossbar at 1/0 and Wazza did brilliantly to squeeze between keeper and defender to poke ball goal wards but it lacked pace and was cleared off line,

First half we defended really well and lots of organising, encouragement and leadership but 2nd half for 6 minutes we switched off and it cost us

I think Neil in his post match comments has accurately honed in on the main problem the Rebels have at present  The confidence has drained and that leads to the hesitancy and unforced errors common at present  We aren't  a bad side We are a good side having a few addressable problems

Remember it was only last month we put the league leaders out of the FA Cup on their own ground.

I'm not really sure it's just 'switching off' or 'short on confidence'.

When an opposing player is by the corner flag and facing it and one of our players just dives in and fouls him needlessly it's just rank bad play.

Again when an oppo player is on the by line and manages to get past players and set up a goal, again it's just bad defensive play.

Again without those we would have got something from the game.

Our formation looked like it was 5-3-2.

The back line being Josh Jackman and Sean Fraser as our two full backs with Nis, Sam and Guy as our 3 center backs.

Lee Togs, Aaron Kuhl and Hodges in midfield and Malachi Linton and Dan Roberts up front.

Can't remember when Dan Roberts hit the post but Warren Harris had one cleared off the line late on after they had a man sent off.

For me our best player was Paul Hodges.

Understandable that Bakes [and Unders] will be frustrated losing 4 on the bounce but lets put it into perspective in that we've lost against one of the best teams in the division and had Guy Hollis and Mark Nisbet playing their first full league game today. To go in 0-0 at half time was a fair showing in my book and it sounds like we had chances to snatch something from the game. Another time we might of done.

What puzzled me was why Matt Lench was on the bench today?  To me he makes the Rebels tick and should play against the best teams, as most of our best lead up play comes from him. IMO he should be in our centre midfield, whether we play 2 or 3 in there. I thought leaving him out was a strange move. Apart from that I can't say the result is anything to lose sleep about. I will be more bothered if we don't get anything against Chippenham.

I've not seen Aaron Kuhl play properly but wonder if we may be better to add some experience/steel into our central midfield, as Reading Rebel alluded to last week to halt this run of results. The few minutes I've seen of Aaron Kuhl, he looks a good player on the ball and busy around the field but he may suit a winning team rather than a team that needs to grind out a few results. I would go back to a few of our old guard to stop this rot. Doesn't have to be forever, just till we get a couple of wins under our belt. Max Worsfold was obviously a big miss as well today, let's hope he's fit for the next game, too.

The oppo player who got past players and set up the goal might deserve some credit, though. No defence stops everything.

It seems Sean Fraser was the left back. Perhaps not being a position that he's comfortable with, led to him making this reckless foul, or was he at right back? !

Yes the opposition player did well but it was still a poor bit of defending.

Sean played right back with Josh on the left.

Perhaps Unders is studying Jose Mourinho's management of the Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City match : Shots 4-22; shots on target 2-5; corners 0-10.

But it's goals that matter : 2-0!

I think these are the most astonishing match statistics I can ever remember.

They are the sort of statistics Tottenham teams of old would get ie loads of goal chances but coming away with nothing. They are not the statistics I favour [ I prefer 22 shots with 10 goals!] but if Jose Mourinho's team can win the title, I'll forgive him this season !

Those stats show that Spurs were much the better side where it counts.
