Maybe this stems back to the 70s, but I started watching the rebels in 86 with dad and going into conference days and I never saw Wycombe as 'hated / deadly' rivals (a bit OTT for me).

I saw them as the local rivals who had a good support and I always wanted to get one over on them.

Little Slough v Big Wycombe (so to speak). When Wycombe came to town, you knew you would get a big crowd (guess like when Man Utd / Liverpool comes to town).

Going to Wycombe away where a lot of fans were locked out prior to kick off, will always stick with me as one of THE best away days watching rebels. Yes, I know we lost, but our support that night, never saw as many rebels at away game. We were fantastic that night (and I was relieved I was one of the lucky ones to get in).... Just mind you !!!

I think if we had a game of importance against Wycombe Wanderers, then the old rivalries might re-surface but on signing players from Wycombe Wanderers, I can only see it as a win-win for Slough. Besides we've had players from them before. Off the top of my head now I can think of 3 very good players that came from the team in Bucks, which Slough benefitted from that of Mark West, Steve Whitby and to a lesser extent Simon Stapleton[ he was excellent until he put the Slough shirt on!] .

However, I still begrudge Slough selling Steve Thompson to our rivals up the road for a paltry transfer, given how influential and class he was to our team. They got a bargain, and we spent a lot of it on Colin Fielder, who failed to live up to his price tag !

On the subject of players who have played for The Rebels and Wycombe, what a signing our ‘dear friends’ have made with Garath McCleary joining them today!!! Still a quality championship performer who, if he can stay injury free, will be huge for them this season!!!

I would not have an issue with that scenario to be honest. When I was in my teens and early 20’s I don’t mind admitting I hated Arsenal with a passion but that has mellowed over the years.

Some may not agree but I’m not quite sure you can compare the rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal who play at the same level and compete for Champs League and trophies (unsuccessfully I know!) every season with the rivalry we have with Wycombe who play 4 levels above us. Obviously I respect the history and know that in days gone by the two clubs were conference rivals but I would be very surprised if any Slough fans held that against a young 19 year old who is coming in to help us while learning his trade in senior football.

Can't compare currently but for hose of us who've been rebels for 50 years they have been the main rivals (B&B, Isthmian League as well as conference days.) That said there has always been transfer traffic between the clubs without any bad feeling (except sadness particularly when Steve Thompson left.) For me it's an intense fun rivalry rather than bitter - I would always want to beat Wycombe but wish them well in most other circumstances. I don't think we've ever given a player grief who came from Wycombe (we always cheered a Westy goal for example.) Malachi will get nothing but support from me whilst in amber and blue.

I fondly recall Jimmy Jacobs, Kenny Wilson, Howard Kennedy, even Steve Hardwick!  And I really don't like Wycombe!

Hi Rebellier.

" Fondly"  recall Steve Hardwick even with the prefix "even" before his name? ?

Ah well football is all about opinions isn't it ?

Would be very dull if we all thought the same !

By the way I have to say that I am delighted to see you have Micky Kiely listed as one of your favourite Slough Town players.

On that we both agree !

Micky Kiely was my first STFC hero. I even styled my hair like him at the time. I was 13.

I used to sit in the main stand back then and some old geezer always used to shout out "send for Feely!" whenever we missed a goal chance, but he didn't need to cos we had Kiely instead.

Micky Kiely certainly one of my favourite players.

Always considered Wycombe big rivals when at the same level, but since they left us behind and then we disappeared down the leagues that has changed. I do admit to watching them on occasion (not this season obviously) and have enjoyed doing so. Even bumped into Eddie Denton at one match!

Our biggest rivals are Maidenhead in my opinion and whilst I also occasionally visit York Road (when Slough aren't playing or I can't get to our game) I still consider that to be the case.

Supporters will always have different views to players & managers in this respect.

Ade keep up the good work with the commentaries, I'm grateful for the the service.

As a contemporary of Bernie's I can relate to this. It was/is Maidenhead for me, too. And after what happened in the summer of 1959 we generally got the better of any player movements between the two clubs until the last close season. That said, I can remember talking to supporters who still bore a grudge because Wycombe were elected to the Isthmian League ahead of Slough just after the First World War!

We are supposed to leave these old rivalries behind as we get older, become more mature and better able to appreciate the wider picture. As I once observed to a work colleague who is now a knight of the realm and a fully paid up member of the Great and the Good and got the response. "I still hate those f------g M-----m B-------s"

As to colours, of course it's amber and blue unless you need to deploy "yellow" to make the words of a song scan, as was certainly the case with the old Kop Choir in the 1960's.
