An FA commission have removed Nationwide Cionference club Barnet from the FA Trophy for fielding an ineligible player against Dover Athletic in the 3-2 Third Round victory at Underhill on January 10th.

The Dr Martens League Premier Division side were reinstated in the competition and go forward to play away to Forest Green Rovers on January 31st.

The commission recognised Barnet's "honesty" in revealing the breach of the rules as soon as they realised that Adam Campion had played for Aylesbury United in the First Round of the competition by waiving the costs of the commission and not imposing a fine.

Barnet were represented at the hour-long commission hearing by chief executive Andrew Adie, who contacted the FA as soon as he learned of the mistake five days after the game and accepted full responsibility and tendered his resignation, manager Martin Allen and Campion.

After the hearing Andrew Adie issued "an unreserved apology" to everyone connected with Barnet FC.

There is no right of appeal against the verdict and manager Allen said: "We received a fair hearing with the commission".

The manager added: "Andrew Adie held his hands up to a mistake. He told the players face-to-face what had happened and also made a public statement.

"It is obviously a big blow. The players put in the effort to beat Dover and it is a disappointment for them, for all supporters, the directors and myself.

"Since I have taken this job as manager I have had fantastic support every day from the chief executive. We have weekly meetings to discuss the playing budget, disciplinary matters, negotiation of contracts, equipment, just about everything I do I run over and talk with Andrew Adie.

"He has been a rock behind me and I specially admire a man who when he makes a mistake is big enough to hold his hands up and go publicly to face the music.

"At Barnet it is united we stand and united we fall".

While I know nothing whatsoever about Adam Camion, some footballers are not as clever as the managers who run the show, possibly not even clever enough to know about rules about being cup-tied.

Jane Campion once directed a film in which she told the story backwards. I am sure it would have been a very good film if it had been told in chronological order. Perhaps Adam Campion was inspired by this strange treatment of time.

allowing a team to get away with fielding an ineligable just because they report themselves would just cause more problems as some clubs would use it as a normal tactic,so well done by the football authorities when they stuck to the rules/laws for a change, lets hope they do the same with a certain players appeal and leave the ban as it is.
