Slough Town 2-1 Maidenhead

We finally won at York Road for the first time in a long time. Missed several good chances with Boot and Hodgey knowing they should have done better before a Steer shot was parried by the goalkeeper and headed into the net by Boot.

Should have probably gone in three-up at half time. Second half we started quite well, but Maidenhead began to control the game and Hale equalised from about three yards after Yaku set him up ( yes I read your text message Mr Hale if your reading this and no I did not enter you know where! )

I think every slough fan would agree they looked more likely to win it as our heads dropped a little, but we somehow weathered a ten-minute spell with Fozzy pulling off one excellent save.

The match then became more even and looked set to go to extra time until a cross from Murphy on the right missed about five players - seemed to hit Riddell on the knee and go in.

Decent match - probably just about deserved that...

I think you do us a disservice, Chris! That was as good and committed a performance that I have seen from a Slough side in a long, long time. And, coming on the back of that nonsense at Worthing, it's even more unbelievable.

Every player was 100% focused and put in one of those, 'thou shalt not pass' type performances. When they equalised, totally undeservedly, the heads could have dropped. But, they weathered the five minute spell of pressure and came back again.

Following a football team can often be crap. But, just occasionally, it can also be quite fantastic.

Fully deserved, although Maidenhead could have equalised right at the end if it were not for some desperate defending from Slough. Oh, it feels great to turn round and say to maidenhead: "You can't win it every year"! Not that we definitely will win it of course...... but we have prevented them from doing so........

Most enjoyable (for a change). Big hands for Steer, Murphy and Daly who I thought were outstanding along with Riddell for a much improved performance and of course THAT goal. The man will go down in folklore. Maidenhead were poor but I think a lot of that was down to the way we played and nullified most of their threat. Also, wasn't it nice to have a keeper who accepted a bit of banter with the fans rather than the old, annoying, ginger bloke? Anyway, hopefully this result can spur us on for Saturday, although we have our lucky charm now anyway in the backwards-printed Spencer shirt which I wore for the first time today. He may be missing in person but his message lives on. Long live the King!!!!!

Much improved performance from the team and goal king lee riddell. We were miles the better team in the first half and were unlucky to concede the equaliser. The most important thing is that we carry this form into the league. Come on you rebels.

Bloody typical, the game I couldn't make and the team perform better than they have done in a while. Just a quick questiom, did the Magpies put out a full-strength team? Reading the names of Yaku and Hale would suggest so and if so, it's a good result. WELL DONE REBELS at least a fraction of local pride is restored temporarily.

Winners of Marlow vs Bracknell at Home in the Semi Final. Any preference?

Given that we've not beaten Marlow this season I'd like to see them through so there is the opportunity of getting more than a solitary point from our encounters this season.

It was a full strength team - we've not enough players for a second string!

I wasn't there - thankfully - but from what I've been told you deserved it. Good luck in the next round.

Oh...and any truth in the rumours that Riddell hadn't been registered for 14 days as per Berks and Bucks rules? Don't wish to rain on the parade, but you know how officious B+B officials can be.

All the best for the rest of the season.

I would presume he has been registered longer as he has been around for some time but as Matt said, knowing Slough ..... If it is correct, then someone needs to be looking very closely at themselves among the Slough officials, as we had a similar problem a couple of years ago when Paul Holsgrove played in a different cup against Marlow (I think) having been cup tied before he joined Slough. Hopefully its just Maidenhead trying to find any reason they can to contest the victory but as its Slough, I'll wait and see!!!!!

Well done Keith, you've taken the match defeat in great spirit, something we could learn from a lot of the time! All the best for the rest of the season.

Marlow vs Bracknell is possibly being played next Tuesday so we should know who we face then.

As for Lee Riddell, he was registered with the club a long long time ago as he featured in the reserves cup final match so there is no problem regarding his registration Keith, but a good attempt none the less!

I thought whoever was playing down your right hand side was awful. Every time our left midfielder was on the ball all he had to do was knock the ball past him and run and he left him for dust. It was strange to play against a Maidenhead side who didn't perhaps know or understand the determination shown by sides in the past in trying to win the game.

Although I can understand it wasn't perhaps as important to you as it is to us, they did seem a bit half hearted in their efforts.

Firstly, well done Slough.

As i've also posted on our site my initial thought was to come on here and bemoan the referee, lack of sand on the pitch, crowds, dirty opposition players etc etc. Then I remembered that most of us are above that;-)

You outbattled and outplayed us for 3/4 of the match although you showed your first division finishing. A premier side would have been 4 up at half time. A premier side except us of course.

We were awful, definitely our worst performance of the season. Partly due to your teams workrate, partly due to our lack of interest. It seemed a strange reversal as your lot normally show as much effort, passion and commuitment as our lot did.

Anyway, I hope the Riddell thing is a red herring as we've plenty of other mathces to play and only a painfully thin squad.

Off the pitch I took it as a backhanded compliment that your lot celebrated so wildly at the final whistle. It made me realise how much times have changed. Even more so to read the complimentary remarks on our forum about our ground and facilities. They're not the best but they're improving. Perhaps that has hit home to some of your fans, even more now you have to play at that toilet Slag Meadow.

Good luck for the rest of the season although I don't mean any disrespect when I say that I hope we don't meet in a league game next season. We HAVE to make that top 13, although we'll have to do a damn sight better than Tuesday to do so.
