Dorking v Slough

I don’t think it needs repeating because I’m sure the vast percentage of our fans are aware of our financial limitations especially in this climate. I personally would be happy finishing comfortably mid table and possibly having a little run in the cups. I’m not even considering the play offs although it’s of course possible but I don’t think any of us should be expecting it. Surely all clubs will find out this week regarding the grant money otherwise it’s approaching 3 weeks which is beyond a joke.

I think this is one of those ‘Count your blessings’ moments.

We dont have a rich Chairman - GOOD he cant stop funding us and leave us in the lurch

We dont own our own Ground. - Good no-one can suggest mortgaging it to buy a knackered ex pro!

We dont have a Big Squad - Good ,if we cant get people in we cant afford a big wage bill

We dont have a loudmouth manager demanding more funds  as the only way forward - Good .see all of the above.

Neil and Jon along with the club will do the best they can with what is prudently available . Whatever happens with this lockdown we will be back at Arbour Park someday watching Slough sides play in a reasonable level of Non League Football. Not every fan can say that about their team , and not so long ago neither could we !

Count them all!

Back to the game, I just watched the highlights Dorking have put up on their twitter. I must say the first two goals were real soft to concede. Birdy gets swatted away for the first and Sam Togwell could have done better, and the second the marking at the corner was non-existent as they all just ran towards the ball!

Good post that Stan ?. Give it another 6 months and I can see some teams really struggling as they haven't cut their cloth accordingly.

I make you spot on with your view of the first two goals we conceded.

Having said that it's not the norm for us to concede like that but it happens to the best.

Not all Chairmen leave clubs in the lurch.

I would say the vast majority are sensible with their funding of clubs.

Personally I would like to have a Chairman at Slough who had a few bob but obviously it has to be the right man who would always put the club first.

In a way I find it surprising that the club can’t attract investors or a ‘Chairperson’ who has funds to invest as on paper the club is an attractive proposition. But I guess the fact we don’t own our ground could be the reason why the apparent lack of interest. None of us would want a Tamplin or owner that’s irresponsible just someone ideally who’s a fan or at least has a passion for football and who’s willing to put a decent amount of money in to make us properly competitive.

I'd say most definitely the reason is that we don't own our ground.

This is probably a good thing because you wouldn't want someone coming in that's only interested in what assets a clubs got rather than as you say has a passion for football.

I think a lot of people seem to forget that this is a season of survival.

The financial situation is STILL not clear.

A larger than normal number of teams will not finish the season.

And we are not a team with a rich chairman.

I predict at the end of the season - even if it gets that far, that the structure of non-league will require a major restructuring due to the number of clubs which WILL go bust.

Therefore a cautious approach by the managers to keeping well within budgets and not splashing the cash which they don't have on an expensive "20-25 goal scorer" is wise.

I don't care if we have Lee Togwell up front, we will win and draw enough games to survive - sadly enough other teams will fall by the wayside for us to stay up.

This season is different and needs a different approach.

agreed totally.

That is why I wasn't overly disappointed we didn't go up via play offs. Of course, Id love to be watching us in the conference again like many years ago, but realistically, the preparation (that we would have needed and sure the gaffers would have put in) wouldnt have been ideal for Neil and Jon with all this uncertainty going on.

Touch wood, get this season over, stay in the league and hopefully next season things would be more clearer and not so rushed etc.....

A lot of clubs will struggle, as long as I have my STFC next season fighting fit, ill be happy.

I have been in hospital thanks to another minor stroke, plus upgraded my computer system now that i can only get out an about when friends assist.

So it's nice to catch up !

I don't think Marc would ever 'abandon ship'. Yes  -  He's outspoken. I've known him a long time and he's built Wanderers in a comparitively  short time.

Hello Big J R, sorry to hear your news.

I hope you are feeling OK now and getting your health back to normal.

I agree. Because Marc White has built the club up from scratch he is very unlikely to abandon ship without the necessary safeguards in place that will ensure the future for Dorking.

I would say the majority of Chairmen are good ones, as usual it's the minority who are in it for their self interest and not the clubs.
