Squad update

Excellent news that two of our under 23's have signed NL forms and will travel with the squad tomorrow.

Also good news that we've signed Ollie McCoy.

No more mention of the trialist who I thought did ok.

Having said that we are more than well covered in the midfield area so any new signing would have to have added something different/extra to the side.

Agree, I have just been looking over our now complete squad and we are looking good, especially in the midfield area.

I think we will probably play 4-5-1 given the talent we have to choose from in midfield but i wouldn't like to have to pick on who misses out

Do you mean 4-5-1 for the Dartford game? I hope not, too negative before we've even kicked a ball. First half I might keep it tight but sod 4-5-1, we need to get at Dartford.

With Dan Roberts presumably still not 100% over his injury, away from home and up against a very good team I'd say we're almost certain to go with one up front.

Penalties is my prediction.

That's good news, don't we just love penalties  ?

But it is against Dartford.

Did you see their three penalties at Weymouth in the Play-off Final?

I don't know whether Dan Roberts will be fit but as it a one off cup game with no replay, why would we be so negative and play with one up front against a team as good as Dartford. I know we have an abundance of midfielders but this game I want Slough to have a right go at beating Dartford. We need goals. Ben Harris will start but I certainly wouldn't play him on his own up front. I hope our management spring a surprise with their formation.

I’m pretty sure I recall us playing 4-5-1 away to Dartford last season with Dan Roberts as a starting lone striker, replaced by Ben Harris late on. Didn’t seem particularly negative at the time, and we won 3-2.

Yes but we're playing them after coming off the back of a 0-3 loss to them and it's not like we are banging the goals in at the moment.

I can understand the notion of playing 4-5-1 in an away league game against a top side but this is a 90 minute game that goes to penalties if it finishes in a draw. For our first real match of the season, what message does a 4-5-1 say to our players? To me it is saying that Dartford are a better team and that we are worried about them so we are going to pack tightly in defence and midfield and try sneak a 1-0 with a quick break. I can't see us beating Dartford that way unless they are well below the standard they were setting at the end of the season.

I appreciate that 4-5-1 served us well last season but this is the start of a fresh season and our players should be well up for this match. I would even play three players up front for this game. Steve King wouldn't be expecting that.

3Spirit sorry to say your pre match previews chapter and verse of negativity. As a supporter travelling around the country my preview of every game before and during the game is of positivity and optimism we are going to win until the final whistle is blown.

I have no interest in the opposition who they have in there team what they did last week or season who cares.

Formations change during a game depending on what is happening anyway what you start with often is not the same as you end with.

What ever our team and formation I have optimism of us winning every game why spend all your money travelling with words supporting the team full of negativity.

SD, we ALL talk out of our arse about football at times but you're very much mistaken if you think my posts on this subject are negative. I want to win this game well, not sneak a goal and win but get at Dartford, not sit back and invite pressure but take them on. How's that negative?

It's a one off cup match, where Slough are the underdogs to my mind [and most knowledgeable non-league fans] so I want our management and team to be positive from the start and take our play to Dartford. What's wrong with saying that?

I've seen for myself how we play the 4-5-1 but I'm not a great fan of the shape. For this game I would want at least, two strikers from the off. That's not negative, that's exciting.

Does it really matter how we play or get the win as long as we do win?

Of course not but it would be nice if we can play well and win, for our first real match of the season  ! Would give us all a lift.

If we lose, we lose.  I'm not a bad loser.  I get more pissed off when our team use spoiling tactics, or fail to put in the necessary effort.

This is a football forum, for talking about football? !

Well we DID win, not with pretty football or even playing that well, but we dug in against one of the favourites for promotion (a club with a 22 man squad and seemingly bags of cash). I had privately thought we'd win this, mainly because we were the underdogs and we've done this before against the odds (e.g. Kettering, Kings Lynn, Sutton). Massive credit to managers and players.

Thought Aaron Kuhl stood out for us and Jack also with 3 great saves, but the whole side is due high praise.

That's also payback for the play off defeat!
