This should be a walk in the park for St Panteleimon shouldn't it:

There are no plans for midweek Division Two fixtures at present with full season's fixtures already released for Saturday's

No Premier Division fixtures were scheduled this week as it was a FA Cup midweek

Karen - Yes but there are Division One fixtures tonight and tomorrow, were you so certain that no Division One Club's would reach the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, it was a fairly good bet that New Salamis would even though they had drawn Colney Heath before you issued them.

How do we think this one will go, both teams could still be suffering the effects of disappointing FA Vase home exits on Saturday:

Scott Reynolds must have breathed a huge sigh of relief last night following a difficult pre-season and a disappointing home FA Vase defeat to Holmer Green on Saturday, a goal on the half hour mark from Chris Parr took the pressure off and Kyle Faulkner finally made it 2-0 on 77 minutes however Buckingham Athletic should have put the game to bed well before that against a slightly disappointing Amersham Town considering their very busy pre-season, goalkeeper Jake Edwards-Alley also saw red in stoppage time for dissent:

A groundhopper from another Forum was at McMullen Park last night, I wonder when Bedford last won their first two league matches of a campaign:

Bedford 2 Stotfold 0
SSM Div 1
McMullans Park
Admission: £6
Programme: None
Attendance: 60 h/c

Good track and trace in place, friendly welcome and an entertaining game in wet conditions.
Bedford took the lead on 8 minutes and always looked good on the break, Stotfold passed the ball well, neat build up play but little end product- from somewhere the Ref found over 10 minutes of injury time at the end of the first half and Bedford scored the second in the 9th minute of extra time played!
Second half, and Stotfold found their shooting boots but were denied a goal by some outstanding saves from the home keeper. The high pace of the game was kept up by both teams right to the end of the game, a good evenings entertainment.
Had walked round the ground before when watching Bedford Town, liked the home made feel to the set up - with a stand made from a portacabin/container with one of the side walls removed!

Wednesday, September 23rd

To Rowley Lane, a brisk twenty-five minute walk from Elstree & Borehamwood station, to see London Lions host Shefford Town & Campton, a team I hadn't seen before.

Lions are a strong side, and had a good pre-season, beating the likes of Hadley and Cockfosters, and were judged unlucky to lose their FA Cup tie at Step 5 Walthamstow, having twice taken the lead during the game.  STC, on the other hand, began their campaign with a 5-1 defeat at St Panteleimon, and so I was expecting to see a fairly straightforward home win.  On this most dismal of evenings, in appalling conditions, I was both surprised  and entertained.

Rain began falling a few minutes before kick-off, quickly became very heavy, and didn't let-up for over an hour, and yet despite this, I saw some good football from both sides.  Both keepers had work to do, and both sides could have scored a couple before Lions captain Landesberg bundled the ball home from a corner after 70 minutes.  I thought that this would decide it, but STC came back strongly and were awarded a penalty on 76 minutes, scored by McNamara, and a lively last fifteen minutes passed with both sides having chances to win it.  Lions will probably be disappointed at the result, but from this neutral's point of view, Shefford more than deserved a point.

Do Lions have enough to challenge St Panteleimon and New Salamis at the top ?  Probably not quite, but they aren't far away and are certainly one of the sides to watch, while STC, who probably wouldn't have chosen St P and Lions as their first two fixtures, can be pleased with their performance and should be looking forward to a good season.

Despite the rain, and it being unexpectedly cold, I had a fine evening, and still had time for a couple of late stiffeners in the Hart & Spool, in Borehamwood, on the final night of eleven pm closing.  Happy days.
