Your First Slough Town Match

28 September 1957-Slough Town 5 v 0 St Frideswides FA Amateur Cup. Pretty sure "Bernie Gogan" would have been there since I think my dad, who only went the once, spoke to his mum and dad.

KGB, just looked at our club archives and Bernie Gogans debut for Slough was in 1961.

As you say we played St Frideswides in 1957 winning 5-0.

Our goals were scored by Ken Driver (1) Roberts (3) and Morley (1).

John Watt,

midfield late eighties. Reserves manager eighties/early nineties good coaching younger reserve players. Also very useful sub for first team rarely started but never let us down.

Think he went to M/head, manager /coach?

I remember John Watt[can picture him in my head]  and can vaguely recall the name of Paul Waites but trying to remember my first ever Slough game is impossible. I know it was at the Dolphin stadium as a kid but I can't claim I was a regular fan, as I only got to see a couple[maybe three?] games there at most, and one of those featured Iver.

I started watching Slough regularly at Wexham Park, when I was about 20, I'm now 56 !

You could say I'm glutton for punishment ! ?

I put "Bernie Gogan"  in inverted commas since it was a reference to a long-standing, friend of mine who posts on the forum under that nom de plume. That said, I did also see the real Bernie Gogan make his debut for Slough at the old (soon to be even older) Champion Hill.

Yes KGB, sorry for the confusion.

I know 'Bernie Gogan', very nice chap to talk to.

First met him at Beaconsfield and I think we might have mentioned old Slough players and I mistakenly said is that 'the Bernie Gogan' who comes onto the forum and he said no it was him  :laugh(2):

Think he means me RR! I don't remember it tbh (too young!!), but if my Dad & Grandad were there then it's likely I was.

A lot more recent than most on here, but mine was Torquay in the FA Cup in 1993 - https://sloughtownfc.net/reports/3758

Don't remember a lot about it and don't think I saw many other games that season although did see some with loanee Robbie Peters playing. Became a regular for home games in 1994/95 under Dave Russell and had Andy Sayer and Neil Catlin as my favourite players of the time. Was a great trip down memory lane getting all the reports available from 1993-1995 written up recently.

I used to love FACup 1st round games at a packed Wexham park. Whatever people think / say about the ground, they were good days.

Loved getting out of my dads car in a jampacked car park (or parking in side streets if we couldn't get a spot), going through the turnstyles and seeing a lot more people there than normal.

Will always remember the segregated games fondly (Wycombe, Torquay, Cardiff, especially Reading 3-3).

It was lucky for the Slough fans the Millwall game was segregated.

I wouldn't say anything bad about the Wexham Park stadium, as it just seemed to create a great atmosphere whenever there was over 800 fans in it. Being so close to the pitch and the intimidacy of the stands all added to the magic I thought.

I would moan about the driving range, though, that was added on later, as believe it or not, I would find golf balls in my front garden which had gone through or over the nets, that were there to stop them ! I thought they should have built the driving range the other way around so the golf balls didn't go towards the Wexham Road.

3Spirit I mean.t was in a team that we were playing against.?.

I always remember the copper in the centre circle was looking to his left and right deciding the best direction to run when the Millwall supporters came running back from the hospital end where our supporters were clambering over the fence at half time it was a disgraceful day but must admit that was like a benny hill sketch.

Oh got my wires crossed SD, sorry about that.

Luckily I didn't live on the Wexham Road then, as some of the residents said that Millwall fans caused bother outside some of their homes.

I  am pretty much a newbie

My first match was away to Daventry five or six years ago

Daventry equalised in the last seconds of injury time

I was so frustrated because in that league they did not show or say how much injury time was to be played

Referee seemed to want to play on until they eventually scored

Did not go to Beaconsfield first home match was obviously against Hampton and Richmond at Arbour Park
