Friendlies

I know I'll be the odd exception[but what's new!] but I miss watching Slough's friendlies. I like to see new players and trialists and take in positional alterations/formations etc.

Will we actually be getting any information about how these games proceeded, on here, Twitter or the Slough Town FC website?  Anyone?

I would of gone to see S/S/S/Marine v Hungerford yesterday if fans were allowed missing these games.

Hungerford won 2 - 1

I'm with you 3spirit. I like to see how we're progressing with new signings, trialists, formations etc.

Again, as far as I can see other clubs are listing their pre-season friendlies so not sure why we are not.

We've not listed ours at Chesham, following a similar approach to Slough it seems (we haven't even announced the sides) as fans can't attend and the schedule is constantly changing it seem. Our game Saturday at Kings Langley was "announced" with match updates half hour before kick off by both clubs and 30 Langley fans still turned up to watch over the fence in that short period of time.

Think it's a sensible approach from clubs to avoid the wrathe of the authorities.

But playoff clubs wanted to be considered "elite" earlier in the summer so the playoffs could be played after being told step 2 wasn't elite football. Can't pick and choose when to be one side of the line or the other.

It was my understanding that the NL playoffs were not going to go ahead because they weren't considered to be "elite" football, which led to the campaigns for the playoffs to be played. Now that the NL is being considered "elite" it's having to wait longer for fans to return.

Like I said, you can't be on one side of the "elite" line with the EFL when you want playoffs to be played, and on the other side when it comes to the return of fans with the rest of non league. It's possible that the push for the playoffs by the 8 teams involved seems to now be disadvantageous to the whole of step 2.

Correct. NL clubs were not considered to be 'elite' but when the campaigns started they finally agreed, because of the interpretation of the word 'elite', that NL clubs were by definition 'elite' clubs.

That was to finish the season with the play-offs without supporters.

The scenario we have now is completely different where the survival for some clubs depends on supporters being allowed to attend games.

Unfortunately when it comes to supporter attendance the FA have lumped every club from the premiership down to NL steps 1-2 as 'elite' without what appears really thinking about the consequences for some clubs by doing that.

So in a nutshell, you're right that you can't one minute call yourself 'elite' and the the next you're not, the fault lies with the FA suits stipulating that every 'elite' club, as of now, cannot have supporters attending games.

There were 12 teams involved!

Yes, I was referring more to step 2 rather than the NL as a whole.

I don't blame the FA for being cautious and starting from the bottom where lower crowds are more common and easier to space out. Plus it's not just about the FA, all these things have to be signed off by government. I'm involved in the Scouts and the Scout Association cannot make its own decisions on re starting, it all has to go to government at every stage.
