Interesting observation that Maidenhead don't have as much history as Slough. Probably correct comparing on field achievements through history, but as a club they've been around a long time, still play at and own York Road an historic ground (irrespective of whether you like it or not!) and have been for a number of years in a higher league. than us. When our troubles from the Thorne era exploded they went in the opposite direction to us and that's the way it's stayed despite the gap narrowing a lot.

I will end up at York Road watching them at some point when I can't get to a Slough game and I will always regard George as "our" player, much like like I do with James Dobson.

Fair comment, Keith. I would say that they appear to have been well run for a period of years now since, like us, facing near extinction and that we have been playing catch-up. That said, old rivalries don't die altogether and he's the first established Slough player I can think of who's moved to Maidenhead to "better himself" since Terry Wise in 1963.

I don’t know anything about the history of the Club, but knew Vaughan Powell when I was a kid and thought both him & Gary Attrell moved from Slough to Maidenhead in the 80’s.

You may be right, but back then the move they made was hardly to better themselves!
