A familiar story last night at Haywood Way, see a match report, some photographs of the action and a post match interview with supremo Rob Sinclair:

A serious statement from the Club about the unfortunate delay in playing kit from the suppliers, something is clearly not right:

https://www.realbedford.com/news/club-statement-regarding-delays-from-macron-in-delivery-of-our-23/24-season-playing-kits

We regretfully report that we have sought legal counsel regarding the ongoing delays caused by our new kit supplier, Macron Hertfordshire, an authorised distributor of the Macron brand.

No doubt Macron have been sloppy but it seems incredibly late to be signing kit deals in June and july for a season starting on the 1st August. Most clubs even at that level would have it sorted it out during May at latest probably to be ready for August 1st.

The dust hasn't settled as yet at McMullen Park however a very disappointing afternoon which boss Rob Sinclair won't be best pleased about:

I'm quite surprised LondonEagle hasn't come on as yet to 'gloat' about the shock 4-1 defeat to St Panteleimon on Saturday especially with Bedford Town having started their campaign well under new boss Lee Bircham.

Perhaps I should be thankful that I was unable to watch the Real Bedford streaming match against St Panteliemon on Saturday as I kept   receiving the message unreachable.

Got no problem with the players, managers or fans, just find some of the Premier League stuff a bit OTT.  Also Town were dumped out of the FA Cup on Saturday,   Mind you there was a substantially bigger crowd next door at The Eyrie well over double that at McMullen Park. Seems hopes for crowds of over 500 at Real Bedford this season are a long way from fruition, they are basically stuck at last season's levels.

How do we see the encounter at McMullen Park going this afternoon, it certainly won't be a cake walk like in the last round against Rothwell Corinthians as Flackwell Heath have a good pedigree in the competition, in 2020/21 they reached the Quarter Final and beat Risborough Rangers 7-1 at Horsenden Road in the previous First Qualifying Round:

A very satisfying weekend all round with Real Bedford coming through a difficult looking FA Vase Second Qualifying Round tie at McMullen Park on Saturday against Combined Counties League Premier Division North Flackwell Heath and then Real Bedford Ladies trouncing a good St Albans City Ladies side 4-0 yesterday, also at McMullen Park. See a match report, the match programme and over eighty photographs from the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round tie courtesy of photographer Glenn Alcock, the draw for the First Round proper of the competition will be published shortly:

Real Bedford v Flackwell Heath

A groundhopper from another Forum was at the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round tie on Saturday and here is his complimentary version of events:

40 Sat 23/9 FA Vase Real Bedford 2 0 Flackwell Heath 221

Goals: Real Bedford (9 & 43 mins)
Ground: 2nd visit here this season, 1st on a Saturday
Pitch: green, lush and broad striped
Weather: chilly in the shade, cloudy, fresh and windy, 17 C at best in the sunshine
Travel:  - Miles: 96
Any Club which uses ‘Real’ as a prefix has got to play some decent football. Also, any Club forced to field their third choice goalkeeper is likely to regret it. Flackwell Heath’s nos.1 and 13 were both suspended for being sent off in the last three weeks. Luckily, their no.3 keeper was not at fault for either of the home team’s goals and performed no better or worse than any of his teammates. Additionally, ‘Real’ did play some decent football and won comfortably 2-0. Hereinafter, Real Bedford are referred to as ‘Real’, for 90 minutes a title deserved on merit.
Almost from the kick-off Real’s plans were disrupted by a lengthy injury break, an enforced substitution for what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder. Real scored within a couple of minutes of the restart. A long corner-kick was hooked in at the back. It didn’t look possible to score, but ball bounced through a ruck of players with the keeper unsighted. Three Real runs the length of the pitch, two were thwarted by last ditch tackles and the third was missed by everyone. Flackwell Heath low on shooting power, couldn’t shoot their way out of a paper bag. Real performing as a highly mobile unit and unshakable. F H defence all out of position, keeper out and delicately chipped over, by a master craftsman. F H we’re quite abysmal, as if they didn’t know what to do? Half-time 2-0.
Nothing from Flackwell Heath, they still haven’t woken up yet. F H gobsmacked to be behind, no plan B and thereafter not given a sniff. 75 mins for first F H shot on target, struck keeper’s legs, the next soared over the crossbar by the height of three double-decker buses. I can’t remember the last time I watched F H play so poorly. Real looked a real threat going forward. Real, no real height in their team, but they are quick, intensive and always ready to play. Real missed a few easy chances at the end, but they were tired. Shift done, an unexpected win for Real, but well deserved.
Lastly, a few words of praise for the Management and backroom staff at Real Bedford, who all work very hard dispensing their duties with great style. Chief Executive, Emma Firman was doing all the jobs, checking on her team, helping out anywhere it was needed and she’s only a ‘babe’. She wrote in the programme of her recent experiences with Women in Football Leadership course at the FA. Here on a Saturday afternoon at Grassroots football, she was displaying all the top qualities and taking her Club, higher and higher. Very impressive and I promised to drop in again before Christmas.
