'Go fund me' page

Recommended Posts

Weymouth have set up a 'Go fund me' page to help offset the costs involved in competing in the play-offs.

Manager Mark Molesey has been interviewed on Radio Solent saying that the costs involved to compete in the play-offs could financially cripple the club.

They have currently reached £3,810 of a 50k target.

So my question is are we planning to set up a 'go fund me page' to help with the costs of competing in the play-offs?

The 50k target figure Weymouth are quoting does sound a bit on the high side.

Looking at their web site they are quoted as saying that this figure has come from the League and Government.

Look what happened the last time we all took the league and ‘government’s’ word...

Even if we only raise a few thousand it all helps and shows the club us fans care and want to play our part.

Within the last 24 hours Bath City have started their 'go fund me' page and currently 236 supporters have raised £16,000 towards a target of 35k.

The Weymouth total so far is £11,788 from 287 supporters after 8 days towards a target of 35k.

We are currently on £6,234 from 171 supporters after 3 days towards our target of 25k.

Bath are doing incentives for supporters who donate certain amounts of money and Weymouth, with other things in the pipeline, are currently doing a one off semi final replica shirt with supporters names printed on the shirt.

I think we have made a good steady start and as has been stated we have plans in the pipeline to help the club achieve our target.

Our quarter final play-off game with Dartford is now less than 2 weeks away and our 'GoFundMe' page is currently just short of 10k which is way short of our target of 25k.

To help achieve our target the club mentioned we had other plans in the pipe line to help achieve our target.

Just wondered what these plans were and are they still going to happen.

I read on another clubs web-site that their GOFUNDME target was based on a five week play-off period, three weeks leading in to the first match, and then the additional matches in week 4 & week 5.

If this was the same for us, then presumably about £15k would be required to fully fund the first match, and it would be great if this was achieved by the 18th July.

Trouble is if you only reach the required 15k to play the first game and you then progress further to the semi final and final you then have to hope you can raise the extra funds required.

We are therefore calling on our supporters and local businesses to help at this critical time.

£9,727 has been received so far from 243 donations :-

Personal              243
Local businesses    0 (unless any of the anonymous donations were business)
I have not made my donation yet but it will be made well before the Dartford match.

Not sure we can rely on businesses with way they've been affected by the virus.
