Unfortunately the 2020/21 SSML season has been unceremoniously 'curtailed' as was officially announced by the FA last Wednesday that 'Steps 3-6 will be curtailed' although, in the case of the Herts Senior County League, who appeared to 'jump the gun' on Thursday, it has already been declared null and void with no promotion or relegation taking place, the League are preparing to run an end of season League Cup competition for all its Divisions. That includes Division Two where Baldock Town Reserves campaign is sadly at a premature conclusion after just eight League fixtures with their last outing on Saturday 12 December when going down heavily 5-1 at high flying and unbeaten Hemel Hempstead Rovers. That followed more than a five week lay off between 28 October and 5 December without kicking a ball in anger for the frustrated Reserve side, the First Team also last tasted action on 12 December with a 2-0 win at Tring Athletic however prior to that Rob Bates's men hadn't played since 3 November when losing 1-0 to Newport Pagnell Town at Willen Road:

Further to the announcement by the Herts Senior County League last Thursday where they declared their season null and void, here is an update from League Secretary Scott Patmore who you may have heard talking to Ollie Bayliss on the BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show on Sunday. I wonder whether the SSML will be doing something similar in arranging a cup competition during April and early May:

The draw for the end of season Herts Senior County League Division Two Cup competition was made recently which sees Baldock Town Reserves in a three team group with Letchworth Garden City Reserves and Oxhey Reserves, not to be confused with Oxhey Jets Development, there are four groups and the winners of each group go into a Semi Final. Baldock Town Reserves had yet to meet their two group opponents in League competition this season so should not have anything to fear despite both fixtures being away from home at the Pixmore Playing Field in Letchworth on Saturday 3 April, kick off 3.00pm, and at the Bushey Sports Club on Saturday 17 April, kick off 3.00pm. Unfortunately spectators are not allowed to attend however, presumably, it is possible to inconspicuously watch the two games from some vantage point if somebody so wishes:

Baldock Town Reserves have travelled to the Pixmore Playing Fields this afternoon (3 April) to take on Letchworth Garden City Eagles Reserves in the first of their Herts Senior County League Division Two Cup Group B fixtures, the game is unfortunately behind closed doors. Meanwhile the First team made the trip to Bell Close earlier this afternoon (pictured) for a friendly fixture and went down 3-1 to Leighton Town, they trailed 2-0 at the interval and pulled a goal back on 63 minutes through Charlie Rome before the hosts netted again on 81 minutes:

Some of you may have been wondering what has happened to Karen's 'competitor' Mike Godfrey who ran the interesting 'In The Stand' Blog which featured SSML Premier Division games, Mike had an affinity with Baldock Town where he was a matchday volunteer along with his wife and was also their programme editor. Anyway on Sunday 21 November, during the FA Vase Second Round tie with Hadley, Mike had a big bust up with the Baldock Town hierarchy at Hitchin Road and has now sadly walked away from the Club he loved, from his farewell messege below he appears to have been very harshly treated. Goodbye Mike and thanks for all the effort and hard work.
