SSML Managers

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to resurrect and post on this old thread from 2015, created by Rebadiah Hongfield, however it made for some interesting debate and who was the most charismatic Manager in the SSML at that time. Adam Fisher at Welwyn Garden City, Lee Judges at St Margaretsbury, Mick Vipond at Berkhamsted, Paul Halsey at Hoddesdon Town, Lee Bearman at Cranfield United, Ryan Thompson at London Colney and Mark Smith at Crawley Green were some names bandied about however back in the day almost every Club had a real character at the helm who didn't take themselves too seriously, unlike now:

Mick Vipond is pure class isn't he and I was initially a little surprised that he agreed to take the Assistant Manager's role at Pancake Lane this season, particularly having been unceremoniously sacked by the Club in 2009 before moving to Berkhamsted where he enjoyed ten successful years at Broadwater, however I gather he was more than happy to take a back seat for a change and work hand in hand with Matt Harding. Mick also managed at Hemel Hempstead Town, where he spent most of his playing career between 1975 and 1983, and Tring Town, he joined Berkhamsted when the new Club formed and immediately hit the ground sprinting, winning the SSML Division Two Championship in 2009/10 as well as the Division One Championship in 2010/11 before consolidating in the Premier Division each season until 2017/18 when gaining promotion to the Southern League Division One East, finishing second to Welwyn Garden City. Mick decided to finally call it a day at Broadwater at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and there wasn't a dry eye at the Club when he walked out of the door, he was given the honorary role of Club President for his achievements, particularly where getting the new Club off the ground was concerned in 2009 after Berkhamsted Town were sadly dissolved after ninety years in existence due to large outstanding debts:

The ex Barnsley FC, Leicester City FC and Northern Ireland defender I always rated him. He could chip in with some important goals that guy could.

Savagebee - I have no idea what Sean Devine is doing at the Lace Hill Sports & Community Centre, it's similar to when Clement Temile was Manager at Kentish Town isn't it albeit obviously not quite to that degree:

They have three managers ?

Yes, haven't you been reading the Eynesbury Rovers thread, Steve Kuhne, Ash Fuller and Dean Greygoose were handed the reins at Hall Road by Chairman Matt Plumb in January following the controversial departure of Mark Ducket who just cleared his desk and walked away after four years in charge without even letting Mr Plumb know. It took the beleaguered trio almost two months to get their first win at Edgware Town and then beat Biggleswade United 4-1 before the curtain came crashing down on the season, it's a shame because they had a home Huntingdonshire FA Senior Cup Semi Final the following week against St Ives Town which they most probably would have won:

Bovingdon - Standen left in the summer for Harpenden. Ryan Charles took over and departed quickly. A player then took the reigns before Andy Stratford who was in Viponds staff at Berko took over.

new Bradwell - manager is Rich Kelsall

Mursley - Anthony Lands hasn’t been manager for a while, his brother Jamie took over last season. He was replaced by reserve manager Mitch Toyer this season.

Munchkin - Thanks for the helpful update and I will amend the list for Division Two, Martin Standen is at The Eyrie now though as he couldn't resist joining Mark Ducket when he came calling:

The old Southall FC manager (2016 to 2018) Paul Palmer was a character and always up for a chat I liked him.

Savagebee - Yes, Paul took Southall to the FA Vase Quarter Final in 2017 didn't he, losing to Cleethorpes Town at Reynolds Field, were you there:

Well you would know wouldn't you, Gus Gulfer has taken over at New Salamis from Gaz Dauti who stood down last week and he will be ably assisted by Micky Leslie and Andrew Kouroushi. Gus has previously Managed at Barkingside, taking over from the legendary Matt Frew in May 2015, and brought former Welwyn Garden City supremo Rob Pattwell to the Club as his trusted assistant however Micky Leslie has always been his eyes and ears at a number of Club's, he left Barkingside at the end of the 2016/17 campaign. Gus's CV is as long as your arm and as a player he was with Cray Wanderers, Harlow Town and Thamesmead Town to name a few, his son Matt was with him at Barkingside as Club Captain and will possibly follow his Father to the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium at some point. One of Gus's closest friends and allies in football is, perhaps unsurprisingly, Tom Loizou, Haringey Borough's supremo for the last eleven seasons:
