Interview with Lee Togwell

I've enjoyed the three interviews so far [Matt,Manny + Lee] and it's good to get an insight on what goes on in training and behind the scenes.

I do, however, think the interviews are rather padded out with too much chat about the situation with the coronavirus/lockdown/league stalemate, and not enough questions about the players previous clubs/experiences in football ie youth teams/first clubs/memorable games/players they rate highly in the Conference South and other divisions/funniest events seen in football/a different position they would like to have a go at playing/the player they most admire in the squad/best players they've played against [now retired], a clever tactic a manager used, etc.

This isn't a dig at Ade , as I appreciate his efforts in this regard, and we are lucky to have his dedication to put these interviews on. He has done a very good job on the radio, and these interviews are a good idea and are an alright watch. I'm not expecting Ade to be Michael Parkinson, or the players to have the personality of Oliver Reed or David Niven but it would be good if we could have a bit more in depth football chat, now that we've succeeded in getting them online, in front of a camera and with a target audience.

I also understand players sitting on the fence, and not wanting to call out/rib certain players, as we ALL know 'what goes on, on tour, stays on tour' ! but the players do need to lighten up, as it's not like we want to know anything personal about a player.

And what's the point about keep repeating such an inane question as the 'duck thing'.  It's not funny and who in their right mind cares? !

So you don't want them to talk so much about the current situation, but you also complain about someone asking a question about something else (even if it is just a bit bizarre). I think it's quite amusing to see the players work their way through their answer.

I don’t think it’s right or fair to give any criticism for these interviews. People are taking time out to entertain us fans and give us an interesting insight into our club. So what if there’s one or two silly questions! I for one really appreciate these interviews and find them very informative and amusing and hopefully they’ll be a few more coming. Well done to all involved.

Glen, I agree with your comments.

I have listened to all three interviews today and enjoyed them all. I, for one, turn up to home games at 2.45 and leave at the final whistle after applauding the players for their performances, whether that it win, draw or lose. However, off the pitch, I know very little about the players.

The interviews give us an insight into why the players want to play the game and what motivates then to do so. It is interesting to know about what they do for a living, together with their highs and lows of their careers. Obviously some players are at the beginning of their playing career and have less experience and stories to tell, whilst others, for example Manny, may have only another 4-5 seasons left!!

What I think that many fans do not appreciate is that many players have full time jobs and have to fit in training nights and midweek games, especially away ones. I have often wondered what time they all arrived home after the infamous 5-4 away win at Merthyr and what time they had to get up for work the next day.

Thanks to Ade  for taking the time to arrange these (Good luck with the bakery job too) and I for one hope that there will be further interviews to come.

I never said I didn't enjoy the interviews.

I also never criticised the dedication and time Ade is putting in to bring these interviews to us.

I criticised the length of the interview, the lack of football related questions to the player and the absurd duck question.

If anything, I am saying the interviews could be shortened to say, half an hour, saving Ade, the player, and the viewer precious time.

For me, the opening introduction should still be there ie Hello Lee, how are you, is your family well etc and then the players reaction back to Ade but do we need to ask the player's thoughts on coronavirus and what he thinks will happen regarding the season? They don't know any more than we do, and it's stuff that will iron out itself regardless of what this player thinks.

I know the virus is a terrible thing, as we all do but to me, we are overloaded and bombarded with information about coronavirus every day and night on the television. Do we need to have it in a player interview as well?

Cut the pointless duck question out and ask something 'real'. So what is so bad about voicing these issues?

I think it’s entirely relevant - Coronavirus is the main issue on everyone’s minds at the moment and various non-league managers have given their thoughts on it, so why not the players too, especially as they will be the ones taking to the pitch when football restarts? It’s good to get their views both as footballers and human beings.

All content is good content for the club’s website and social media at the moment, and I’m grateful to Ade and also to FCVideo, who do a lot of work for us.

Remember Ade and the participating players are solely doing this for us the fans. Of course the virus is relevant, these interviews wouldn’t be happening if the virus wasn’t here! I just think if you had any negative thoughts on these interviews the sensible option would be to keep them to yourself and not let others know?

I can't see a problem with giving constructive opinions and suggestions on how the 'Ask Ade' interviews could be improved.

I'm sure Ade himself will welcome and be receptive to any opinions that are constructive that he thinks will improve his interviews.

I really enjoy these interviews.  Light hearted not too serious. How we prepare for matches and how committed our players are to the Slough shirt. Lee I think is the first to want to take on 10 Kings Lynn ducks made  me smile. Thanks to the players and management for taking part.

Firstly thanks for all the comments, it’s good to know you like the interviews, secondly, if you want me to ask certain questions please leave them on Twitter as I don’t look here very often, and as for the duck question, well most podcasts or interviews end with a boring question like, ‘what are you watching?  or ‘favourite band’  we just wanted to end it with something light hearted. Sorry Ade I don't do Twitter. Thanks for your response, though. A totally reasonable reply.

Here's 10 questions[ in parts]. Take your pick which ones you want to ask.

1. First club you played at? What position did you play? Who was you manager? Did you grasp any of his ideas?

2. Best manager you've played under [not including Bakes and Unders]?

3. How successful were you in youth football? Could you ever see yourself coaching kids? Or have you already?

4. Best player you've ever played with, in any of the teams you've been at before [but not the current Slough squad].

5. Funniest thing you've ever seen at a football match?

6.If an actor/comedic person[alive or dead] was going to play you [in your life story] who would you choose and why?

7. In the Professional game, what team do you support? And name the player you most rate/admire in your preferred team and why?

8. Name 3 non-league players, if you were manager of Slough Town FC, you would look to bring into the team and why? [It isn't about getting rid of any of our current squad/ or displacing their team mates].The question is designed to see their knowledge of the non league game,

9. What has impressed you most about Bakes and Unders as managers?

10.Apart from your Mum and Dad, who's been the best influence on your football career so far?

Hope that helps.

By the way I understand the notion of finishing on a light-hearted question but surely we can think of something better than the ridiculous duck question?

Just thought of one more.

Best goalkeeper/s you've seen play in the professional game, and the non-league game [not including Jack Turner]?

I am in the bar after the games and as said there maybe one or two players who will circle for a chat. Must be said the parents of the players are great to chat to as there support is 100% for the sons and they have a great affinity to the club. When we played Royston away in promotion year away it was raining at half time so went in the shelter said to guy next to me you must be pleased with how Royston have done and he said I.m Neil.s dad we had a good laugh but also Jon.s Guy.s Lenchy Gavin James Who I knew are all top guys.

It would be good to have some ex slough players being interviewed Gary Attrell always in the bar top guy he has plenty of stories Chalky White Terry Reardon are always about.                   Brian Mc Dermott ginger from non league to managing Reading @ Leeds
