Colney Heath Reserves are in Herts Senior County League Premier Division action again this evening (Wednesday) and entertain Hatfield Town, kick off 7.45pm, hopefully they can follow in the footsteps of the First team who won an exciting SSML Premier Division encounter at Arlesey Town last night however Hatfield Town will be a tough nut to crack if their recent 1-0 win at Letchworth Garden City Eagles is anything to go by:

A reasonably good afternoon for Colney Heath, the Reserve side picked up a hard fought point at Sandridge Rovers in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division, drawing 0-0, the First team finally overcame a dogged Step 6 Wivenhoe Town on penalties after also drawing 0-0 in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round at the Recreation Ground and will now travel to the winners of tomorrow's Holland FC v Enfield FC tie.

Colney Heath will visit Holland FC in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round following their 2-0 win over Enfield on Sunday, the game will be played at Holland's Dulwich Road home on Saturday 10 October. Meanwhile the Reserve team beat Herts Senior County League Division One Hinton 2-0 last night (Tuesday) in a Aubrey Cup First Round tie at the Recreation Ground, Jack Woods with a penalty and Stef Geraldes scored the goals, see YouTube highlights below, I gather they will now entertain Lemsford or Hatfield Athletic in the Second Round who meet on Saturday and will also be lower division opposition:

Having narrowly beaten Baldock Town 2-1 on Saturday, Colney Heath were in SSML Premier Division action again this evening at a desolate Brache (pictured) against Crawley Green and won 3-2 to retain their 100% League record so far, George Devine with a brace and Will McClelland netted in what was a good performance despite going a goal down on 37 minutes. The Reserve team weren't in action on Saturday as they played their Aubrey Cup First Round tie with Hinton last Tuesday and they now know their Second Round opponents who will be Second Division Lemsford at the Recreation Ground. This Saturday (3 October) the Reserves travel to Wingate & Finchley Development in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division whilst the First team entertain Dunstable Town.

Colney Heath Reserves were in Herts Senior County League Premier Division action this afternoon at the Recreation Ground against Letchworth Garden City Eagles, a groundhopper from another Forum was at the game which the visitors, who have started the season dreadfully by their standards, won 4-1, the sides meet again in the League next Saturday (31 October ) at the Pixmore Playing Fields. Unlike the First team Colney Heath Reserves haven't been having the best of times of late and, since disposing of lowly Hinton in an Aubrey Cup First Round tie, have lost their last four League fixtures including this afternoon and a 6-1 mauling at Garden Walk against high flying Royston Town Reserves:

Colney Heath Reserves 1 - 4 Letchworth Garden City Eagles HT 1 - 3
Recreation Ground
Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier (Step 7)
Admission £5/3, including a voucher for a free drink from the bar.
Attendance est. HC 27, and 1 dog who enjoyed sitting on the window sill of the committee room looking out.
Colney Heath is situated just to the East of the A1M, unfortunately the slip road from the motorway was closed, meaning a slightly more circuitous route around Hatfield, and through Welham Green. The Recreation ground has it's own carpark, which is through the council run car park. Several picnic tables are outside the club house, that has a central door, with the bar entrance to the left and and committee room to the right. The paper track and trace was in this vestibule with one (of many scattered around) hand sanitisers. There are some smaller pitches on the far side of the ground. Behind the 2 dugouts is a small cordoned off childrens play area.

Colney Heath don't have the greatest of FA Cup and FA Vase records do they, never progressing beyond the Second Qualifying Round in the FA Cup and the Third Round in the FA Vase. I can't recall why the Club 'sat out' the FA Cup in 2015/16 and 2016/17 and the FA Vase in 2015/16:

I see that the amazing painter Sam Edwards, who was recently featured on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show, has done Colney Heath's Recreation Ground where the Club took up residence in 1952, having previously played locally at the Meadow, the Warren, and Fuzzen Field since their formation in 1907. The move to the Recreation Ground in 1952 coincided with joining the Herts Senior County League where they remained until the 2000/01 campaign when joining the SSML Senior Division on promotion having won the Herts Senior County League Premier Division Championship in 1999/00 by nine points:

Unfortunately the 2020/21 SSML season has been unceremoniously 'curtailed' as was officially announced by the FA last Wednesday that 'Steps 3-6 will be curtailed' although, in the case of the Herts Senior County League, who appeared to 'jump the gun' on Thursday, it has already been declared null and void with no promotion or relegation taking place, the League are preparing to run an end of season League Cup competition for all its Divisions. That includes the Premier Division where Colney Heath Reserves campaign is at a premature conclusion after just nine League fixtures although some may argue that it is a blessing in disguise with the side bottom of the table with a meagre five points. Their last outing was on Saturday 12 December when losing 3-1 at Bush Hill Rangers, that followed more than a six week sabbatical between 24 October and 12 December without kicking a ball in anger for the frustrated Reserve side when going down 4-2 at home to Letchworth Garden City Eagles on Saturday 24 October. The First team meanwhile last tasted action in the FA Vase Third Round, at Brickfield Lane on Saturday 19 December, losing 4-1 on penalties to Hadley following a hard fought 0-0 stalemate after ninety minutes where there had been plenty of opportunities to win the tie. League form prior to that had been rather disappointing with a 1-1 drew at home to Newport Pagnell Town and a 3-2 defeat at Pancake Lane against 'bogey side' Leverstock Green despite the hosts playing almost the entire match with ten men when Luke Peerless saw red on just five minutes:

Further to the announcement by the Herts Senior County League last Thursday where they declared their season null and void, here is an update from League Secretary Scott Patmore who you may have heard talking to Ollie Bayliss on the BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show on Sunday:

The draw for the end of season Herts Senior County League Premier Division Cup competition was made earlier today which sees Colney Heath Reserves in a group with Royston Town Reserves, Letchworth Garden City Eagles and Bush Hill Rangers, there are four groups of four teams and the winners of each group go into a Semi Final which gives all Premier Division Club's at least three matches. Colney Heath Reserves will not be looking forward to locking horns with any of their group opponents who have all beaten them convincingly in the Premier Division this season, coincidentally in the last four fixtures including two 3-1 defeats by Bush Hill Rangers, home and away.

Confirmation of Colney Heath Reserves group in the end of season Herts Senior County League Premier Division Cup competition that will get under way on Saturday 3 April. With all three Group B opponents, Royston Town Reserves, Letchworth Garden City Eagles and Bush Hill Rangers, in the top five placings of the Premier Division prior to the curtailment it is clearly the 'group of death' and Colney Heath Reserves will certainly have their work cut out to qualify for the latter stages, the 6-1 drubbing at Garden Walk on Tuesday 13 October didn't make for pleasant watching from the away dug out and it could have been far worse with Royston Town Reserves 4-0 ahead after just 24 minutes of the proceedings:

Colney Heath Reserves lock horns with Bush Hill Rangers on Saturday 3 April at Wodson Park before visiting Garden Walk the following Saturday to take on Royston Town Reserves, the final group fixture is against Letchworth Garden City Eagles, again away from home at the Pixmore Playing Fields, on Saturday 17 April. All three Herts Senior County League Premier Division Cup Group B matches kick off at 3.00pm.

Colney Green Reserves travelled to Wodson Park this afternoon (3 April) to take on Bush Hill Rangers in the first of their Herts Senior County League Premier Division Cup Group B fixtures, it was a disappointing trip with Colney Heath going down tamely 2-0 and they already face an uphill task to qualify from the group. Meanwhile the First team fared better having made the trip to Green Lane earlier today for a friendly fixture against Bovingdon, winning 3-0 with goals from Bailey Stevenson and a brace from George Devine, it was fairly comfortable in the end following a goalless first period and boss Ryan Thompson will have been pleased with the run out ahead of next Saturday's tricky Gladwish SSML Spring Cup opener at Levertock Green.
