League Structure

I see Neil has made observations on restructuring the lower leagues. As I am not able to get the Maidenhead Advertiser and Slough Observer during this period will someone down load on here the report.

You can go on the Slough Express website and click on the article. You can pay 20p for the privilege or click on No Thanks and read for free.  Alternatively buy the newspaper in a shop.

As Sdlane says it would be good if someone could download it for on here as it would make a great discussion.

Having read the article I think Neil's suggestion is spot on but I can't see a lot of clubs fighting for promotion to League One, being very keen.

Hello 3spirit a long time since I was in Slough. Why pay 20p when you could down load it for free. I had 3weeks of nonstop coughing bouts from mid march 2 days of aches and pains. Over it now.

Hi SD.

Hopefully, that was just a 'cold' although if you did have the coronavirus thing[a light dose] that might be good also, so that you've now built up some immunity to it.

It's certainly a worrying situation all round, and just how long it will take for scientists to discover a vaccine for Covid-19 is anyone's guess.

It's a bugger not being able to go to the pub for some light relief, or watch any football in Slough but it is what it is.

We knew about 'self isolation' before this crisis, didn't we? ha ha, not !

Look after yourself.

Good to see Bakes, Unders and Ade are all well.

Enjoyed the interview very much.

I'm not sure I believe Unders when he said that he was sitting in his daughters bedroom. I was wondering if that was the closet where he practises his ballet! ha ha!  ?

Seriously, though, while it would have been better if it were not this coronavirus thing, I think it should do our managers good to have space away from football, as everybody needs to recharge their batteries at some point in life.

For Slough Town Football Club in general, I think it won't do any harm either to restock/pause, where the club is, as a whole. Obviously on the financial side the club is going to take a hit but in the long term it might have come at the right time for re-evaluating where this club is best to be operating and what the long term aims are.

If the club are as ambitious as our managers then the National League is the short term aim with League 2 the long term aim. Naturally there are negatives with bigger crowds, wages and other trappings but personally I’d love to see us (hopefully) competing against some big teams with Arbour Park full on a regular basis.

Glen, what do you think of Bakes idea of National Premier and League 2 becoming North and South leagues? I think it is a great idea.

With our managers, it's been stated by them both, that they are ambitious to go higher up the leagues but to me that isn't as clear cut as it sounds and may not necessarily happen, as Bakes and Unders both have different responsibilities. I don't view the club and the managers as inseparable but of course, I hope both parties have a long term future together.

If one of Bakes and Unders, decided to have a crack in the full time game, and the other one decided not to and preferred to stay semi -pro, then if Slough were still semi-pro, I would like to think the latter one would be offered the sole manager's job at Slough before any other manager came in.

All if's and but's, I know but nothing is set in stone. I certainly think Slough should be able to reach the National Premier in it's current format but sustaining that level is going to be harder especially with the ground owned by the Council.

I don’t think many could argue Bakes’ idea isn’t the correct way forward but I’m not so sure we’ll see it anytime soon unfortunately... the pair of them have stated a few times publicly that they would only leave as a duo so I don’t think it’s likely one would leave the other although I guess you just never know!

I for one would be interested to know exactly what the AP needs to be eligible for the National League, I cant imagine it’ll be anything major in expense or work. Obviously promotion to the EFL would require substantial work and money and I wonder if that would fall on the council or a joint venture?

I think there is still a step to go through before a re-structure of the professional leagues will be considered, and that is four up & four down between the National Premier & League Two.

I’m not convinced by the argument that regionalising into a League Two North & South would overall increase attendances, you only have to look at the clubs with the lowest attendances currently in League Two (Macclesfield, Crawley, Morecombe, Forest Green, Stevenage & Salford) all clubs who have traditionally been non league clubs.

And even the non league clubs that have progressed to League One struggle with attendances - Accrington, Fleetwood, & Burton Albion still only average about 3,000.
