What about making a team from both sides [ Slough and Wycombe].

The goalkeepers is a big call for me, as Trevor Bunting is a big Slough favourite of mine and was a great shot stopper and also seemed a likeable bloke[on and off the field]. Paul Hyde was very vocal and loud in a game and came over as a arrogant on the pitch but certainly looked a commanding presence in goal and was definitely a class keeper. I would probably go for Paul Hyde as my goalkeeper,as his all round ability just about edged it.

Not a lot to choose between Whitby and Cousins. I would plump for Jason Cousins, slightly stronger than Steve Whitby but not a lot in it in speed/ skill factor.

Alan Pluckrose would be my left back. Sheer class.

I would have Matt Crossley and Darren Anderson as my centre halves. Both had weaknesses but as a pairing I could see it working.

The midfield and forward line is a nightmare for trying to accomomodate players, as the choice and quality is fantastic.

I would go for the pairing of Dave Carroll and Ian Hazel in midfield. Carroll the class passer of a ball and made his position look effortless. Ian Hazel had a great engine and would run all day. Both willing to shoot but neither afraid to close down.

Right wing has to be Steve Guppy, as he made it big in the professional game, and is the most natural fit in that position. Left wing I would go for Mark Fiore in his prime. He was so exciting to watch and had enough skill on the ball to dazzle against most defenders. Cruelly injuries blighted his career.

I would have to pair Steve Thompson with Keith Scott up front. In their prime both electric for very different reasons. Thommo the ace in the hole and dribbling skills second to none. I would prefer to play him behind the front two but this line up suits a 4-4-2. Kim Casey or Andy Sayer are better fits as a number nine but that means sticking Thommo in centre mid in place of Ian Hazel which I'm loathe to do.

Keith Scott just about edges it up front of Paul McKinnon, as I only got to see the older version of McKinnon and while still technically very good, Scott in his prime was a real handful for any team.

Honourable mentions Neal Stanley, a honest to goodness forward team player alongside Kim Casey, another predator in the box/livewire.

Controversially I would leave Andy Sayer out, on the thinnest of fine margins and the same goes for Les Briley. Both were professionals with Wimbledon and Millwall but as I'm picking a best of 'non-league' from those two teams, they don't make it.

I know but for me Mark Fore would play there. I said natural fit as Guppy was a winger and nothing says you have to play a right footer on the right wing.

I could have opted for Steve Whitby on the right wing as he liked to play forward or Neal Stanley there but how can you leave Steve Guppy out of the team.

Would it be possible for someone connected with the archive to unravel the conflation between the records of Cliff Brown (right winger), who only made three apps in 1964/65, and the much travelled goalkeeper Ken Brown) who made all the rest listed over a spread of seasons. Also there were two different Alan Davies'-the successful manager who made one playing appearance in the mid 1980's and the midfielder who featured in Roy Sleap's promotion winning side of 1973/4 and for a short time during the following season.  And I'm pretty sure that Mick, Micky, and Mike Brown were all the same player, the son of long-time former club secretary Bill Brown and his feisty wife Kath who was one of my teachers at Godolphin School.

Working through multiple possible crossovers and updating as time allows. Will add the above into the list, but thank you for letting me know, always happy to amend.

Should you find any more, please do let us know on this thread.

Further updates added to the site today, with the missing reports from the 93/94 season now on the site. For those who took in this season, what was it like? Touted title contenders for the early months of the season and then a horrible run of results which ultimately led to our relegation.

What was Morrys Scott like? Seems to come across badly in many of the reports.
What happened to Les Briley after Slough? Seemed to be a decent player for the level at the time, but reading between the lines, seemed hamstrung by the financial input from the Thornes (was that the reason Docherty left?)

Anyway, reports added to the site are listed below. Enjoy.

Having just been reviewing some entries for the late 50's to the late 70's (as you do to pass the time or for other reasons) I rather think there must have been two George Cox's.

It's an awful long time ago now, but thanks to these reports it brings it all back! Thanks for the work Gary.

John Docherty left after receiving a large payout from his previous managerial post. Lived in Yorkshire so Slough was a bit of a commute.

Morrys Scott did well under Docherty's system, but faded badly under Les Briley's managership as did many others!

Les Briley packed it all in after Slough.

Morry Scott was a better player than the system Briley used him in. He may have been a tall lad but he was also useful as a ball player, not just a target man. Good lad off the pitch too.  Went to Merthyr at one stage after us, I went down to a game that was postponed , so had pint in clubhouse. Merthyr were training on edge of pitch, and he came over to say hello.

Agree Grandad. Morrys Scott was a useful player back in the day. He was rather gangerly but knew how to put the ball in the net. Les Briley got rid of him far too soon in my opinion.

Les at the time wanted to play with more finesse through midfield, and Morry's I think was seen as not much of a ball player up front, and so Les ousted Morrys Scott. Like a lot of new managers, they often make too many changes early on in their new club because they have mates and familiar players they want to use,and the previous manager's players are often seen as surplus to requirements. I don't know all the facts as the Thornes were then running the club but it did seem that like Bobby Charlton, a fine footballer as Les Briley was, he didn't make a fine football manager and made far too many player changes in quick succession that season and results were awful hence Les losing the managers position fairly rapidly.

Gary STFC, according to our fan forumite Shredding Green, Les Briley now works for Millwall Football Club and hosts hospitality events for Millwall,as SG has chatted to him. Not sure if it's part time or full time.

Actually I have done Les Briley a disservice, as having now looked through the season in question [ my memory gets worse!] Les actually played Morrys Scott for three quarters of the season! He dropped him because results were not going well and he was bringing in loans for forward players,in an effort to change Slough's fortunes. Initially, Morrys Scott and Andy Sayer were banging in the goals.

Back then I thought Slough were weak in many positions especially the back line, and even the midfield had problems. I thought they were trying to adapt styles too quickly from the previous regime that had done fairly well on a limited squad. I'm sure Les Briley in hindsight will now feel the same.

I liked Morrys Scott,so I was peed off when he dropped him, though it may have first come through injury. At the time there was so many not pulling their weight, and getting played in what seemed like favouritism, that results started to slide badly as the season wore on. A lot of new signings fell short.

On the sidelines watching, it's easy to blame the manager for being out of his depth but Les did seem to make some strange footballing decisions, that eventually cost him his job but some of the players were certainly not blameless.
