In the last couple of hours the Kings Lynn Chairman/owner has put up a Tweet.

He has just found out that the Government only consider 'elite football' to go down as far as the National League so as it stands there cannot be any play-offs in the NLS/NLN.

He say's NL rules do not allow promotion without play-offs so unless there is a rule change Havant and York cannot be promoted.

And Havant shouldn't be promoted as a couple of weeks earlier we were 2nd, that would be so unfair. All clubs agreed to the rules preseason so they can't change them now.

As I understand it we will only have 21 teams in the National League South next season. Chorley are the only team to be relegated from the National League and will surely go into the National League North. We will lose Wealdstone who will go up and as no relegation is suggested we  are left with 21 in our division. How long have the National League known about this "Government elite sport" policy I see talked about . which states no play-offs at our level? If it's been a while, why the hell haven't they mentioned it well before now?

I suppose they will just say we didn't want to say anything until EFL Div 2 made up their minds.

Havant Manager Paul Doswell has given an interview on Radio Solent saying he's 'bitterly disappointed' and thinks they've been 'stitched up' by the NL.

He thinks it's pretty well nailed on that clubs will vote in favour of the NL recommendations because 'turkeys don't vote for Christmas' in deciding the league on a PPG basis and only promoting one club with no play-offs.

To make up the numbers they could possibly switch Gloucester back into the NLS.

Hi Reading Rebel.

But if they switched Gloucester to the National League South, that would leave the National League North with 21 teams for next season, with King's Lynn going up and Chorley coming in.

If the  reported "Government Elite Sport" details only covers football down to the National League level and NOT National League's North and South, (which apparently means that National North and South cannot have playoffs but the National League can) .then  the National League must have known that as soon as this document was released, which surely must have been some time before yesterday ?

Why only announce it now?

And I saw a comment attributed to the National League which said that if the clubs don't vote this proposal through by Monday, the National League will make it very difficult in the future for those clubs that vote against it.

Also saw that the National League intends to start next season for all of their 3 divisions  by September.

I'd be very interested to see how they intend to do that.

Can't say I'm impressed with the National League's decision makers.

If this proposal goes through which it no doubt will it certainly stinks of the NL protecting their own. So if 2 are being promoted as normal why not relegate 4 as normal and promote the top 2 in the North and South (even though that would thoroughly annoy me to see Havant creep in).

Have to say that if I was a supporter of Chorley I'd be feeling extremely hard done by.

Am I right in thinking that they will be the only non-league team to be "forcibly" relegated throughout the entire non-league pyramid?

Why only one team to be relegated from the National League?

Are AFC Fylde too wealthy to go down ?

That's what it looks like.

The 'Elite sport' bit was apparently only divulged just before the meetings were due to take place.

The NL seemed to have issued veiled threats to clubs that if they don't toe the line and vote for their recommendations this could cause problems as regards to future promotions into the EFL.

All smacks of desperation and underhandedness.

You can understand Havant's frustrations as obviously it was a formality that they would win the playoffs as if you look at the history of the playoffs it is always the team which finished second in the league ultimately winning promotion.

Completely agree with you RV  ?
