Being in our position I too would like the opportunity to compete in the play offs. But as no one knows when the restart will happen it will mess up the following season to some degree. I wonder if pre season will be shortened or even scrapped if this season finished July/August? Worst case scenario and we can’t restart until early next year then I guess you’d have to completely forget about playing the 20/21 season!

Not necessarily. If there is now a doubt about whether we will be out of lockdown in time  to start NEXT season, we may as well finish this season when we can . Maybe not restart till October and accept its NEXT season that is cancelled. Every league could then spend the post Christmas period playing European Leagues FA Cup,FA Trophy League Cups and County Cups . Could even invent a couple of new ones ( National League Cup?, Then get back to normal after Euro 2021.

Don't like the option of scrapping next season and only roughly two months of league football.

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like the NL board have come to a decision to give clubs a vote on how to end the season with the board recommending clubs vote to finish the season without playing anymore normal league games.

If this recommendation is taken up by clubs they will then hold a poll to decide on the best way to end the season with promotion/relegation play-off games being one of the options.

So what is the likely outcome here?

The season suspended with Wealdstone promoted as champions?

Play-offs on 8th, 12th & 16th May if possible (& maybe behind closed doors if the govt only relax regulations to permit maximum gatherings of 50)?

And if not possible, then Havant promoted as runners up?

Obviously I’d be up for cancelling the remaining league games and just playing the 1,2 but hopefully 3 play off games which could be squeezed into 10 days. Plus these could be played as late as June without effecting the new season too much. Hopefully it wouldn’t be behind closed doors but if it had to be then yeah I’d still rather they went ahead.

Is there no end to the generosity of the Premiership.

They've announced that next week they are releasing money to all lower league clubs.

The amount the National league receive will be 2 million.

NL clubs will each receive £58,333 with £13,636 going to every North and South club.

Apparently this is not additional money but an 'early advance' on the money the NL would have received from the Premiership coffers at the beginning of next season.

I think we should all be truly grateful for this kind gesture.

The likely outcome is that:-

1. the clubs will support the National League recommendation to end the ‘normal season’ with immediate effect

2. this will have the effect of making Wealdstone & York City champions of the Conference South & North

3. there won’t be any play-offs because the many weeks of disruption would result in players not being match fit

4. the National Premier already have Bury dropping straight down, and will vote for Chorley to be relegated as well, as they are 11 points adrift & would struggle to mount any challenge to being relegated

5. so, Chorley & Bury will be relegated, with Wealdstone & York promoted

6. the only complainers would possibly be Kings Lynn, but as soon as clubs vote overwhelmingly in favour of ending the ‘normal season’ immediately, any challenge from them is likely to fail

Another strange decision is giving the NL premier division a vote to each club and only 4 in total for both the NLS and NLN.

Really not sure how that will work when clubs make their votes.

That is how the voting system works.  I saw it in action at the league AGM last year.  Don't know why specifically but I'm assuming it's about giving the big boys a better say.

It's a collective vote from all the clubs in the NLS. The North and South each have a rep that coordinates the opinions of the clubs in their league and the votes are assigned depending on the general opinion. I assume it's 4 votes per league to allow for any differences in that opinion.
