There are four matches for today (24th March).

The first one is Burnham v Slough in 2009

2009-03-24 Burnham (A) 0-3

Forgot that Ex Rebel Glen Harris was playing for Burnham that day.

We got beat 3-0 (probably not our heaviest defeat to Burnham?) our team on the night was:

Jacko

Dean Harper

Andrew Iwediuno

Rob Kean

Luke Evans

Rory Smith

Steve Sinclair

Chris Fermie

Danny Jordan

Matthew Platt

Yashwa Romeo

I thought Luke Evans was a solid center back and at his best Steve Sinclair was a class act.

Matthew Platt, who came to us from up north on work secondment, was a classy forward and on his day Romeo was a good pacey striker.

Apart from Jacko I thought the rest were pretty average.

The very next game with two changes to the line up we were stuffed 6-0 by Bridgewater.

This game was very early in Steve Bateman's reign, having taken over from Derek Sweetman a few games prior. There was a smattering of Bateman signings such as Rob Kean and Steve Sinclair, with the rest arriving that summer.

I agree that the stand-out players for me in that team were Sinclair and Platt, who I thought was class.

The report and the line up for this game on the website don’t add up which I worked out from the pictures. Number 11 in the pictures is clearly Byron Bubb not Yashwa Romeo as the website states. When reading the report it also states that Romeo was bought on in the penultimate paragraph.

Time for the 3rd of 4 albums from 24th March.

This one is Slough v Corby in 2015

24-03-15 Slough Town v Corby Town (2-1 L)

I remember this game well.

Corby needed the points to keep in touch with Poole Town at the top of the table.

Slough were the better side for most of the game and were winning 1-0 until a controversial penalty was awarded by the ref whose name was Forrester and is probably the worst ref ever to set foot on a pitch.

Jake Parsons and Scott Harris were both sent off with Corby eventually winning the game 2-1.

Dean Harper was one of those players who always gave 100% so can't knock him for that.

Danny Jordan came with a big reputation for scoring at a lower level but unfortunately it never really happened for him.

Danny Jordan started off well in his first season but got injured at some point and when he did come back into the team never looked very interested in proceedings and so flattered to deceive, which was a pity because he looked like he could be useful if he had put his mind to it. Think he was full of enthusiasm when the team was first put together by Derek Sweetman but when the results suffered and the team started heading down the table, he seemed to lose his fight.

You couldn't say that about Dean Harper as he was a trier and deserved to be in Derek Sweetman's team and given a chance under Steve Bateman. Wouldn't say he had a lot of finesse but always tried his best. It was inevitable he would only get so far under Steve Bateman, when better players arrived in his regime.

Of the players mentioned about this game,I thought Yash Romeo was a good striker to have and Steve Sinclair and Rob Kean were great  Bateman signings.

Luke Evans was another who looked good when first playing for Derek Sweetman but faded as the season wore on. Matthew Platt was never one of my favourites for some reason and I'm not wholly sure why,as he wasn't a dirty player, did score goals and had some good games in the Slough shirt but I can't say I took to him much.

Here's the last of today's trip down memory lane. This time to Basingstoke v Slough on 24th March 2018

24-03-18 Basingstoke Town v Slough Town (1-4)

This was the match where a surprise loan signing made his debut, but our kit man obviously hadn’t managed to get hold of a shirt to fit him, and some thought he looked like a Sunday pub player when we conceded in the first minute, but we went on to win 4-1.... he turned out to be an inspired signing though & played a big part in our play-off semi final win over Kettering.

Name that player.

26th March sees 3 photo albums.

The first is from 2011, with Slough at home to Bedworth United

26-03-11 Slough Town v Bedworth United

Great to see all these pics of old faces, supporters and players.

Rob Bullivant with Charlie Fanner on the bench, now there's a couple of names I forgot all about.

Bullivant, experienced keeper signed from Windsor, played 17 games for us keeping 2 clean sheets.

Charlie Fanner, young keeper signed from Holmer Green, made 9 appearances keeping 1 clean sheet.
