Hahaha, you are good. No, perhaps I wasn’t clear, my friend was at Arsenal with Ashley Cole and Livermore among others.

Winslow Boy - Apologies, I honestly thought you were talking about Shaka Cole of Kentish Town as you didn't make it clear. I never had a lot of time for Ashley Cole due to the way he conducted his personal life and for the way he treated Cheryl however obviously as a player you couldn't fault him. You seem to have friends in high places and enjoy telling us about them don't you.

When Town finally settled into their stride following the early Hertford onslaught they immediately pulled a goal back through Baron Charlery when, on the edge of the box with his back to goal, hooked an impossible volley over his head and past a startled Hertford goalkeeper Mark Virgo who was somewhat unsighted by his defenders, not even Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence combined however would have had a prayer of saving it as the ball looped high over Virgo and into the far top corner for what must have surely been one of the best goals, if not the best, ever to be seen at Hertingfordbury Park.

I should be shot at dawn shouldn't I for not including a photo of the man who scored the best ever goal at Hertingfordbury Park in 112 years, Baron 'the Baron' Charlery is in the back row far left:

I hope Winslow Boy continues to post his stories as they are interesting.

I just wish he would name drop :thumbsup(2):

So you are saying Tommy Kanaris was world class.

You must explain why he and the numerous other 'world class' players who played at Kentish Town never reached the dizzy heights of the Premier League.

Come on we all know they stormed the league, didn’t lose a game scored well over 100 goals in the process, won the FA Vase, got to the 3rd round of the FA Cup, because they were all playing so far below their level and the following season they did it all again but in the division above....

The 2005/2006 SSML campaign was arguably the best in the League's entire history with Oxford City and Hillingdon Borough going at it hammer and tongs throughout, in the end Oxford City won the Championship having netted eleven more times even though Hillingdon Borough had actually won one more game but had lost two more than the Court Place Farm outfit. Oxford City also lifted the Premier Division Cup that season however, incredibly, Hillingdon Borough reached the FA Vase Final losing 3-1 to Nantwich Town at St Andrews and playing twelve ties in all. Their Captain Danny Tilbury has already been featured earlier in this thread and was instrumental throughout the campaign, fortunately Hillingdon Borough were still promoted to the Southern League Division One South & West that season, as were Hanwell Town in third, due to pyramid restructuring, it would have been a travesty if they hadn't been.

I thought that I had already explained why in an earlier post to Winslow Boy who should know as he lived in Islington for over ten years. These were pretty much all players, as was the case at Haringey Borough too, who were brought up on rough infamous Council Estates such as Broadwater Farm, Edmonton Green, Bunhill and the Marquess Estate on the mean streets of Camden, Islington and Haringey in the 1980's, in one parent families living hand to mouth on benefits when things were extremely tough, there were countless distractions, pitfalls and temptations for local youngsters such as gangs, alcohol, drugs, theft and prostitution. This is not leafy and affluent Winslow, Buckingham, Stony Stratford, Aston Clinton, New Bradwell, Holmer Green, Leverstock Green, Cranfield or Ampthill we are talking about where there is little or no trouble and you are usually born into privilege where parents are more concerned about how much their homes are worth and upgrading their cars and four by fours knowing that their kids are well behaved and keeping on the straight and narrow.

Just to say that I hope nobody will take offence at my earlier comments, this is actually very serious stuff and at Kentish Town we literally had to invent and fund programmes for the players just to keep them on the straight and narrow during the week in order to keep tabs on them before games including, wait for it, a painting group in 2006. None of them had ever held a paint brush in their lives yet it was a huge success, the painting the players eventually produced was later exhibited at various high profile events around London including one at the Guildhall:

Did you ever have any world class painters such as the next Van Gogh,  Rembrandt or Titian on your books?

Could they have gone all the way as artists?

Winslow Boy - I don't know if you read all the article but, coincidentally, it was just after Kentish Town were due to play Winslow United at Claremont Road in an SSML Division One fixture. You may recall that we got a phone call at about 1.45pm to say that some players had been involved in a road traffic accident, allegedly, and the team wouldn't  be coming, we later checked with the motor way Police and they said there had been no accidents on any stretch of road between Winslow and north London all day.

I'm sorry to give you nightmares tonight but that is Tommy Kanaris in the very front with the black tee shirt, you never imagined in a million years to see your nemesis holding a paint brush did you and I recall he was actually the best painter

I know that was a big deal for you, but a game against a small, poorly supported and now non existent club doesn’t merit any space in my memory banks. I’ll have to call the motorway police for traffic updates between any given two points in the country in the future, I didn’t know they did that.

Where the 2005/2006 SSML campaign was arguably the best in the League's history with Oxford City and Hillingdon Borough going at it like Hagler and Hearns throughout, the following 2006/2007 season was somewhat of a one horse race, indeed Edgware Town also added the Challenge Trophy and Premier Division Cup and reached the Fourth Round of the FA Vase. Edgware Town's star man that season was young striker Stuart Blackburne (pictured below) who scored for fun and later joined Wingate & Finchley, Welwyn Garden City,  Enfield Town, Boreham Wood and Cockfosters before returning to Edgware Town:
