Why on Earth indeed. Cracking player, got the opportunity to train with him a couple of times while at QPR for a couple of months, mainly with reserves but on a few occasions with the firsts.

No, only played 5 seasons from age 15-20 before I moved away.

Yes mate, debut at 14 actually but first proper season at 15. Played with some players that I would consider legends towards the end of the careers, guys who’d had various spells at Winslow but also played much much higher, ultimately for whatever reason we always underachieved and I never won anything, one promotion. We should have done much better in two of my seasons for sure.

Here we go folks, how about Baron 'the Baron' Charlery who plied his trade with Kentish Town and Haringey Borough in the SSML. Whilst with Kentish Town, Baron scored surely the best goal ever witnessed in Hertford Town's 112 year history at Hertingfordbury Park in a pre-season friendly on 15 August 2006, a date that will always be etched in my memory. People I meet regularly on the mean streets of Camden and Kentish Town, who had the privilege of being and playing at Hertingfordbury Park that day, still talk about it now, I also still have the match report from the game which, coincidentally, was Clement Temile's very first game in charge at Kentish Town, the so called 'Great One', who was featured earlier on in this thread, also still talks about Baron Charlery's goal to this day, this is someone who played with and against some of the World's greatest ever players throughout his illustrious International career with Nigeria:

Town were given the wonderful opportunity to play at the salubrious surroundings of Hertford Town’s fine Hertingfordbury Park stadium this evening as last minute replacements for Wembley. Hertford opened very brightly with Town, who had arrived late due to traffic difficulties on the infamous A10, being caught cold by the pace of their opponents attack, on only 3 minutes Hertford’s Paul Dodds was arguably brought down in the box and the Referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot with the kick being clinically despatched by Redford. Hertford could well have doubled their tally two minutes later but Redford's cross was plucked out of the air by Town’s competent keeper, on 8 minutes however it was 2-0 when a good ball from Hertford’s Scott Neilson found Lee Roberts out on the left who cut into the box before chipping the ball deliciously into the net. Hertford should have gone 3-0 up on 12 minutes when a fine build up led to the ball being poked just wide, Redford then missed an easy chance when he ballooned the ball high over the bar causing more danger to passing aircraft than the Town goal. When Town finally settled into their stride following the early Hertford onslaught they immediately pulled a goal back through Baron Charlery when, on the edge of the box with his back to goal, hooked an impossible volley over his head and past a startled Hertford goalkeeper Mark Virgo who was somewhat unsighted by his defenders, not even Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence combined however would have had a prayer of saving it as the ball looped high over Virgo and into the far top corner for what must have surely been one of the best goals, if not the best, ever to be seen at Hertingfordbury Park. Geed up by this wonderful strike Town got more into the proceedings however conceded regular free kicks through their commitment and disappointingly two Town players saw yellow through somewhat over zealous Refereeing for a friendly encounter. A Hertford free kick by Scott Neilson's had to be tipped over acrobatically by Town’s keeper with the only other efforts worthy of note in the half being Hertford’s Ashley McAloon's 32nd minute effort and a Paul Dodds glancing header which was very well saved.

Hertford Manager Gary Conner ‘did a Sven’ during the interval making six changes for the second period whilst Town’s players were introduced to new Coach Clement Temile, a former Nigerian International player who played six years for the Super Eagles in the 1980’s including taking part in the final of the African Cup of Nations final in 1984. Most of Hertford's threats in the second half came down the right side through Alex Scriven who won a number of corners with his crosses from out wide however the home side could not capitalise on their lions share of the play with Town offering little threat up front, albeit showing great resistance in defence. The game petered out in somewhat of a scrappy fashion however Town were more than satisfied with their evenings work despite a nasty injury to midfield maestro Thomas Looney which will keep him out for the start of the season.

Town now go to Stony Stratford Town on Saturday for their first Spartan South Midlands League Division 1 encounter of the new 2006/2007 campaign in a positive frame of mind and Manager Frank Zanre and new Coach Clement Temile are both confident that three points can be obtained if playing to their true potential.

Graeme Freshwater also played for Wycombe Wanderers. Exceptional player. Stuart Tavener also played for Wycombe and Oxford City, quality are centre mid and centre half. Paul Talbot, Buckingham Athletic, Aylesbury, Brackley to name a few of his other clubs, scored goals for absolute fun. Kevin Eldred ex Aylesbury Utd. That’s four off the top of my head that I played with at Winslow. Probably three or four others that would fit criteria for sssml legend (quality player, plenty of games over a number of seasons)

Berkhamsted FC midfielder Josh Chamberlain is still playing for Berkhamsted FC in the Southern League Division One Central.

Josh Chamberlain scored 6 goals in 26 games this season.

Here's a name to conjure with folks, Glenn Shurety, former Haringey Borough hard man who made Ron 'Chopper' Harris look like a choir boy in comparison, Glenn was at Coles Park for a good number of years and was always the first to arrive for training and matches and the last to leave, they don't make players like him anymore. Born and bred on the Mile End Road, Glenn bled claret and blue, as well as Haringey Borough's green and black, and would run through a brick wall for the Club, you could stake your life on him:

In the south mids Rory Bray, Michael Carrol, Damien Wiffin, there was a South African fella that at the end of his career played at Pitstone and him and Gary Rae ran games without breaking a sweat in the middle of the park. Came back and played against Craig Hammond twice who who was very good. Remember a winger for Tring back in the 90’s who was absolutely lightning too. Remember playing against some excellent centre halves at Hoddesdon, Dunstable and Stony Stratford but can’t think of names. 
 

elsewhere, Craig Hignett, Alex Rae, Kevin Phillips but the absolute best was Julio Arca a magician. 
 

the best worst was Paul Dalglish I made a switch to centre half and marked him out of the game, months later he was back in Scottish prem then went on to win MLS with Houston scoring twice in the final!
