Come on everyone, we do have a game so let's have a thread on it!

Thanks to you we do now!

I wonder what the gate will be  with very little football in the area we will see what effect the propaganda has had

This is one of two games in our 8 game run in where we can do damage to a very close rival  I wouldn't  call it a must win game rather a shouldn't lose game

Weymouth  have the same points as us and are on a reasonably good run of form but with the exception of H&W (unbeaten away from home) no team in our league has won more away games than we have and  we have a history of playing well at Weymouth  so I'm  more than hopeful about todays result COYR

2-0 loss and feedback given to 1 of the managers on here prior to posting. Was asked to listen to the interview before posting and did so.

That was a disgrace of a decision to allow a player who has never taken a penalty in a league match (lots of talk about 3 out of 3 but they are in shootouts in the noddy B+B cup and an FA cup game were everyone had to take one). Everyone involved in allowing Jack Turner to take that penalty should be ashamed of themselves. I hope lessons have been learnt as clearly Jack's confidence isn't backed up with ability in the big moment in the big game.

As for the interview I was asked to listen to, more than happy to do that. Neil and Jon have been incredible for Slough Town over the years and should never be abused in an inappropriate way, whomever has done that should be apologising and hoping for forgiveness. I would say though, all the amazing things they have done doesn't make them immune to question or negativity towards a decision that they make. They have got it wrong today and I am not afraid to feedback negatively as it takes nothing away from what they have achieved.

Ade - could you explain how you expect any Slough supporter to be positive about a missed penalty in a game against a league rival that we go on to lose 2-0? Seemed a strange expectation and question. It is all well and good saying "1/2 inch lower and everyone says what an amazing penalty" but that didnt happen did it!

If the season continues (given current circumstances that must be in question) I hope that we get back to getting results and achieving what we all want as regardless of reasons performances or otherwise, that's 2 2-0 losses in a row and a change in results needs to happen or I fear the season that has promised so much failing  to deliver in the end.

Agree with you SF that nobody should be beyond critisism whether it's players or managers as long as it's done in the appropriate manner.

Have to say though using the words 'disgrace of a decision' and 'ashamed of themselves' does seem very harsh.

Let's not give this too much traction Doesnt really matter who takes a penalty They either put it away or they don't

A main thread on the Weymouth forum recently has been their inability to put away penalties They've  won 17 but missed 8 of the last13 and 4 of the last 5 before today  But very well executed today Sods Law

That is the danger of a goalkeeper taking a penalty.

Anyone can miss a penalty, however if your keeper takes a penalty and misses, allowing the other side to break quickly then it puts you in a difficult situation defensively. If an outfield player misses then at least you should have a reasonably solid formation to defend a potential break by the oppostion. I think that we were lucky to get away with that one today.

Obviously had Jack scored then we would not be discussing this now.

It is not the same situation as a penalty shootout. If your keeper takes a penalty, he will either score or if he misses or the penalty is saved then the play stops.

Personally, I was surprised that either Ben did not step up and take it.

Anyway, we did not win and we will have to move on to the next game, whenever that might be!

I'm sorry but I am one to heavily criticised this decision and I 100% think it was a disgraceful decision from our mangers to allow it, it's not necessarily the  gk taking the penalty it's the situation it leaves us in if we miss... which of course we did, if when they break the rash tackle was not made they are through on goal to score a 2nd, the penalty was taken in the 56th minute if an outfield player takes it we are defensively set up to halt an attack without a gk in goal we are not, I've heard alot about Jack been our 2nd best ball striker well let's go all out and allow him to take corners or free kicks when others are not available as that will just leave us as open as when he takes a penalty. Who knows if any out field player would have scored but at Least I could have walked away knowing we did everything in a professional manner and tried... unfortunately with 180 minutes of league football we have been way of it.

No problem if you want to criticise the decision,  but were you there and  if so did you shout abuse at the managers?

Disgraceful? You are absolutely entitled to think it was a mistake. I make mistakes doing my job every week and I guess you do too, but no one calls them disgraceful. All criticism has to be in context and most of their decisions work out well, we have 2 promotions in quick succession and a team ethic that's the envy of the league.

I'm sure it wasn't you that abused Jon and Neil but for both of them are so obviously upset that some people were obviously way put of order and that's much more important than losing the game to me.

I define myself as a supporter not a fan, meaning that when the going gets tough I encourage and support (not agree with everything) but pitch in to do my bit to make the club a success.

Will not look to explain or justify our decision on the penalty taker as I explained that in my interview with Ade but will just add that we had a clear plan that if the ball bounced back in to play (the worst case  scenario when a GK takes a pen) that Warren would do what is necessary, and take a yellow card if necessary, to ensure they did not break away and score. We always plan for every eventuality.

Despite what some might think we are quite prepared for people not to agree with us and to criticise decisions if they want to. We don’t expect everyone to agree with us all of the time and we have made mistakes in the past and will no doubt continue to do so.

What upset us yesterday (aside from the one particular drunken idiot at the game who disgraced the club) was some of what was said on here and social media by people using the terms disgrace, embarrassment and even saying we had let the club down.

We feel given our loyalty to the club and our achievements here over 7 years that type of criticism is way out of line, over the top and completely uncalled for.

That’s all I want to say on the matter and will not comment further on here.

Guest Wycombe Rebel

I really don’t understand the issue here, it’s a missed penalty, it happens... Perspective! It doesn’t matter who takes the penalty, they can be missed and this one moment of play won’t define a 42 game season. I for one believe more goalkeepers should take penalties, even 20-30 yard free kicks, they hit more dead balls than anyone else and are clean strikers of the ball.

By all means criticise but be careful of the words used, it’s a bloody missed penalty, nothing disgraceful etc about it. I’d be interested to see the reaction if Hollis or Jackman took and missed a penalty!

Bakes and Unders - Let Jack take the next one! And keep doing the great job you are doing!

I wasn’t at the match yesterday, but would be very interested to know what the Slough fans reaction was when they realised Jack Turner was heading up to take the penalty...... were they generally pleased & supportive of it? Or was there an attitude of disbelief?

I have got to admit I would have been in the latter category, because in all the years I have watched football I don’t recall ever seeing a goalkeeper stepping up to take a penalty in open play. Although I have heard of a handful of South American goalkeepers taking penalties & free kicks.

So in that context, it was a unique & monumental decision by our Managers, which if Jack had scored would probably have been considered to be an inspired decision, but because he didn’t looks flawed...... thankfully Weymouth didn’t score from the outcome or it would likely have gone viral on social media.

Agree totally with what you say RB.

This is a personal message to Bakes and Unders.

Yesterday was the first game this season my 93 year old father and myself didn't go to for obvious reasons. My father having seen the rebels close on 5000 times was very disappointed but still listened to the match on the radio.

With everything going on in the world today a penalty miss is not that important.

I have mentioned this before but the job the 2 of you have done since being at the club has been nothing but remarkable and given us so much pleasure to everyone.

Whatever happens for the rest of season we both look forward to watching the rebels again and the outstanding work that you,the team and everyone involved with club do for us.

Many thanks again
