Everyone has different views on the corona virus. My situation is I have parents aged 88 and 89. I limit myself to shops only  even that is a big risk.God forbid if I passed thee virus on to them I could not live with myself.

My point is we all live in different situations Ade at the end of the match commentary today touched a nerve when he said keep safe

I pray to god  us older ones and our cherished ones get through this

like to echo Ade words keep safe

Whilst I appreciate that the corona virus threat has to be treated seriously, I was also pleased that the Northern Premier League allowed today's matches to take place as I begin my FCUoM Triple football tour at Mariners Park for South Shields v FCUoM. The league board are reviewing future matches on Monday so the matches at Broadhurst Park against Whitby Town on Tuesday and Stalybridge Celtic next Saturday might not take place during my stay in Manchester. It would be really disappointing if I had to spend St.Patrick's night drinking instead of going to football!

Only one match of my tour took place but what a match it was, played in an absolutely incredible atmosphere. South Shields 5 FC United of Manchester 3 before a record Mariners Park crowd for a league match of 3, 274 ... in the step below Slough Town!

I unsuccessfully tried to include the match highlights video in this post. For those of you interested who have eighteen minutes spare to watch them, you can find them on youtube.

I should be able to enjoy this weekend as the East Lancashire Railway has announced that it is running it's timetabled and dining trains and all its cafes and bars will be open. Most preserved railways have announced closure until the end of May at the earliest.

Are you sure it's 'cafes and bars' will be open?

My post was made shortly before the announcement by the Prime Minister at 5.10 pm. Following that, the railway announced that it would be closed this weekend.

At 6.45 pm I walked into Bury and was surprised to see how busy the bars were. As I approached the very large restaurant pub Wyldes, a police van drew up and numerous police got out of it and entered various doors and spoke to the external smokers. A couple of chaps in the street videoing the scene and myself assumed that the police were enforcing the shutdown but it turned out that it was a particular person who they were after.

The East Lancashire Railway were running a Friday evening dining train departing Bolton Street at 7.30 pm. They decided to cancel it after the announcement but The Trackside bar remained open for the evening. Quite a few of the intended diners were in the bar and said that they received an email advising them of the cancellation at 6.22 pm. All beer was reduced to £2 a pint and payment could only he made by debit or credit card. There was not much social distancing in the bar once this news had got around! I had five pints and two more in The Thirsty Fish which was also busy but charging normal prices and accepting cash. As I walked back to The Premier Inn I noticed that all the bars were very busy. People were making the most of the last day of pubs being open and delaying their
social distancing until Saturday.

No football in this post ... as there is no football. But football was the reason why I am here!!!

I have pondered once or twice, why the name ‘Shredding Green’?

Then yesterday I had to drop my car in for an MOT at the Kwik Fit in Iver by the Red Lion  (previously The Gurkha) roundabout (at the end of Mansion Lane) and took a stroll up the road while waiting, only to come across a sign that read Shredding Green Farm, and then realised the address of the Kwik Fit was also Shredding Green, Iver.

I grew up in Langley, went to school in Langley, moved away, and subsequently moved back again for several years, and in all those years never knew there was a place locally called Shredding Green..... is it just me that has been so unobservant? Does everybody else refer to that area as Shredding Green?

It has lost it's identity since the massive build up of traffic during the last thirty years. But the new route 459 bus timetable shows four stops as Shreding Green which is the spelling on the Wikipedia page (read all about Shreding Green there) although the farm has a double d in its name.

Interesting point made by the Woking manager about players in non league who are on contracts which expire at the end of the current season.

At Woking, and I would presume at a lot of other clubs, those players will still be getting paid and if this season re-starts after their contracts expire those players will be expected to play for nothing otherwise he would not want them at the club.

I would like to think this is a given for any player still being paid during this crisis.

If your contract expires on a certain date, say 30th. May, you have no legal obligation  to play after that date, whether the season has finished or not. If you have

been paid during the non-playing prior to 30th. May the club would have to start proceeding claim the money back on the grounds of non delivery of service.

You're obviously right WR.

I suppose Alan Dowson is talking more about morals/principles rather than what's right by law.

In the current climate if Woking pays a players wages in full then he expects something back in return otherwise he doesn't want that player at his club.
