Coronavirus - SSML

I see that controversial Boreham Wood Chairman Danny Hunter has voiced his opinion on the ending of the National League campaign and he also spoke on BBC Three Counties Radio yesterday if anybody heard it, he is quoted as saying 'I don't think we will be playing non-league football any time this year':

Surprise surprise folks, Boreham Wood's controversial Chairman Danny Hunter has been at it again, you have to wonder whether it is all about self publicity which, if so, is appalling in the current climate. It is alright for Mr Hunter as he has the cushion of Arsenal's money to fall back on due to the hugely lucrative ten year deal struck with the Gunners in 2017 for their ladies team and youth teams to use Meadow Park, as stated previously that must be worth an absolute fortune to the Club and, in addition, Boreham Wood also received a huge grant from the Premier League:

Not SSML but an interesting insight to how footy will be played in the near future and maybe longer.

No fans in the stadium, no spitting allowed on the pitch and substitutes wearing masks.

Savagebee - Thanks for that, interesting:

THE GOVERNMENT has given the Premier League the green light to resume behind closed doors from June 1.

Cultural and sporting events will be allowed to take place without fans to avoid the risk of large-scale social contact but they will be broadcast.

Premier League chiefs are meeting today to discuss how to proceed.

Although the decision on whether to resume the campaign on June 12 will not be subject to a formal vote today.

Clubs remain split over the details of 'Project Restart' but those in favour of a swift return will have been buoyed by today's Government guidelines.

Despite the increased likelihood of televised football, match-going fans could wait more than a year before being allowed back in to stadiums to watch their team.

PM Boris Johnson and his Government believe it is unlikely to be safe to stage events with crowds until a Covid-19 vaccine is found.

They will not even consider it until September at the earliest — and that could be extended even further if no cure or preventative measure is discovered.

This will be crushing news for football clubs who will have to prepare for at least half of next season behind closed doors.

And it will mean certain closure for some teams who will be unable to continue.

Professor Chris Whitty, the Government’s Chief Medical Officer, warned on April 22 that chances of having a vaccine within a calendar year were “incredibly small”.

However, the return of football to our TV screens will provide a huge financial boost to Premier League clubs who were set to lose a significant percentage of the £760million they have already been paid by broadcasters for the final quarter of this season.

But cash-strapped firms including Sky and BT warned the next TV deal will suffer as a result of coronavirus and Prem club chiefs are now facing a crippling loss of up to £1.5BILLION.

Savagebee - Thanks, I don't know anybody who takes London Mayor Sadiq Khan seriously:

It remains ‘too early’ to contemplate the return of Premier League football in the capital, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said.

Following the Government announcement that sport may be able to return behind closed doors in June, the Premier League are continuing discussions over ‘Project Restart’ with a resumption date no earlier than June 12 being kept in mind.

Finishing the 2019/20 campaign at neutral venues is one key proposal being discussed, but Khan has come out against the idea of playing matches in London at this stage, given the city has been badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

His spokesperson told the Evening Standard: “Sadiq is extremely keen for the Premier League and professional sport in general to resume. However, with the country still in the grips of this crisis, and hundreds of people dying every day, he believes that it is too early to be discussing the resumption of the Premier League and top-flight sport in the capital.

As a Liverpool fan, Sadiq of course wants the Premier League to return, but it can only happen when it is safe to do so, and it cannot place any extra burden on the NHS and emergency services.”

League chief Masters said the matter was still a live topic among clubs.

“I think everybody would prefer to play home and away if at all possible,” he said on Monday.

“And I think it’s clear to see that some clubs feel more strongly about that than others.

It is an ongoing dialogue and obviously since COVID-19 became an issue we’ve been talking to the authorities about the conditions in which we could get the Premier League back up and running and taking all that advice on board.”

He said a number of clubs had expressed the view that their existing relationship with supporters meant it may be easier to police them locally rather than if the game was played at a neutral site.

“I think some of our clubs would argue that in relation to policing their own fans that they have a good relationship with them, and that they encourage their own fans not to turn up outside their home venues while they’re playing behind closed doors, and they’re in a better position to control that, but it’s not a matter of convincing [the Government and the police], this has to be a decision that’s come to mutually.”

It is understood eight to 10 ‘approved’ venues had been put to the clubs as the only safe way to complete the season.

Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts of South Yorkshire Police, the UK’s national football policing lead, had told clubs debating the fairness of neutral venues to ‘get a grip’ in a situation where thousands of people have died.

Savagebee - Yes, everybody knows that Khan is an absolute joke and not fit for purpose as London Mayor, his biggest mistake was making an enemy of Donald Trump from day one, I'm not Trump's biggest fan either but that's the last thing Khan should have done. Also what has he done about the knife crime epidemic that has been going on for years with so many youngsters dying on our streets, pretty much on a daily basis.

Yeah I won't be sad or miss Mr Khan when he goes that's for sure.

Savagebee - It's absolute madness isn't it:

Tackling will be banned, pitches disinfected and players restricted to groups of five when the Premier League starts a first phase of team training.

Official protocols sent to players and managers on Tuesday and obtained by the BBC reveal that social distancing must be "strictly observed".

Corner-flags, balls, cones, goalposts and even playing surfaces will be disinfected after each session.

League bosses hope training can begin on Monday, restricted to 75 minutes.

Ongoing surveillance measures included in further guidance include twice-weekly testing, and a daily pre-training questionnaire and temperature check.

Under a section titled 'health screening', players are also told a central register of Covid-19 test results (subject to their consent and Professional Footballers' Association agreement) will need to be maintained.

Recommended "control measures" include "meticulous personal hygiene and use of PPE [personal protective equipment], no congregation in communal areas, including but not limited to medical rooms and gym areas".

Under further stringent rules, players are told they cannot share transport with anyone to and from the training ground, and vehicle interiors should be cleaned regularly. Team vehicles and public transport should not be used.

Players are being consulted on proposed medical protocols for a return to training by the PFA. They have been given a condensed version of a 40-page document for them to digest.

The BBC understands the PFA has heard from a number of players, especially those who have underlying health conditions like asthma or who are from black and minority ethnic (Bame) backgrounds, that they have real concerns about returning to playing.

Black men and women are nearly twice as likely to die with coronavirus as white people in England and Wales, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The draft protocols refer to "additional risk assessment and precautions required for players at increased risk (co-morbidity)".

On Wednesday, there will be a meeting between players, the Premier League, medical staff and the PFA.

Government approval will need to be granted before teams can continue to the next stage of training, when contact would be permitted.

Yep if footy can't be played like footy should be played then there isn't much point in playing it.

It's all becoming a farce.

All school children to be tested for COVID on their return.

HMG can't even test enough people like myself (approaching 73), now, let alone hordes of kids returning to school.
