Some significant games too from the 89/90 season.

FA Trophy at Stroud (https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/3543) and a little game at the end of the season against Bromley (https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/3577)

Hope they bring back some fond memories for those who were following at the time.

Thanks Gary for the effort needed to make these trips down memory lane possible  I remember both games I believe 89/90 was the first season (of 2or3) when Forest Green Rovers called themselves Stroud FC  which proved very unpopular and didnt last

Been working through some old paperwork and have added some reports from the wartime as well

Reports From 1944:
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1320 - 1-1 draw against Hitchin
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1318 - 4-2 win against Wood Green
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1317 - 4-1 win against Southall on Christmas Day 1944
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1316 - 1-1 draw against Golders Green
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1310 - 2-1 loss against Reading 'A'
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1309 - 2-1 win over Clapton
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1307 - 3-3 draw against Grays
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1305 - 3-2 win against Leyton
https://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/1303 - 3-1 win against top of the table Finchley

Got a further 17 to add over the coming days from that era too - will add them in here once they're online. Also included a team photo from what I believe will be the mid-late 1940's.

I'd love to find paper cuttings / reports of our Championship win at Bromley.

I know I have mentioned it in the past, but that day as a Slough fan will always live with me (especially the fancy dress).

I wish I kept the following weeks edition of the Slough Observer :(

I have those cuttings somewhere. As I'm confined to barracks like many others I'll see if I can look them out (probably in the loft).

I was there at Stroud that day. I remember going with my Dad and Cousin. I was 11. It was a cold / wet / dark day.

I looked Stroud up the other week funnily enough and unless I read it wrong, they are now Forest Green?

They always were Forest Green Rovers apart from a few seasons when either the league they were in at the time (Southern I think) insisted all member clubs had to have a geographic location in their name, despite Forest Green being a place. Forest Green is the name of the very small area at the top of the hill they are on. Nailsworth being the small town at the bottom. Back in the late 70's Forest Green were rivals to Burnham in both the Hellenic and FA Vase. My knowledge is supported by having watched Burnham as a kid, lived in Gore Road, and my cousin living in Windsor Edge, the small area half way up the hill from Nailsworth...

So, were Stroud a different club totally to Forest Green Rovers? (even if for a few seasons)?

From what Ive seen online, no such club called Stroud now, but it keeps bringing up FGR.

No exactly the same club. Formed as FGR, called Stroud Town (?) for a few seasons before reverting to FGR. When played as Stroud, there was not a team going by FGR. Same club, directors, ground, fans, just different name for couple of seasons.

I have still got the same newspaper with the matchday programme in the loft. Remember driving back home and then walking back to Wexham Park for a long night of celebrations and the odd drink. Mark Bevan went home and brought back a copy of Queen's We are the Champions for the DJ to play, a great night:31:

My nephew got Steve Thompson's match shirt that day. Will have to ask him, if he still has it? I remember Neal Stanley's goal like it was yesterday, and celebrating like mad then and at the final whistle but I don't remember much about the game, apart from it being nervy and tight. That's what real ale does for the grey matter !

It was mental behind the goal when we scored. All on the pitch at the end, a hint of trouble because we'd relegated Bromley.

I do remember singing along to Queen back at the club - it was a boiling hot day.  Celebrated (wearing the hooped shirt) in Slough town centre that night!

Love the home kit that season we won it.

i remember being on the pitch at full time.

I am sure the hooped conference kit was the first season we (as fans) were able to buy a replica shirt?

also, Looking back at the pics, I didn’t realise we released the hooped kit before the season had finished.

loving the paper clippings

was It our championship season Tommy Langley played for us?
