Division One

Stotfold 4 Buckingham Athletic 1

An anorak from another Forum was at the New Roker Park last night:

Stotfold 4 Buckingham Athletic 1
Spartan South Mids Div 1, Att 85
Admission £6 Programme, nicely produced but little content in the 24 pages for a £1

First 2 choices fell by the wayside so it was off to the ’New Roker Park’ home of Stotfold FC and we were treated with an entertaining game in the freezing cold.
It was 36 minutes before the deadlock was broken, a home striker rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home, although the hosts had struck the metalwork three times beforehand. Early in the second half a long ball over the top caught the visiting defence out and as the striker was in on goal he was dragged to the ground for a stonewall penalty and a red card. The penalty was dispatched, but only after the keeper got a touch. Shortly after it became three with a tidy finish from close range after a couple of blocked attempts and you had to fear for Buckingham. To their credit they, and their hosts tried to play football on the deck all evening. Stotfold added a fourth with a good finish from about ten yards before Buckingham pulled one back with a penalty after a foul following a cross. This led to a home defender being sin binned for dissent, and the said player receiving an earful from his manager as he left the pitch.
Enjoyable contest where both teams played their part. I was particularly impressed with the visitors bench who conducted themselves impeccably throughout. A couple of decisions were queried but they done so in a dignified way when the ball was dead and the referees explanations accepted. Clubs in the SCEFL could take note.
The ground is functional and typical new build but serves a purpose for Stotfolds needs and there is significant scope to develop if required. The clubhouse was very impressive and a nice touch was the screen welcoming their visitors above the door as you enter. Decent evening out, albeit a cold one.

Premier Division

Wembley 0 Leighton Town 3

No problems whatsoever for Leighton Town last night even without the great man Danny Webb who was rested before Saturday's FA Vase Sixth Round encounter at Corinthian. Ashton Campbell netted on 43 minutes and made it 2-0 on 55 minutes when clinically putting the ball away following great work by Kieran Turner. Substitute and man mountain Brian Foulger made it 3-0 on 78 minutes with a header from a corner to hammer a final nail into beleaguered Wembley's coffin, Leighton Town could have quite easily added two more goals before the end of the proceedings but lets hope they carry on from where they left off at 3.00pm on Saturday:

A match report:

Wembley 0 - 3 Leighton Town

A month on from a 0-0 draw between the 2 sides, Town travelled to Vale Farm and came back with a vital 3 points, with a convincing 3-0 win over Wembley.
With another trip to Wembley just 2 rounds away for Town, they headed to North London in fantastic form.
Sweeney and Copson made 6 changes to the side that beat Baldock on Saturday and they got underway quickly.
Ashton Campbell’s low drive was saved well by the keeper and Turner fired the rebound wide. A good early chance.
Kieran Turner had 2 more good chances inside the first 20 minutes, but he couldn’t find the back of the net.
Dave Murphy was also involved in the action, however his was a yellow card from the referee.
Town continued to dominate, with low crosses and good passing moves evading Town forwards.
Wembley’s Centre Half entered the book on the 29th minute for a shocker of a foul on Fredericks.
Bryant and Collier had free kicks blocked and Fredericks headed wide as the first half ticked on.
Town were forced into a change when Sonny Newbury-Barr picked up a slight knock. Brian Foulger came on in his place.
Just before the break though, Town did manage to find the breakthrough! Ashton Campbell drove into the box from the left hand side and fired brilliantly underneath the keeper, to make it 0-1.
The second half saw a Town Change early on. Dave Murphy being replaced by Tom Silford.
10 minutes into the second period and Town made it 2! Turner won the ball brilliantly from a loose Wembley pass and sent Campbell clear. The latter finished with aplomb past the keeper, to get his second and Town’s second.
With Town cruising at 2-0, Campbell and Collier both had opportunities to make it 3. However, they were dealt with by the Wembley rearguard.
U18's goalkeeper, George Waters, had kept his place in the side and was finally called into action when he had to make a low save.
Captain Jordon Fredericks was replaced just after the hour by Luke Pyman, who slotted in well in the centre of the park.
Ashton Campbell was played clean through on goal on the 77th minute after Collier’s fantastic pass, but Campbell’s effort was saved!
From the resulting corner though, Town sealed the deal. A big looping header on the stretch from Brian Foulger, saw Town go 3 ahead.
Campbell had another big chance to make it 4 and claim his hat-trick but it was saved and Turner had an effort saved late on.
Another good 3 points for the Town, this time on the road. Wembley never threatened Town, but an overall good team performances, with the likes of Alex Condon slotting in and playing brilliantly.
Next up... it’s the big one. The FA Vase Quarter Final at Corinthian...See you there.
