Couldn't make today so I listened to the game on our superb rebels radio, unfortunately the wind noise spoilt a lot of the sound quality.

After coming back from a goal down and despite possibly (according to rebels radio) having the better chances in the second half, my initial thoughts are that it was a point gained rather than two points dropped.

Adrian also commented that before this season Ryan Bird had never before played in defence.

I stand to be corrected but I thought Birdy started his footballing career as a center half?

I have to say, from my memory, Birdy has always been a better centre half than an centre forward, that's my opinion anyway!

That’s odd as he’s played the vast majority of his career as a forward? I’ve not seen him play much obviously but going by his stats only surely he’s better as a striker otherwise he wouldn’t have played league football? It’s a shame it’s not worked out (yet...?!) as a forward as that’s the reason he was signed but he’s played well as CB and it’s allowed Sam to play his natural/preferred position.

Hi CR, I can't agree with you here, as he was bloody good up front for Burnham and for a professional club to sign him as a forward shows he had something about him.

Agree, though, he suits a centre back now, than he does a centre forward and just doesn't look comfortable playing up front. Great shame really,as he was a handful once upon a time up front but hey ho, that's a mixture of his injury toll and confidence I suppose. Still, I think he's been good at the back for Slough so far, and his height gives the team another dimension, and the fact he can pop up with the odd goal from aerial crosses is no bad thing either. In my eyes, clever management from our lads at the top, to get something from Birdy rather than just release him as a flop forward signing.

Each to their own. I like Sam Togwell in the team whatever position our managers put him in. As I said previously Jack Turner, Matt Lench and Sam are the first names on the team sheet for me currently. I can see the rhetoric of putting Sam into midfield at the moment, given the options we have in centre defence and that it seemed the right move to add some much needed steel into midfield, when Bakes and Unders took the decision to place Sam in there, similar to the move we made a few seasons ago when we bought Declan Benjamin on loan into our centre midfield for a few games.

As you say, RR, older players from midfield and the forward line can end their careers playing in the back line,if they are good enough and intelligent enough.

Can you [or others] name the ex Slough player from the last 10 years that went from playing centre back to playing centre midfield in his twilight of his career, testament to how fit he was?

Dave Woozley?

No it wasn't him.

Did Paul Edgeworth start at the back?

Couldn't of been Leigh Rumbold because he was a midfielder.

What about Graeme Edwards or Steve Perkins.

None of those match the one I'm thinking of.

Steve Perkins is the only one I can think of

He was a central midfielder that became a centre half. Not a centre half that became a centre midfielder.

I'll give you all a clue. He played under Steve Bateman's reign.

The only others I can think of are Adam Logie and Chris Seeby.

Adam Logie was the correct answer. He went into centre midfield when he was with Wealdstone, before joining Slough.

One of a few players I would have liked Bakes and Unders to have kept when they joined the club but it wasn't to be.

Sorry 3spirit, when you said a player in the twilight of his career, I assumed a player in his mid to late 30s.

Logie signed for us when he was 26, that's more like the prime of his career.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, CR, just not been online. I must admit I thought Adam Logie was older but perhaps that was because he had so much experience with different clubs before he ever got to Slough. He must have been 28 -29 in his final season with Slough and was suffering from injury problems a lot. He never quite made the impact in his latter seasons for Slough,as he did in his first season for Slough, when he looked a class box to box midfielder, who would score goals with well struck shots. I liked him as I thought he was an honest player, and a good team player. Unfortunately for him, like many a player, injuries put paid to his best days.
