Also helps that Weymouth drew and Dorking lost  On to H&W and their poor home record just 6 wins from 15   H&Ws last six league games have produced  one win one loss and four draws three of them goalless  !

Couldn't make today so I listened to the game on our superb rebels radio, unfortunately the wind noise spoilt a lot of the sound quality.

After coming back from a goal down and despite possibly (according to rebels radio) having the better chances in the second half, my initial thoughts are that it was a point gained rather than two points dropped.

Adrian also commented that before this season Ryan Bird had never before played in defence.

I stand to be corrected but I thought Birdy started his footballing career as a center half?

RR  According to several web sites he started out as a central defender

It wasn't a very good game, the conditions dictated the quality (high wind, bobbly, but well grassed and drained pitch) First visit to Chelmsford's ground and not impressed! Spectator viewing is miles from the pitch, but no danger of losing the ball from wayward shots!

We shaded it definitely, but happy with the point. Thought their 16 year old right back Danny Imray was decent, but Leroy Lita was largely anonymous.

Yes, by all accounts Danny Imray had a good game.

Looking at his profile he has come through the youth ranks at Chelmsford as a left winger/number 10 and has somehow ended up at right back.

Actually I said Sam Togwell had never played in centre back before coming here, blame the wind

I'm amazed with that as he looks so good there and if anything I prefer him as a centre back. Not unusual for a centre midfielder to become a centre half later in his career, though, quite a few have made that move. I think we are extremely fortunate to have come by Sam's services, as he is one of the main factors that Slough have had so much success in the Conference South.

I haven't seen as many games this season as I would like but the ones I have seen Sam and Matt Lench look like they are vying for Player Of The Season in my book. Couple of others not far behind but the fact is, if we were to lose these two and Jack Turner I don't see Slough being as high up the table without them.

Sometimes as players get older and they lose a bit of their running legs they do tend to drop back into defence and with Sam's experience and know how I'm certainly not surprised that he's looked so good.

Not sure we look better with Sam in the back line. I think many would say we look better with him playing in front of the back line.

Not known as the 'gulag' for nothing.

Each to their own. I like Sam Togwell in the team whatever position our managers put him in. As I said previously Jack Turner, Matt Lench and Sam are the first names on the team sheet for me currently. I can see the rhetoric of putting Sam into midfield at the moment, given the options we have in centre defence and that it seemed the right move to add some much needed steel into midfield, when Bakes and Unders took the decision to place Sam in there, similar to the move we made a few seasons ago when we bought Declan Benjamin on loan into our centre midfield for a few games.

As you say, RR, older players from midfield and the forward line can end their careers playing in the back line,if they are good enough and intelligent enough.

Can you [or others] name the ex Slough player from the last 10 years that went from playing centre back to playing centre midfield in his twilight of his career, testament to how fit he was?
