Premier Division

Leighton Town 3 Tring Athletic 2

A great game at Bell Close last night with a young Tring Athletic side certainly making a fist of things and taking a 2-0 interval lead on 35 and 45 minutes before slowly being pegged back during the course of the second period, first by Danny Webb, who else, on 61 minutes, Webb again on 66 minutes and Archie McClelland on 70 minutes, the attendance was 203. Here's the match programme:

Division One
Park View 2 Milton Keynes Robins 1

Quite a few old fashioned anoraks from another Forum were at this one last night:

Park View 2-1 MK Robins
Spartan South Midlands 1st Division

A friendly welcome from the manager, but a delayed start means it's touch and go if I can get the last direct bus. Currently on the train at Paddington. One large stand with sufficient elevation to give a decent view despite the athletics track. Uncovered terracing over the far side. A circumnavigation was stopped after finding the path round under water.

MK had more of the ball, but Park View were better in front of goal. Not much between the sides and hard to see which one was looking at promotion and which will be haopy to stay up. Strikes in each half saw the hosts take a 2-0 lead, before a late consolation for the visitors shortly after a good chance was sqaundered.

Park View 2-1 MK Robins
Spartan South Midlands 1st Division

I was also here - to add to the detail, £5 admission includes a programme, although it would be possible to view for free if you avoided the programme sellers. Spartan South Midland on full time gives attendance at 20, which seems about right.

The ground provides many facilities for the locals, with at least two sports rooms under the stand and a commercial gym, plus a number of other floodlit pitches (mainly small size, but at least one other in full size) hidden behind and next to the main stadium. With the impressive amount of terracing, this would be interesting if ever there was a big crowd - but it feels a little soulless with just 20 people there. A good portion of them seem to be the older London hopper variety (a category which may include myself), so it was good to catch up with them.

Park View are struggling close to the bottom of the table, while MK Robins, the former Buckingham Town are just a little short of the running for promotion. Nothing on the pitch suggested this and it was an even game. Both sides had a tendancy to over run the ball, allowing defences to cover, but two long range shots on 36 mins (Tolley) and 65 (Mensah) put the homesters into a commanding lead. With a change in the MK goal at half time, an outfield player (Beau-Pierre) taking over the gloves, one would have thought that Park View should have tried to test him more, but he only had to make one save, apart from the goal - which was a better shot than the one that had beaten the regular keeper in the first half. Robins pulled one back in the final minute (Clarkson) but a determined effort in injury time could not give them a point.

For travel, I used my Oyster and Wood Green underground station. Going out, there are a few Spurs fans around here and there is a shuttle bus to the stadium. I noticed that the controlled street parking close to the New River Stadium allows free parking while Tottenham games are playing, but I am not sure how long it takes to walk. I was told that a little further down White Hart Lane, at Haringey Borough, they charge more to park your car for Spurs games than to enter for their own matches. How this works when both clubs play 15.00 on Saturday was not mentioned. Guess it does not happen very often.

On the way back, I noticed Spurs fans who had managed to reach Waterloo for the 22.50 train, that must require a very sharp getaway from a 20.00 kick off and I wonder how much of the game they watched.
